Next Far Cry game to have a Wild West setting, out in September – rumour

The setting of Far Cry 5, or whatever the next Far Cry game ends up being called, has apparently leaked online in the most unconventional way.

Great Falls Tribune reported about a film crew shooting a live-action trailer for an unannounced game near a church in the Montana prairie. Jeff Guillot, a producer on the shoot, revealed to the paper that this is for a game to be released in September.

Guillot also said that the production “stretched more than 5,000 miles from California to Montana” and that the game in question is “a sequel to an existing global franchise.”

This all indicates the trailer is for a Spaghetti Western game, or at least a game set in 19th century America. Everyone immediately assumed this is for Red Dead Redemption 2. Its the only game with a Western setting in development we know of, after all.

However, producer Jeff Guillot worked with Ubisoft before on promo campaigns for Driver, Red Steel 2, and Rabbids. (via Nerdbite), so its very likely this trailer is being made for a Ubisoft game.

Sources: BioWare Montreal Scaled Down, Mass Effect Put On Ice For Now

In the wake of BioWares polarizing Mass Effect: Andromeda, fans have wondered where the lauded sci-fi series will go next. The answer, according to people familiar with the studio, is nowhere—at least for the time being. BioWare has put Mass Effect on hiatus and turned Andromedas developer, BioWare Montreal, into a support studio, according to four sources close to the company.
That doesnt mean there will never be another Mass Effect game, of course. Its unlikely that BioWare will kill the popular sci-fi franchise. But BioWare is letting Mass Effect sit for a while rather than putting staff on Andromedas follow-up right away, those sources said.
Last month, a number of BioWare Montreal employees were transferred to the studio EA Motive, also based in Montreal, to work on Star Wars Battlefront II. Those remaining at BioWare Montreal will help support BioWares other games including the new intellectual property, code-named Dylan, which we expect the company to announce at E3. BioWare Montreal will also continue to patch and support Andromedas multiplayer.

Ubisoft: Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 5, Crew 2, South Park this year, 4 w/ New IP next

Ubisoft slowing down new game release rate in favor of updating games longer

Ubisoft announced a new strategy regarding their sequel release rate on their fiscal call:

    • Their games are now overwhelmingly live services that deliver strong recurring revenue, so they feel far less pressure to get games out quickly to hit their sales targets.
    • As such, they would like to focus more resources on their new games to make sure they're great.
    • They also want to focus on releasing a lot more DLC and update content for their existing live services.
    • They had previously implied that they canceled a sequel to a game in favor of updating the current game indefinitely. Pro-Tip: This was Rainbow Six Siege 2.
    • As such, both this fiscal year and next fiscal year were originally going to have five new game releases, but will instead have four each. The same was true of last fiscal year with a game (South Park) getting delayed out of it

Ubisoft: Watch Dogs, The Division, For Honor, The Crew, and Steep were all profitable

Ubisoft's new IP AAA game delayed until after March 2018, will be a multiplayer game

Ubisoft: "Multiplayer", "Competitive", "Co-op", "Open Worlds", "Live Operations"

All Ubisoft games will have live services going forward, including Assassin's Creed

    Super!

    Polygon :
Life is Strange's second season would star a new cast (if it happened)

Co-game director and art director Michel Koch added that if Dontnot does pursue a second season, it's likely to feature a new cast. He likened it to series like True Detective or American Horror Story, which refresh each season with new characters.
"We can really go with other characters, other locations, but still keep the identity of the game, the themes of the game," he said.

PlatinumGames Tease a Mysterious New IP

Inaba-san teased the existence of a “formless, shapeless IP” that he cant talk about today. Interestingly, he also mentioned that on top of the new IP, its also going to involve a new director, and its going to be interesting to see how that new director will grow, and how he will help PlatinumGames grow as a company as well.

Star Citizen is likely in financial trouble

    https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/c...GM-FC6tbyhYlss

CIG, the creators of Star Citizen, a game that has pulled in $150 million in crowdfunding, many times the original goal of $6 million, has applied for additional loan funding from a bank, in return offering up literally everything they own as collateral -the Star Citizen IP, all assets, all code, distribution rights and so on. From the attached PDF:

We have noticed the speculations created by a posting on the website of UKs Company House with respect to Coutts security for our UK Tax Rebate advance, and we would like to provide you with the following insight to help prevent some of the misinformation we have seen.

Our UK companies are entitled to a Government Game tax credit rebate which we earn every month on the Squadron 42 development. These rebates are payable by the UK Government in the fall of the next following year when we file our tax returns. Foundry 42 and its parent company Cloud Imperium Games UK Ltd. have elected to partner with Coutts, a highly regarded, very selective, and specialized UK banking institution, to obtain a regular advance against this rebate, which will allow us to avoid converting unnecessarily other currencies into GBP. We obviously incur a significant part of our expenditures in GBP while our collections are mostly in USD and EUR. Given today's low interest rates versus the ongoing and uncertain currency fluctuations, this is simply a smart money management move, which we implemented upon recommendation of our financial advisors.

The collateral granted in connection with this discounting loan is absolutely standard and pertains to our UK operation only, which develops Squadron 42. As a careful review of the security will show and contrary to some irresponsible and misleading reports, the collateral specifically excludes “Star Citizen.” The UK Government rebate entitlement, which is audited and certified by our outside auditors on a quarterly basis, is the prime collateral. Per standard procedure in banking, our UK companies of course stand behind the loan and guarantee repayment which, however, given the reliability of the discounted asset (a UK Government payment) is a formality and nothing else. This security does not affect our UK companies ownership and control of their assets. Obviously, the UK Government will not default on its rebate obligations which will be used for repayment, and even then the UK companies have ample assets to repay the loan, even in such an eventuality which is of course unthinkable.

This should clarify the matter. Thank you

Forget the NES Classic—this is the vintage system weve been waiting for. Nintendo today announced the Super Nintendo Classic, which will be out on September 29 for $80 and include 21 games including the previously unreleased Star Fox 2.

The lineup, which is excellent, also includes Earthbound, Final Fantasy III, Link to the Past, and Secret of Mana. And Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country and holy crap this thing is going to be impossible to get at a store without gouging someones eyes out, isnt it?
Unlike the NES Classic, the SNES Classics lineup is full of genuine masterpieces that have all aged well. There isnt a single bad game on this thing. Heres the full list:

    • Contra III: The Alien Wars
    • Donkey Kong Country
    • EarthBound
    • Final Fantasy III
    • F-ZERO
    • Kirby Super Star
    • Kirbys Dream Course
    • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
    • Mega Man X
    • Secret of Mana
    • Star Fox
    • Star Fox 2
    • Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
    • Super Castlevania IV
    • Super Ghouls n Ghosts
    • Super Mario Kart
    • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
    • Super Mario World
    • Super Metroid
    • Super Punch-Out!!
    • Yoshis Island
