Best-selling author Tom Clancy passed away last night in a Baltimore hospital at age 66, The New York Times confirmed via Twitter. No cause of death has been reported at this time.
Clancy penned many military-themed novels, several adapted to video games including the popular Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell series. He co-founded Red Storm Entertainment in 1996, which was later purchased by Ubisoft in August 2000.
The latest game to feature the author's name is Tom Clancy's: The Division, which is slated to launch in late 2014.

Lost actor teases "new Uncharted"
Dominic Monaghan of Lost and Lord of the Rings fame says he is "really excited" about unannounced game.
Lost and The Lord of the Rings actor Dominic Monaghan may have revealed an all-new Uncharted game.
Speaking during a conference call regarding his work on the live-action series for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, Monaghan referenced a "new Uncharted" game when discussing his thoughts on the industry.
"I'll always stay focused on the gaming world and see what's coming up," he said. "The new Uncharted I'm really excited to see how that's going to be and obviously both new gaming systems."
The most recent core Uncharted game was Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, which released in November 2011 on PlayStation 3.
Series creator Naughty Dog recently shipped The Last of Us. The company has no new announced games.
Monaghan also said during the conference that he has a game idea that he is "hopefully" going to pitch to 2K, though he did not give any details on what this game may be.
Monaghan--who played the Hobbit Merry in The Lord of the Rings and Charlie on Lost--may not be a part of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified itself, but said he would be up for playing the lead role in a game someday.
"Yeah, of course. It's like saying 'would you eat a whole pizza?' Yes, I would do that," he said.
Interesting... Could Monaghan be involved in Uncharted 4? Or is ND doing what is probably the sensible thing and starting a new franchise for next gen?

In interviews conducted for IGNs History of Naughty Dog, multiple sources independently confirmed that PlayStation 3 was originally scheduled to come out in 2005.
“For a while, [PS3 had] no GPU, it was going to run everything with XPUs. The ICE team proved to Japan that it was just impossible. It would be ridiculous. Performance-wise, it would be a disaster. Thats why they finally added the GPU, closer to the end.”
Another source confirmed that, during the delay, Sony was “still trying to figure out the hardware” it was creating, and mimicked the notion that “for a while, it didnt even have a GPU," hence the delay. It's important to note that, before PlayStation 3 was even named, there were very early rumors that it may launch in 2005, but by the time it was officially revealed at E3 2005, an accelerated release schedule was likely already abandoned.
A fourth source noted, “I think that the hardware guys focused too much on getting the [Sonys proprietary processor] CELL working that the GPU project [for PlayStation 3] ultimately fell behind.”
