Days Gone Will Release in 2018 According to Shu Yoshida; More Info on the Game Shared
Today during the PlayStation Experience opening presentation Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida talked about SIE Bend Studios Days Gone.
First of all, Yoshida-san mentioned that Days Gone will come in 2018. This is the first time that a Sony executive actually announces a release year for the game.
Yoshida-san has been playing the title. While its not playable at PlayStation experience, its playable internally from start to end, and its currently in the phase in which developers are applying tweaks and polish, and doing playtesting. Its a “big game,” and there is a lot of focus on storytelling. Yet, its still an action game where players can approach each situation in different ways.
Interestingly, we heard that there were conversations internally about the game possibly overlapping with The Last of Us Part II. The folks at Bend and developers at Naughty Dog had those conversations to make sure that the games went in different enough directions. According to Yoshida-san they are indeed different.

Days Gones "Freak-O-System" Will Be Discussed By Sony Bend at GDC 2018
source: GamingboltOne of the more intriguing mechanics in Sony Bends upcoming open world zombie shooter Days Gone looks to be the “Freak-O system”, which will govern the AI of how units spawn and interact, with one another, with the environment, and with the player character. Potentially, this could be the games most important system, as it could add spontaneity and emergence to the game.
Sony Bend will be discussing this mechanic at GDC this year. During an AI summit at the event, AI lead Darren Chisum, and senior staff programmer Tobias Karisson will discuss exactly how the Freak-O system works, and how it will play into the games combat.
There will be a second talk on Days Gone at GDC, this one by lead graphics programmer at Bend, Graham Aldridge, who will talk about how Sony Bend is using screen space shadows to maximize shadow detail in the game.
