Sony is disappointed, but unsurprised, by the FFXIII announcement

At a conference with game writers at E3, SCEA boss Jack Tretton spoke about Sony's feelings toward the announcement that a flagship title, Final Fantasy XIII, will also see a simultaneous release on the Xbox 360. His feelings: "Am I disappointed by it? Yes ... Am I surprised? No." We suppose we shouldn't be too surprised either. With the cost of game development growing as it is, holding onto third-party franchises is much more difficult. The game is still PS3-only in Japan, but we should really expect this generation to revolve around first-party developers. Everything else will more likely than not see release on more than one platform.

Many of us have been severly let down by Square-Enix after their announcement that Final Fantasy XIII would be seeing a release on Xbox 360 but I doubt any of us have been hit as hard as this. Apparently a GameFAQs member has been contemplating suicide after this announcement.

The member "pie185" was soo affected by Square-Enix's choice that he posted a suicide note on the GameFAQs forum in which he told everyone what an affect the Final Fantasy series has had on his life. According to the rumor, the member has killed himself and hasn't logged in since. I haven't been able to find the post myself but our forum member Moklin, has a screenshot of it from YTMND.

Square Enix has gone PC. On the first day of the show, the Japanese game publisher announced that Final Fantasy XIII is coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 (in Europe and North America only) and PC. During a press conference following the Microsoft event, Final Fantasy XIII Producer Yoshinori Kitase discussed the new development strategy that Square Enix has taken with its upcoming games.

Aside from the new The Last Remnant game, which is being created for Xbox 360 and PS3 using Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 externally, all new internally-developed games from Square Enix, including Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, and an untitled new massively multiplayer online game, utilize the new PC-based Crystal Tools development environment. These tools allow development teams to create cross-platform games.

"The content will be the same on all platforms," said Kitase. "However, we have yet to determine how many discs will be required for the 360 version. We'll have to consider the differences between formats. Currently the game is being built on PC, where it's actually functional. We're still focusing on making it work on PS3, so it's difficult to know how long the process of taking it to 360 will take."

Thanks to the new PC development platform, Kitase added, "Now that we're developing on a PC base, the pace is going a bit faster," Kitase said. "We haven't introduced new footage of the game, but we should be able to show something new in the near future."

Square Enix showed the beautiful pre-rendered trailer for Final Fantasy XIII at the end of the Microsoft press conference. The publisher has a big event scheduled for Tokyo next month where the first new information will be revealed on all Final Fantasy titles. Previously, the publisher released its online game, Final Fantasy XII, on Xbox 360 and PC.

Όχι βρε παιδιά. Και το White Engine το ξεγράψανε τελείως; Δεν μπορεί.

Πολλά έχουν ακουστεί. Προσωπικά έχω διαβάσει ότι το FF13 για το PS3 το κάνουν στο White και για το 360 θα το κάνουν στο Pc. Ότι το FF13 πάει όλο στο PC και το Versus 13 γίνεται με White και χίλια δυο άλλα!

Όπως και να 'χει, ας είναι καλό το παιχνίδι και βλέπουμε...

Moλις γυρισα απο τις διακοπες μου και εχω μεινει καγκελο με αυτο που ειδα!
Πρωτα απ'ολα μπραβο στην ms, μαγκια της. Κατα δευτερον μιλαμε για το μεγαλυτερο χτυπημα στο ps3 μεχρι στιγμης μακραν και το μεγαλυτερο χτυπημα στη sony εδω και πολλα χρονια. Γιατι κακα τα αστεια, το ff13 ηταν το δυνατοτερο exclusive της sony σε αυτη τη γενια και λογω της ποιοτητας της σειρας και των εκατομμυριων φανς της και φυσικα για τη συνδεση που ειχε το ff με τη sony τα προηγουμενα χρονια. Τωρα ολα αυτα τα μπινελικια και οι αφορισμοι που βλεπω απο καποιους, συγνωμη αλλα δε θα παρω. Εννοειται οτι η square κοιταξε το κερδος για να κανει αυτη την κινηση οπως το ιδιο εκανε ολα αυτα τα χρονια και οπως κανει και καθε εταιρια που σεβεται τον εαυτο της. Και αναλογα με τις χρονικες συγκυριες και τα δεδομενα καθε φορα αποφασιζε τι θα κανει και αυτη τη φορα αποφασισε να το κανει multi.Ουτε το γεγονος οτι εγινε multi θα με κανει να πιστεψω οτι σωνει και καλα το παιχνιδι θα χασει σε ποιοτητα και θα ειναι κατωτερο απ'οτι αν εβγαινε μονο στο ps3. Μεχρι στιγμης δεν εχω δει τιποτα απολυτως απο το παιχνιδι για να αρχιζω να βγαζω συμπερασματα...Το μονο αρνητικο που βλεπω εγω και αυτο ειναι δεδομενο ειναι οτι θα αργησει ακομα περισσοτερο να βγει.
Δεν ξερω, νομιζω οτι απο το 1996 και μετα που παιρνω τις κονσολες της sony ειναι η πρωτη φορα που τη βλεπω σε τοσο δεινη κατασταση. Μεχρι το 2005 επαιζε μονη της για πλακα, ειναι η πρωτη φορα που δεχεται τοσο ισχυρο ανταγωνισμο απο μια αλλα εταιρια και κονσολα και, αποψη μου, μεχρι στιγμης τουλαχιστον οχι μονο πιεζεται αλλα χανει κιολας...και σε επιπεδο ποιοτητας και ποσοτητας τιτλων αλλα και εντυπωσεων και στρατηγικων κινησεων
Και οσον αφορα τα rpgs που καποτε το playstation ηταν ο παραδεισος, αυτη τη φορα ειτε μπορουν καποιοι να το δεχτουν ειτε οχι η πρωτη επιλογη για τους gamers οπως φαινεται ειναι το 360...

Just to clear up any confusion, recently a lot of people have mistaken a statement on the development cycle of Final Fantasy XIII as "FFXIII for PC".

Square-Enix have stated that Final Fantasy XIII will be developed using Crystal Tools on a PC for Playstation 3, then Xbox 360. This comment was mistaken as "Final Fantasy XIII is being developed for PC."

Square Enix have recently said that they have no such plans to release Final Fantasy XIII for PC after being contacted by VG247.

5.Final Fantasy WON’T be released on the xBox 360 in Japan.

This is really the biggest kick in the teeth, considering now that Sony believes that the PS3 has sold more than the 360 in Europe. But over in Japan, Final Fantasy is an obsession on a national scale, the money generated from that exclusivity in Japan should be enough for Sony not to worry about Europe and America.


4.Final Fantasy 11 was on the 360.

Remember 11, or as the more optimistic like to remember ‘The 6th most played Xbox live game’. Although this also appeared on the PS2, the game was mainly for Microsoft, as an early MMORPG. Unfortunately, bar the hardcore, the game never took off for 2 years on the platform, the same thing may happen again for 13.

3.Final Fantasy 7 – Will History strike twice? No

If message boards had be the domain of the ignorant and stupid back in 1997, many Sony and Nintendo fans would be sprouting the same kind of verbal sewage that is being spilled today. Final Fantasy was a Nintendo game, no one would dare dream releasing it on a different console, and for a time, the cartridge was going to support Final Fantasy 7, but Square in the end plumbed for the CD, and there was still a whopping 3 of them to go through.

2.Blu-Ray

Ok, come on, you knew this one was coming. DVD’s can hold around 8GB, Blu-Ray 50GB. That’s roughly 6 DVD’s worth of gameplay that could be fitted onto a Blu-Ray disc. If Metal Gear Solid 4 filled the disc up, then there’s a strong chance that Final Fantasy 13 will push the media, and the more disc’s and possible installation on the 360 could cause problems for the Hard Drive.

1.Spin-Off’s and DLC.

Versus, the spin-off for the PS3, is still PS3-exculsive for the time being. Now not exactly world shifting I know, but it’s still Final Fantasy and fans will still lick it up. But the interesting part could be DLC, with Microsoft securing it for GTA and Fallout 3, Sony may have an ace yet to play and have secured for Final Fantasy 13. Having said that, watch as Microsoft sweep it now for the 360…

If you thought it was all over, fear not! Impressions of the Final Fantasy XIII, Versus XIII and Agito XIII trailers are already hitting the web. It appears the new FF13 demo has featured an all new Sephiroth-like character. He was standing next to Nomchan (unofficial name for Pigtails girl), who was wearing a hood. In addition, it seems Square Enix has already worked quite a bit on Agito XIII since there was probably real-time PSP footage in the event (No one can tell exactly, but PSP controls were shown in the video).

Is Microsoft holding back, or will the FF demo remain a PS3/Blu-ray exclusive?

DKΣ3713 announcements have begun to make their way around the interwebs, and according to a translation of FF7AC Reunion provided by FinalFantasy-XIII.net, the Advent Children: Complete Blu-ray, currently scheduled for release in March of 2009, will contain a playable FFXIII demo and the Final Fantasy Agito XIII trailer.
While I personally own both next gen consoles, it appears that the demo will only work on the Blu-ray capable Sony PS3. This news may sting the Xbox 360 owners who only recently found out that they too would be able to play Final Fantasy XIII on their console.
Of course there’s still a chance that Microsoft will throw a few bucks in the direction of Square Enix and get themselves a demo as well, but as of right now, Sony PS3 owners once again have the upper hand in the battle of FF supremacy.

Εγώ πάλι δεν κατάλαβα... Ανακοίνωσαν μια ημερομηνία για την Ιαπωνία όπου ήταν έτσι κι αλλιώς exclusive.

Το ότι βγαίνει Ιούνιο 2009 εκεί δεν σημαίνει τίποτα για εμάς... Το blu-ray με το demo, θα βγει και σε Αμερική/Ευρώπη; Εγώ θα έπαιρνα το blu-ray έτσι κι αλλιώς, αλλά αδυνατώ να καταλάβω πώς ένα demo αποτελεί με οποιοδήποτε τρόπο "μεγάλη ανακοίνωση για τους fans". Αν νομίζουν ότι με ένα demo θα είμαστε ευχαριστημένοι έχουν σηκώσει πολύ τον αμανέ και φοβάμαι για την ποσότητα του τελικού προϊόντος.

Eκτος απο καθολου "shocking" oπως ελεγαν απο την SE πριν το event, η ειδηση για το demo δεν ειναι καν ευχαριστη. Δεν ειναι δυνατον ενα προιον που κατα κανονα διατιθεται για δοκιμη και ειναι ΕΝΤΕΛΩΣ ΔΩΡΕΑΝ(demos) , να μας το πουλανε (ουσιαστικα) στην συσκευασια του AC:Complete. Ειναι απλα απαραδεκτο kαι γελοιο να προσπαθουν καποιοι να το πουλησουν σαν "ειδηση" η "πλεονεκτημα" για τους κατοχους ps3. Συμφωνω με τα οσα ειπε ο Valkyre σε αυτο και το αλλο τοπικ.

In the video, director Motomu Toriyama didn't beat around the bush when Nomura asked him questions about the 360 FFXIII. Starting off, he reconfirmed that, "We haven't changed the direction of the development. We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later." That means that since the game will be released simultaneously on both platforms in North America and Europe, the PS3 release will be held back in those territories until the 360 version is complete.
Furthermore, Toriyama also revealed that, as of July 29, his team hasn't yet received the tools needed to begin work on the Xbox 360 version of FFXIII. "I'm telling them to not think about the Xbox 360 right now," he said. "We can think about it after the development kits arrive."

Το ειπε ξεκαθαρα, η εκδοση του ps3 θα καθυστερησει extra μεχρι να τελειωσουν με αυτη του 360, την οποια δεν εχουν αρχισει καν. Ουτε dev kits δεν εχουν ακομα.
Ολο και χειροτερα τα νεα και πιστευω οτι δεν εχουμε δεχτει ακομα το τελειωτικο χτυπημα. Πιο συγκεκριμενα, το επομενο θα αφορα αυτο εχω την εντυπωση.

Γιατί όμως πρέπει να καθυστερήσει και η ΄έκδοση για το ps3 δεν γίνεται να βγάλουν το game πρώτα για μας και μετά να βγάλουν για το 360.δεν γίνεται να τα βγάλουν το καθένα σε διαφορετική στιγμή
