Rumor: New Details Emerge About Sony Santa Monicas Canceled PS4 Game Codenamed “Darkside”
Quite a while ago, in February 2014, we learned that Sony Santa Monica canceled a PS4 game, causing a sizable round of layoffs at the studio, and creating one of PlayStations best guarded mysteries. Today, industry insider Shinobi602, who is well known for having solid sources within several studios, provided some more details about it on NeoGAF, including the code name “Darkside.”
“Darkside was definitely an interesting concept. RPG mechanics, customization, vehicles, post apocalyptic open world…things just didnt come together, milestone reviews failed. Trying to get that action-melee combat working with guns wasnt easy.”
“Also had a somewhat similar UI/HUD to Dead Space.” Shinobi also mentioned that the project wasnt up to par. Unfortunately, its unlikely that well ever get to see anything of the game with our own eyes. As usual, considering that the information doesnt come from an official source (even if Shinobi basically never disappointed with his information), take this all with a grain of salt, but its certainly interesting.

Spoiler!
Yoshida, BC Ps3 ( ) revised PS4 ( )
*On PSN Name changes, Yoshida-san would like to know when the feature will be ready himself. Sony is aware that people are asking for the feature and their engineers are looking into what they can do. There will be an announcement as soon as theyll know what will be done. As of today, they dont even know if it can be done, but hopefully itll be doable.
*Sonys engineers have been working to enable friend online notifications in the future.
*Sonys first party and second party studios are developing over 30 games, maybe even 40 or 50 (at the end, though, he ended with “I have no idea” so the numbers are probably even more vague than they sound).
*Yoshida-san gave a clear cut answer on the fact that PS4 wont have backwards compatibility with PS3 (literally, the answer was “no” on whether its going to happen or not).
*About the possibility of upgrading the specs of the PS4 even up to being able to support 4K, Yoshida-san explained that it was a purely hypotetical question, due to the fact that the PS4 is based on x86 architecture, making such an upgrade easier to implement(exactly as we mentioned when we wrote about it, unfortunately others seemed to have missed that detail).
*RIME is still in development. Itll require a bit more patience because the developer is very small.
*When asked about when the PS5 will be released, he mentioned that PS5 does not exist. Whether that means that its currently not in development, we dont know.
*According to what people tell him on Twitter, they liked PlayStations Paris Games Week press conference.
*Yoshida-san is excited to play Star Wars: Battlefront, No Mans Sky and The Witness.
*There are no news to announce about PS1 and PS2 classics on PS4.
*Sonys first party developers wont make any JRPG in the foreseeable future (again, the answer was a clear cut “no” to whether we can expect any or not).
*Yoshida-sans favorite Street Fighter V character is Dhalsim, that he always used at the time of Street Fighter II.

Naughty Dog has 'one, maybe two' more games coming to PS4
Naughty Dog talks life after Uncharted 4, confirming the studio has at least one more game to come out during the current hardware cycle.Speaking with Finder, Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer said that while the studio isn't sure of how long the current hardware generation will be around for, he's confident that the California-based developer will be able to release at least one more game for Sony's current-gen console. What that is, however, remains to be seen, as Meyer wouldn't go into any details on Naughty Dog's next title following Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.
"I would hope so. I would hope we would release a game pretty soon. Yeah, our development cycles arent too long so and I have no idea how long this console generation really is going to last, but, yeah, theres no doubt it should be in this console generation for sure. Im sure theres some big master plan somewhere, in terms of what the cycles are. We usually find out about the new hardware once theyre actually ready to give us development kits even if theyre early. We dont know ahead of time when that cycle ends, we just have to focus on making the best game we can on the hardware we do have.
"I mean I have no doubt – I dont know what the timelines are – but we have at least one, maybe two games left in the console generation, maybe more. Clearly we can release a game really late in a console generation and do well, right?"

RUMOUR: Next-gen consoles could be based on AMD's GCN, 5x the perf/watt.
, thread . 2018Ok, so came across this while browsing. Not sure of this was discussed here or posted before. The site gets a lot of shit, but they have been correct in the past when it comes to AMD, especially with the news they broke over their GPU's, HBM tech and more.
So, take this with a grain of salt.
http://wccftech.com/exclusive-next-g...cted-2018-amd/
'We recently received some new information from a source close to AMD about the companys future plans and one portion of it naturally includes the next generation consoles. As probably everyone is aware, AMD is the supplier of the hearts of current generation consoles: the APUs. Considering their experience in the APU sector, it is of little surprise that AMD has plans to provide chips for the next generation of consoles as well – which if they are to be believed will happen by 2018.'
'AMD believes it is a very strong contender to supply the next round of APUs – which considering the history, isnt a bad assumption at all. The company is confident that its GCN architecture will be able to achieve at least 5x the performance/watt of the current generation, resulting in much more powerful consoles, with approximately the same power draw.'
