- The minimum native resolution of the display (e.g. LCD, PDP, OLED) or display engine (e.g. DLP) is 3840 x 2160 in 16:9 aspect ratio.
- The minimum supported colorimetry shall be according to BT.709
- The display-device shall have at least one end-to-end signal path available to the user that does not render a UHD Input at a frame rate or resolution lower than that received over the UHD Interface from the source.
- The display-device shall have at least one end-to-end signal path available to the user that does not reduce the resolution nor shall it reduce the frame rate of a UHD Input during processing prior to display.
Do devices qualifying for the DIGITALEUROPE UHD logo require HDMI2.0 or is HDMI1.4 sufficient?
In the case of the DIGITALEUROPE UHD logo, one or several HDMI inputs shall be capable of 3840x2160p, 50 Hz or 60 Hz, 8 bits, 4:2:0.
This mode is not part of the HDMI 1.4 specifications, but only part of the HDMI2.0 specifications.
(See HDMI 1.4 specifications and HDMI 2.0 specifications
In other words, DIGITALEUROPE UHD logo qualifying devices must implement the mode 3840*2160, 8 bits, 4:2:0, 50Hz or 60Hz according to the HDMI2.0 specifications.
NOTE1: HDCP2.2 is also a mandatory requirement for the DIGITALEUROPE UHD logo.
NOTE2: Devices with DIGITALEUROPE UHD logo may support additional modes of the HDMI2.0 specifications. Please see question 21 and 22 below.
NOTE3: Following HDMI: “Effective January 1, 2012, when marketing an HDMI Product, any references to HDMI version numbers is prohibited” (see here).
21) Why does the DIGITALEUROPE Ultra HD logo not cover HDR?
HDR (High Dynamic Range) is not part of the DIGITALEUROPE Ultra HD logo, but it may be supported by display and / or source devices.
Additionally there is no single HDR solution, there are several HDR solutions, competing in the market. Depending on the media (disc, broadcast, streaming) some HDR systems may have advantage over others. The DIGITALEUROPE Ultra HD logo aims to be agnostic to the different technologies, and focus on the core interoperability rather than on multiple add-on features.
22) What about the HDR feature on the Ultra HD Blu-Ray Discs? Will this work with devices carrying the DIGITALEUROPE Ultra HD logo?
HDR is an optional feature on top of the DIGITALEUROPE Ultra HD logo technical requirements, as well as on Ultra HD Blu-Ray Discs.
Display devices and source devices such as Set-Top-Boxes or Ultra HD Blu-Ray players are designed to communicate with each other via HDMI in order that they can establish their optimal capabilities. This enables interoperability between a number of Ultra HD devices. HDR is an optional feature for Ultra HD Blu-Ray. Therefore, if all parts of the chain (disc, player, display device) support HDR and correctly communicate their capabilities to each other, content could be enjoyed with high dynamic range. Otherwise it should default to be displayed in SDR (Standard Dynamic Range). This is also in line with the Ultra HD Blu-Ray player specification

To obtain Ultra HD Premium certification from the UHD Alliance (UHDA), the Samsung 55KS7500 naturally has to meet the requisite specifications: a UHD (ultra-high definition) resolution of 38402160, 10-bit panel, HDR playback, a colour gamut coverage above 90% DCI-P3; and at least 1000 nits of peak brightness together with a black level of 0.05 nits. The KS7500 also feature a curved design, although for video enthusiasts who prefer flat screens, theres a Samsung KS7000 series whose specs are equivalent except for “Auto Depth Enhancer” specific to the bendy model.
