    Japan Buys Over 300,000 PSP Slims In Three Days

    And finally, the PSP shows signs of life! At least in Japan. And in direct contrast to our own, highly scientific findings. Enterbrain have announced that the PSP-2000 has sold 250,702 units in its first three days on the market. Impressive, but more so when you consider that counts only the standalone units: another 75,943 Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core bundles were also shifted, giving us a total of 326,645. If you don't think there's money to be made in new colours and the 176th Final Fantasy game of 2007, you're kidding yourself.

    Sony Release Official PSP Theme Creator

    Sony have released a PC program which lets you design and edit your own, user-created PSP themes. Icons, backgrounds, the works. It's free, it's in English, it's a small download and, best of all, it's in English. All you need to do is substitute the existing icons with your own, and you're good to go.

    PSP Slim Hits Half a Million in Japan
    Sony happily reports reaching the milestone in just two weeks

    UK, October 4, 2007 - Sony is boasting about the fact that only two weeks after the PlayStation Portable Slim and Lite went on sale in Japan, 500,000 units have already been sold.

    Erm... and that's the news, really. But, just in case you've been too drunk to remember anything over the past fortnight, the Slim and Lite is the remodelled version of the PSP, which is 33% lighter, 19% slimmer and offers reduced loading times for games.

    Gran Turismo Mobile back in the works (again)

    It was one of the first PSP games to ever be shown. Then, it was canceled. Then, it was resurrected. Then, it mysterious disappeared, hidden away under the shadow of the colossal Gran Turismo 5. Finally, things look a bit brighter for mobile racing fans. "We are working on the PSP version, and we will get around to it eventually," GT producer Yamauchi told GamePro.

    The plan is to finish the game right after the release of Gran Turismo 5 next year. Although we'd love to believe you, Yamauchi, we're going to place some skepticism on your statement. Place your bets now to see how many times this game will get canceled, and uncanceled in the coming months.

    PSP Slim and Lite continues dominance in Japan

    Weekly sales of Sonys PlayStation Portable in Japan have continued to maintain a hold over competing consoles for the period September 24 - 30, despite an overall drop in 175,000 units sold from the previous week.

    As previously documented, sales of the handheld skyrocketed on the strength of the new Slim and Lite model, which launched September 20. Numbers were also boosted by the aid of a special limited edition version marking the release the PSP-exclusive, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, which launched a week earlier.

    Sony lays out its plans for the PSP Store

    GI.biz has managed to wangle a host of new details about the PSP store. We know it's currently available in Japan and has been since TGS, but what about the English speaking world? And what can we expect to find on it? The US version of the store will be unveiled this winter on PC and at some point in 2008 on the PSP. The PC version allows you to download straight to your PSP via a USB cable, while the PSP version will be accessible directly on the handheld via any wireless access point.

    Sony has also revealed that seven download-only games are in production for the service during 2008. These include three action games, two rhythm games, a racing title and a shooting game. All of these games are being developed in-house by Sony, though there are talks of getting third-party publishers involved. Other content which will be available throughout 2008 will include video content such as trailers and behind the scenes clips, downloadable content for UMD games, demos and PS1 games. Thirteen PS1 games will be made available throughout 2008, all of which are currently available on the PS3 Store. Presumably these games will be from the Japanese PlayStation Store as the European and American stores have considerably less than 13 available currently.

    There is currently no word on a European release date but chances are the American store will be accessible from European territories (and it'll probably be updated more often, too), so no worries there.

    What is Metal Gear Solid: Infinite War?

    A recent Sony newsletter revealed a mysterious title: Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops: Infinite War. Could this be the US title of Portable Ops Plus? But, the ESRB has already rated a game named Portable Ops Plus -- surely, this can't be a different game! Is this a mistake, or is MGS getting a title change for the US?

    Rumor: Dragon Quest coming to PSP

    Here's a juicy rumor to ponder. Gamelabo is reporting that Square Enix is working on a PSP version of Dragon Quest IX. The RPG is currently a DS exclusive, but according to this short snippet, encouraging sales of the PSP have made Square Enix consider multi-platform development. This is far from confirmed, but if this comes to fruition, it'll certainly be a huge win for PSP owners.

    Worldwide PSP releases for the week of November 4

    We're sure this is going to be a great week for PSP owners due to the release of several highly anticipated titles, including Silent Hill Origins and SOCOM: Tactical Strike, which Andrew gave a 9.5 and said was an easy candidate for the PSP's game of the year.

    US Games

    * Silent Hill Origins
    * SOCOM: Tactical Strike
    * The Simpsons Game
    * World Series of Poker 2008: Battle for the Bracelets

    EU Games

    * Ben 10: Protector of Earth
    * WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw 2008

    Asia Games

    * Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
    * Minna no Golf Ba Vol. 4
    * Namco Museum Vol. 2
    * NBA Live 08
    * Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology
    * Xyanide Resurrection

    While there isn't a lot being released this week in Europe, Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 should be entertaining, and now Japan finally gets Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles, so they should be happy. Overall, this is a much better week than last week.
