Call of Duty 5, Guitar Hero IV already confirmed?

By now everyone is pretty much aware of the merger between Activision and Vivendi Games. If not, then you might want to catch up on times by going here. What you may not know of, is a list of possible confirmed games from Activision Blizzard, which may not come to surprise given the supreme popularity the titles.

Appearing under the “About Activision” portion of the Activision Blizzard fact sheet includes mention of Guitar Hero IV, Call of Duty 5, James Bond, a new Tony Hawk, DreamWorks, and Marvel titles.

When asked, an Activision spokesperson declined the opportunity to comment on any of the titles listed in the fact sheet, which can be viewed here.

Stay tuned for further information as it becomes available. heres the link: http://www.psu.com/Call-of-Duty-5,-G...0002076-p0.php

Sony Renews the 100 dollar offer! PS3 for $299 a reality!

It's been awhile since I wrote anything on the gaming section due to some pretty busy schedules over the past few weeks. But I have to take some times to write about this offer of the Sony Card. Sometimes back in October, Sony has a credit card offer that will allow you to buy a PS3 for 100 dollar off or about 399 at the time. Then they took the offer down as the PS3 received its price drops in November. Now that Black Friday has past and went, Sony has renewed their offer. Here is the ad:

Eye of Marvel; PlayStation Eye playing cards on the way?

From PS3 Attitude; whilst this remains in the rumour pot, PS3 Attitude usually don't print rumours, so it looks like it could be true.

Seems Marvel are getting ready to announce a set of playing cards to interface with the PlayStation Eye via the existing Eye of Judgement title.

    More details after the jump...

Rumor: FFXIII And FF Versus XIII Trailers For PSN This Month?

We're still not sure when we'll see Final Fantasy XIII or Final Fantasy Versus XIII, primarily because we haven't the slightest idea where Square-Enix is in terms of development progress. A recent report that said they were having trouble with the White Engine turned out to be erroneous, and it seems both titles are still scheduled for late next year.

Therefore, any and all news regarding either title is big news, and brand new trailers definitely qualify as important. According to Forever-Fantasy, a Square-Enix published book, CLOUD, will soon be released in Japan. A DVD comes packaged with the book as a bonus, and this DVD boasts all new videos for both Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII! Now, these highly anticipated trailers are bound to get a ton of attention, but if they're only available on this DVD that comes out in Japan, how will we see them? Well, perhaps the trailers will go global...on the PlayStation Store. We have no evidence to suggest this will happen, but the timing would make perfect sense.

CLOUD releases on December 14, and perhaps that's about the time the trailers will hit the Store, too. If not, at least we can hope to see them uploaded to places like YouTube and GameTrailers, right? We'll keep an eye on when (and if) they pop up somewhere.

    Warner to join Blu-ray exclusively?

Posted on December 8th, 2007 at 20:31 EDT

The snowball effect for Blu-ray has been accumulating greatly since launch. Especially with the help of the Blu-ray has outsold HD-DVD by a ratio of 2:1. The Blu-ray camp has been fortunate to grab four major movie development studios to release titles exclusively on the format while HD-DVD only has 3 exclusive supports, two of whom (Paramount, Dreamworks) which is said to be forced by Microsoft to exclusively support HD-DVD because of their own agenda.

Now it looks like there could be a 5th exclusive supporter coming to Blu-ray, . whom currently supports both formats by releasing on Blu-ray and HD-DVD. That could come to an end soon, which would allow Blu-ray to hold 70% of the high-def market almost by default declaring them the winner of this battle.

“The rumor is that Warner is coming aboard soon," says Michael Burns, vice-chairman of Blu-ray supporter Lionsgate, "That will make it awfully tough for HD DVD to stay in this game."

A representative from Business Week added, "either side could (win the Warner endorsement)...but the group has suddenly emerged as the front runner."

"Persuading it (Warner) to sign an exclusive deal would give the Sony crowd about 70% of market share. That could prompt the other studios to abandon HD DVD.”

Furthermore, Business Week states that if Warner were to join HD-DVD, it would create an impasse:

“That could create mass consumer confusion and potentially strangle a new technology that the studios hope will give a lift to flagging That's exactly why Warner has long pushed for a single format,"

PS3 one ups Xbox 360 with its DivX support

We all know the Xbox 360 supports DivX nowadays. We told you it was coming, and it came. Now the PS3 is supposed to get DivX support, although Sony has better plans for the popular video format.

Last month, DivX announced that the PS3 will soon support DivX, and, this month, Gizmodo met with the company, which shared some interesting details on the big move.
First of all, unlike the Xbox 360, the PS3 is DivX certified. While Microsofts console can only playback some DivX files, the PS3 will get full DivX functionality. This includes the ability for game developers to use the very efficient compression format for in-game cut-scenes.

This means DivX video cut scenes will reduce stress on the machine, theoretically allowing for better load times, less power consumption, and less heat output.
It is unknown exactly when the firmware update will hit the PS3, but it should be “soon.” Also, if youre in the need for a DivX encoder, DivX Pro is currently free ($20 normally) for now.

    Developers Adopting PS3, Says Tretton

Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, has said that developers are starting to adopt PS3’s hardware as their base for developing multiformat titles, which are then watered down and ported to other consoles.

Speaking to IGN, Tretton claimed, "We are now starting to see developers creating games on PS3 and then porting them to other platforms, such as EA's Burnout Paradise.”

"Developers are telling us that they are starting to create their games on PS3 first and take advantage of the hardware capabilities and then port down to other platforms so we are seeing tremendous progress from the third party community in terms of what they are able to do with our development kits”, he added.

“You will see some very nice things in 2008 coming from our third party partners in addition to what you will see this holiday."

As it stands, Burnout Paradise is currently the first major title to utilize the PS3 as primary development hardware, though Call of Duty 4 has demonstrated that games developed with the Xbox 360 in mind does not necessarily result in a drop of quality for the PS3 version.

Mass Effect on PS3: "It has to" says analyst

During the latest edition of Bonus Round, notorious analyst Michael Pachter has said that BioWare games have to go multiplatform if EA is to ever recoup some of the 300 million spent buying the Canadian outfit.

When asked if Pratcher htought Mass Effect 2 would come to PS3, he replied, "It has to. I wouldn't be surprised if Mass Effect 1 came to PS3. If these guys can managed to port the game over I would think they'd do so."

Obviously that doesn't mean it's going to happen but if you cast your minds back (or check your PC's history if you didn't have to erase it as a 'precaution') to our interview with Dr. Greg Zeschuk, co-founder and president of the mighty BioWare, we did ask him about the Mass Effect trilogy being exlcusive to Xbox 360 all the way. Here's the clip:

You've already expressed your plans for Mass Effect to be a trilogy. Do you see all three games being released on Xbox 360?

    Zeschuk:
Certainly out intent is to have all three iterations or instalments of Mass Effect to be on Xbox 360. That's the goal.

Exclusively to 360 all the way?

Zeschuk: Can't really comment on that aspect yet, it's too far into the future. Thinking a year in to the future is a big challenge these days.

We should point out that the interview took place a few months before the EA buyout deal was announced. And we should also point out the nervous laughs Zeschuk emitted when asked about 360 exclusivity.

    Ferrari Challenge: Eurogamer First Impressions

    Eurogamer writes:

"One to watch, I reckon. It's out on PS3 in March. No Xbox 360 version? No. Why? A licensing issue. You'll be able to get it on PS2 and DS as well. I had a go on the DS game and it's like a mental, Ferrari-based version of Mario Kart. Blue sky thinking in racing games. Better than heavy arms any day.

Nowhere is the fact that the effort to prioritise the "Ferrari experience" more obvious than in the AI. You can clearly see opponent cars racing in a pack when you have the assist line turned off: there's no procession. PR Man reckons System 3 had plenty of early access to PS3 hardware and subsequently "there's a lot of parallel processing going on" as regards to the other cars on the track. Allegedly, the drivers that naturally lead in the game are the drivers that lead in the real series, and the fusion of tough AI and a chunky, pseudo-realistic racing model leads to the right sort of challenge. It's not frustrating and you want to succeed. First impressions suggest Ferrari Challenge is a million miles away from the motorbike/heavy arm scenario."
