GOG has reversed its decision to include regional pricing on some upcoming games, calling it a “mistake” after nearly 10,000 (mostly negative) comments poured into their forums. In a thorough apology, GOG co-founders Marcin Iwinski and Guillaume Rambourg write that they should never have made that call.
Some background: when GoodOldGames.com relaunched as GOG, it formalized two central values: that every game should be sold DRM-free, and every game should be sold for the same price everywhere in the world—two declarations that stood it apart from competitor Steam. Gamers in Australia should never pay more than gamers in Sweden, GOG declared, and absolutely no one should suffer through DRM. Publishers of some games, like Age of Wonders 3, werent totally on board with abandoning regional prices, so GOG began to budge on the flat-price promise in order to get more games into its DRM-free storefront.
“We didnt listen and we let you down. We shouldn't sacrifice one of our core values in an attempt to advance another. We feel bad about that, and we're sorry,” Iwinski and Rambourge wrote today. “Us being sorry is not of much use to you, so lets talk about how we will fix it.”
The most interesting new change: when GOG fails to get a publisher to agree to flat, worldwide pricing, GOG will eat the difference themselves. “We will adamantly continue to fight for games with flat worldwide pricing. If that fails and we are required to have regional prices, we will make up the difference for you out of our own pockets.”
From now on, games at GOG will be sold around the world at US prices—either because the publisher agreed to it, or because the price increase is being offset by store credit from GOG. Its a great deal for international gamers, and a graceful exit to a turbulent two weeks in the GOG community. Check out the full apology at GOG.

The Call of Duty franchise has been associated with the Xbox brand for quite a while, but something may be changing, as gathered by industry insider Pete “Famousmortimer” Dodd, that normally has a good track record with what his industry sources share with him. To provide an example, he was the one that first mentioned the difference in resolution of Call of Duty: Ghosts between PS4 and Xbox One.
This morning Dodd posted on NeoGaf something quite interesting:
Im not ready to jump on the XB1 is doomed train yet. Titanfall, or really any game, can turn the fortunes, but as of now – yes, good start but valid concerns. The PS4 is above and beyond all projections and publishers are re-calibrating to this. I heard that Activision is going to make a public announcement about COD changing to the PS4 as lead platform. I have no idea if this means DLC (I assume MS locked that down for multiple years) but COD was a XBOX 360 game that happened to be on the ps3 last gen. That will be a hugely symbolic move… and dont discount what that means to the masses.
Thats actually quite believable, especially considering how Activision seems to be very favorable to Sonys consoles with Destiny and its very much advertised early access to the beta for PlayStation players. Activision and Electronic Arts seem to have somewhat switched allegiance between the latest generation and the new one.
The next Call of Duty was also allegedly showcased at Destination PlayStation, which definitely seems to match a possible switch.
In addition to that (and talking about interesting changes from the old generation) Dodd also mentioned that PS4 is selling more than Xbox One on the digital games from.
Also, dont sleep on inFamous. It will be very, very, close to Titanfall XB1 this month. Sony is also doing far more digital sales than MS so far (which is a weird switch from the middle of last gen).
Thats actually quite intriguing, since we normally dont get much information on digital download sales, its also not too surprising considering the rather relevant difference in installed base between the two consoles.
Of course, like all information coming from insiders and not confirmed by official announcements, we should take it with a grain of salt, and we can only wait and see if Activisions announcement will really happen, possibly at E3.
Megaton!

God of War Dev Stig Asmussen Leaves Sony Santa Monica
IGN.
He was purportedly working on a separate project unrelated to God of War, one that may have been cancelled following a round of layoffs at Sony Santa Monica several weeks ago. Whether he left Sony Santa Monica on his own accord before or after the studio shed employees, or departed as part of the layoffs is unknown.
