Final Fantasy XIII new scans from V-Jump & in-game screenshot(?)

This is a thread for all things Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Post your opinions, suggestions and information on the game, and any links ot sources of info, which I can post at the top of this thread for people looking for a quick source of info.

The games look amazing, the graphics and animations. I hope they include pretty much all of the summons from the previous games, but they will probably function unlike the one action summons a la Final Fantasy VII,as Shiva can act as a motorbike, which the developers hinted at the ability to use it in combats.

FF13 - Story
Built by a great entity, it is a society floating in the sky,
enclosed in a 'shell' - Cocoon. It flourishes, protected by the
great machines and living creatures invented by the Crystal.
The inhabitants of Cocoon, in a long period of tranquility,
fear infection from the outside. Outside the shell, an underworld
Pulse's entity awakens, fearing the faceless invader, people
begin to suspect one another, and hatred takes root.
Cocoons government, wishing for stability, takes emergency measures.
They arrested large numbers of citizens who were suspected of 'being
infected by the outside' and announced that they would be compelled to
migrate to the underworld, Pulse. In reality, it meant banishment, but
the fate which awaited them was even more cruel than that.
The crystal, a symbol of harmony, chose a person to whom entrust destiny
and lead the world. She was chosen. As the enemy of mankind which ruins the world.

Summons
Ifrit. This giant clad in raging flames is Ifrit .While he would be a heartening
ally to have, if he turns out to be an enemy, he would be a formidable one. We'll
have to wait and see which one he is.
Siren. Suddenly appearing on the waters surface, she charms people while playing a
harp and singing in a beautiful voice. There is no one who can resist Siren's magic.
She appears to be summonable.
Carbuncle. Discs rain down from a mysterious floating object. The 'Pulse' girl (pigtails)
catches one in her hand instinctively, and light begins to shine forth from
the disk. An adorable creature appears!
Shiva. In this edition, it seems that the Shiva among the summonable entities makes an
appearance as a vehicle. Are other introduced ones also ridable? We'll have to use our
imagination for now. The two Shiva sisters combine to become a bike which carries people
over ice!

FFV13
Grasping the Key to the Legends? The blonde haired woman who faces off against
the protagonist. A lone person pauses on the rode between giant building, a beautiful girl.
The black clothed man appears (prince guy) and her profile is sharp eyed and inaccessible
she wields a weapon. Are the two mutual enemies?! Or..
The several apparent companions with the black clothed man lined up. The man
in the middle (shotgun guy) appears to be on good terms with the black clothed man. Shotgun
guy is a cheerful looking young guy. He appears to have rode in the car with the protagonist.

FF13: An excerpt from an article in this week's magazine: 'Thoughts determined, times have matured."

- Nomura: "2008 will be the year. There will be tons of news bits, info on characters and summons, and an unexpected connection between the keywords Cocoon and Farushi.
- We're aiming for a demo to give players a hands on on the battle system.
- FF13's theme: determination.
- Farushi: Their existence surpasses humans.
- Rushi: Those chosen by Farushi to carry out a mission. The pigtail girl is a Rushi. Farushi is not the Crystal.
- Mr. 33cm is also a Rushi.
- This time summons are in digital form.
- A new monster that looks like a cross between a turtle and elephant.
- The red thing on Carbuncle's head is a ruby.
- Hint on release date: "I wonder when we'll be able to sleep..."

When developer SquareSoft was struggling to make an impression on the world back in 1987 while bills mounted up and the world was in the grip of Mario fever, it looked like there was little option but to wave the white flag. Legend has it, they were on the brink of closing and sending everyone home. Then they released one final game - prophetically called Final Fantasy - and held their breath. The game proved to be a smash success and the rest, as they say, is history. Some 20 years later, the Final Fantasy factory is still pumping out the hits and if Final Fantasy XIII is anything to go by, Square Enix is still a visionary developer to be reckoned with.

Final Fantasy XIII on PS3 is essentially one part of the ‘Fabula Nova Crystallis’ project, which will contain at least six games bearing the Final Fantasy XIII name. Final Fantasy XIII will be the main anchor for the project, but expect the name to be bolstered by additional FFXIII-based titles on PSP and mobile, at the very least.
As for the game itself, it’s based around two worlds - Cocoon and Pulse. Cocoon is a floating utopia defended by advanced technology while Pulse lies below it, serving as the place where those cast out of Cocoon are sent.

The Cocoon's government is using crystals with the power to change Man’s destiny to force those on Pulse to work against their will. In turn, the citizens of Pulse are rebelling. Their force is led by the only confirmed character so far, a feisty woman who goes by the codename of ‘Lightning.’ Apparently, the player won’t know if he’s on Lightning’s side or not until a certain point in the game. One new feature to help develop the story will be a ‘split-screen’ of sorts, showing different characters in different locations on screen at the same time.

Gameplay wise, the real-time battle system introduced for Final Fantasy XII will be kept on, but the pace will be kicked up a few notches. Yet again, you’ll be able to see your enemies on screen, so the dreaded random encounters of previous games won’t be returning.

Square Enix hasn’t revealed anything else yet and given that there isn’t even a confirmed release date, that’s no surprise. Square Enix’s John Yamamoto is said to be aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release, so keep your fingers crossed.
The story, as per usual, sounds totally bonkers, but that's what we've come to expect from the Square Enix crew over the years, so be ready for plenty of head scratching moments once the game eventually hits shelves. And we wouldn't be surprised at all if someone out there announces a brand new Final Fantasy movie off the back of this one.

Square's promise: FFXIII to be released in 2008

Promises, promises. They seem to always be said and most of the time broken, especially in the gaming business. Hearts can be broken, and tears might be shed -- especially for you GTA and MGS fans. When a developer drops a release date on our heads, that a big gutsy move, something us gamers don't take too much truth to.Here comes Square-Enix announcing a 2008 release date for FF13. No date, just the year, which is plenty enough for us eager FF fans. But how much truth is really behind this, because I don't want to have my heart broken or tears run down my face. According to Joystiq Mr. Testuya Nomura, character designer for FFXIII says that "the long wait for the Fabula Nova Crystallis collection will be over soon enough. Not only does he swear by the game's 2008 release date, he teases at a playable demo for FFXIII on the PlayStation Network a while before the game is released, to show off the game's revamped battle system."
So absolutely no date tied into this announcement, but to tell you the truth a December 31st, 2008 date would be fine by me. Knowing Square-Enix's track record, I would've thought the game would come out Fall 09, but hey that is still very possbile. I'm glad SE made this bold statement but I'm not taking it to heart. A release of a new Final Fantasy game is like a football fan's dream of going to the Superbowl for 60 bucks, front row, mid-field. So a broken promise would be you going to the Superbowl and at the ticket gate you get kicked out because the ticket you received was a fake, and then you spend the whole game underground in the stadium prison. "There's always next year," you say to yourself as you rock back and forth on the cold, metal bed.
Don't think I'll forget this promise, Nomura!
