Sonys Shuhei Yoshida Talks About “Millions” of PS4 Preorders, Feels Like the “Challenger” in North AmericaThe console war for the next generation is heating up and SCE Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida is quite optimistic about it, but he doesnt underestimate the competition, as he expressed in an interview on the Japanese website 4Gamer.
First of all, he mentions that the team is very optimistic, as there are “millions” of pre-orders worldwide for the PS4.
On top of that he made a couple of very interesting statements on the relationship with the competition at Microsoft when asked about the proportion of pre-orders between North America and Europe:
Its a little hard to talk about specific numerical values, but the proportion [between North America and Europe] is pretty much the same we had with the PS3. However, because of the large number of people in North America and the size of the market, I feel the market share there is a little low [compared to Europe].Its really hard not to notice the difference in attitude between Yoshida-san and western professionals in similar position. His humble demeanor is downright refreshing, and even if sometimes he wont spare a pointed joke, he always delivers it with a smile.
Im not saying that the PS4 is losing at the moment, but the Xbox 360 was very strong in North America. Thats why were working there with the mindset “we are the challengers.” I think that when you have a strong rival, its good for the market as a whole. We want to do our best so that we wont be defeated (laughs).
I cant say I wouldnt like quite a few others, on both sides of the console war trench (including gamers, why not?), to learn how to handle this kind of dialogue from good ol Shu.

PS4 still has 'triple-A exclusives' in development, Sony responds to lack of new Uncharted
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) chief Jim Ryan has responded to the lack of a new Uncharted announcement, confirming PlayStation 4 still has a number of "triple-A exclusives" in development.
Speaking to MCV in an interview this week, Ryan was quizzed whether he thought the platform holders Gamescom offering lacked a major software announcement, such as a new entry from Naughty Dog's Uncharted series.
He replied: “You are on a never-ending treadmill of these events and you have to get the balance between doing too much at one and not having enough at the next. We felt having that slightly different approach at Gamescom worked. But then you will have different days, when someone – hopefully me – will get on a stage and announce a triple-A exclusive, because those games are being made.”
The most recent entry in the God of War franchise, Ascension, was released exclusively for PS3 in March. Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception hit stores in November 11, and to date is the most recent console offering in the franchise.
PS4 is due out in North America on November 15 and hits Europe on November 29, priced $399/349.
