New Lara Croft game on the way
Crystal Dynamics has announced that Lara Croft is set to return in a digitally downloadable adventure.
As revealed on the Eidos forums, it's titled Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. That's right, there's no mention of the words Tomb or Raider in the title - perhaps because this marks a departure for the series.
"This is a really exciting project for Crystal Dynamics, we have created something completely new and very different to what people might be expecting," said studio manager Darrell Gallagher.
"Lara Croft is such an iconic character in videogames, with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light we have created what we believe is a truly original digital experience."
A website for the game has already been set up. There's not much to see, mind, just the opportunity to sign up for the newsletter.
The game is down for a release later this year, with platforms yet to be announced.
More evidence of three new CODs
Analysts have given us more reason to believe suspicions that yesterday's Call of Duty reshuffle announcement was heralding three new games in the blockbuster series and not just two.
GameSpot reports that analysts have interpreted the ambiguous release wording or received other information to the effect that the 2011 Call of Duty and Sledgehammer Games' new action-adventure are separate titles.
The wording of the release, which had already noted that Treyarch is making a Call of Duty game due out in 2010, was: "The company is also for the first time announcing that a new game in the Call of Duty series is expected to be released in 2011 and that Sledgehammer Games, a newly formed, wholly owned studio, is in development on a Call of Duty game that will extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre."
Some took that to mean the 2011 game and Sledgehammer's project were one and the same, but others were less certain.
Activision also spoke about its ambition to take COD to new markets, including Asia, and experiment with "high-margin digital online content", "new genres" and "new digital business models". A download-only spectroscopic 3D kart racer, then.

Arkham Asylum GOTY with 3D option
Square Enix has announced plans to release a special Game of the Year Edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum this month, complete with a 3D viewing option that works on regular TVs.
The GOTY Edition is due out on 26th March for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. All three versions get the six extra DLC challenge maps on disc, while the console versions include "TriOviz 3D" support.
"TriOviz 3D is a patented 3D process which adds depth to the game, visible to players wearing the included 3D glasses.
"By leveraging the depth-of-field while maintaining the original gameplay and colour integrity, TriOviz 3D creates a far more immersive gaming experience, allowing console players to dive deeper into the gothic world of Arkham Asylum."
So now you know.
Activision Sued by Sacked 'Call of Duty' Creators (seek $36 million in royalties, damages)
: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=ayGMV2rvwh1M"Activision Blizzard Inc. was sued by the executives who created the "Call of Duty" franchise, after the video-game publisher fired them on "false" insubordination charges to avoid paying royalties, according to their complaint.
Jason West and Vince Zampella, who co-founded Activision's Infinity Ward studio, sued the company in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday, claiming breach of contract and wrongful termination. They seek at least $36 million and control over "Modern Warfare," a subset of the "Call of Duty" combat games, according to a copy of the complaint."
