Netflix Unveils ‘Pacific Rim’, ‘Altered Carbon’ & More In New Lineup Of Anime Originals

• Pacific Rim, which expands the world of the two live-action movies of the same name, returns to the epic battle of Kaiju and Jaegers. The original anime series follows two siblings β€” an idealistic teenage boy and his naΓ―ve younger sister β€” who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents. Co-showrunners are Craig Kyle (Thor:Ragnarok) and Greg Johnson (X-Men: Evolution). The series comes from Legendary Entertainment (Kong: Skull Island; Pokemon: Detective Pikachu)
• Set in the same universe as the Netflix-live-action sci-fi series β€” which is currently in production β€” Altered Carbon will explore new elements of the story mythology. The series comes from the animation studio, Anima and will be written by Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) and Tsukasa Kondo.
• From the animation studio Gonzo (Hellsing, Afro Samurai), Cagaster of an Insect Cage is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious disease β€œCagaster” turns people into giant murderous insects, this manga-based series follows the struggle of a young couple to stay alive. Koichi Chigira (Last Exile, Full Metal Panic!) directs.
• Set in a war-torn Japan of mechs and magic, Yasuke follows a retired ronin who must take up his sword when he is charged with the task of transporting a mysterious child who dark forces want to eliminate. The series from the animation studio MAPPA will feature the voice of Sorry to Bother You star Lakeith Stanfield as the titular protagonist, which is based on the historical samurai of African origin who fought with Oda Nobunaga. Creator/Director/Executive Producer is LeSean Thomas(The Boondocks, Cannon Busters) while the Grammy-nominated Flying Lotus will compose the music and serve as an Executive Producer.
• Trese is set in a Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans, Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld comprised of malevolent supernatural beings. This anime series is based on the Philippine graphic novel by the same name, created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldissimo. Jay Oliva (Wonder Woman, The Legend of Korra) will serve as Executive Producer. Producers are Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson at BASE Entertainment, a studio based in Jakarta and Singapore.

Netflix has added six diverse and global perspectives to their forthcoming slate of animated programming. The lineup includes both feature films and original series suited for kids and families.



From the CG of Kris Pearn’s The Willoughbys to the 2D style of Nora Twomey’s My Father’s Dragon, the slate includes a variety of animation styles.

The robust slate of films joins the roster of other previously announced Netflix family animated titles that include Chris Williams’ Jacob and the Sea Beast, Sergio Pablos’ Klaus, Rajiv Chilaka’s Mighty Little Bheem, Josh Wakely’s animated series Motown Magic, Glen Keane’s CG adventure Over the Moon, Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion version of Pinocchio, and Wendell & Wild from Henry Selick and Jordan Peele.


Maya and the Three (2021) is an animated limited series created, written, and directed by Jorge Gutierrez (The Book of Life, El Tigre). Set in a mythical Mesoamerican inspired world, a warrior princess embarks on a quest to recruit three legendary fighters to help save the world of men and gods. Silvia Olivas (Elena of Avalor) is co-writer and co-executive producer, and Jeff Ranjo (Moana) is head of story.

My Father’s Dragon (2021) is a 2D animated family feature film from director Nora Twomey (The Secret of Kells, The Breadwinner) and written by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur), with story by Meg LeFauve and John Morgan, who are also executive producers. Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn of Mockingbird Pictures are producing together with Paul Young of Cartoon Saloon (The Secret of Kells, The Breadwinner) and Tomm Moore. Based on the Newbery Honored children’s novels by Ruth Stiles Gannett, My Father’s Dragon tells the story of young run-away Elmer Elevator, who searches for a captive Dragon on Wild Island and finds much more than he could ever have anticipated. Alan Moloney and Ruth Coady of Parallel Films will also serve as executive producers alongside Gerry Shirren.

Go! Go! Cory Carson (2019) is an animated preschool series from Kuku Studios in Berkeley, CA executive produced by Alex Woo (Wallβ€’e, Ratatouille), Stanley Moore (Finding Dory, Monster’s University) and Tone Thyne (Wonder Pets!, The Adventures of Napkin Man!). Based on the hit toy line Go! Go! Smart Wheels from VTech Electronics, Go! Go! Cory Carson follows the adventures of kid car Cory Carson as he navigates the winding roads of childhood in Bumperton Hills.

Kid Cosmic (2020) is an animated series in production from Craig McCracken (The Powerpuff Girls, Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends). This is a show about a young boy who dreams of becoming a hero, and when he stumbles across some cosmic stones of power his dreams appear to have come true! Unfortunately, the reality of being a hero vs. the fantasy of being a hero are completely different and this challenge becomes the biggest battle he has to face. The Kid may be the good guy, but he’s really bad at it!

Trash Truck (2020) is an animated series in production from Max Keane (Dear Basketball). Hank is a free-range, dirt-covered 6-year-old boy with a big imagination and an even bigger best pal… a giant honking, snorting trash truck. From learning to fly to going to the dentist, there is no adventure too big or too small for these two best friends. Glen Keane (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast) and Gennie Rim (Dear Basketball) serve as executive producers alongside Max Keane.

The Willoughbys (2020) is a highly stylized CG animated feature film currently in production with BRON Animation in Vancouver from writer/director Kris Pearn (Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2). When the four Willoughby children are abandoned by their selfish parents, they must learn how to adapt their old-fashioned values to the contemporary world in order to create a new and modern family. Based on the book by Newbery Award-winning author, Lois Lowry. Starring Ricky Gervais, Maya Rudolph, Will Forte, Martin Short, Alessia Cara and Jane Krakowski.

DEVIL MAY CRY SERIES JOINS CASTLEVANIA IN NEW MULTIVERSE FROM ADI SHANKAR

IGN can confirm that an animated-series adaptation of Capcom's popular video game franchise, Devil May Cry, is in the works. The series will be developed by Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar.

Shankar, in an exclusive interview with IGN's Jacki Jing, also revealed that his Devil May Cry series β€œwill join Castlevania in what we’re now calling the bootleg multiverse.”

hile Shankar didn't give us any specifics in terms of what this all means for the series' overall story, he did inform us that he "acquired these (Devil May Cry) rights myself so the jabronis in Hollywood don’t f*** this one up too." Shankar's financial investment should allow him more creative freedom, as he begins to build this wildly ambitious multiverse of his.

Shankar attributes the Devil May Cry series announcement to the success Castlevania, which he says, "really over-performed. It did crazy well. We immediately got greenlit for Season 3.” Thanking the fans who made this all possible, Shankar said, β€œI wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for the fans."

Έχω φτάσει στο 8ο επεισόδιο και το βλέπω, σχεδόν με το ζόρι,μήπως και καταλήξει κάπου.

Εμένα το Maniac μου άρεσε, ήταν και λίγα επεισόδια και το είδα με άνεση.

Spoiler για να πω κάποια πράγματα παραπάνω (μην το ανοίξετε αν δεν το έχετε δει όλο)

Ήταν λιγότερο mindfuck απ' όσο περίμενα, νόμιζα στην αρχή ότι θα αναρωτιόμαστε συνέχεια αν είναι αλήθεια όλο αυτό με το πείραμα ή όχι, αλλά τελικά το έκαναν πιο straightforward.
Μεγάλοι μακάκες οι δύο γιατροί. Σε ύφος εννοώ.
Η Emma Stone πολύ καλή.
Το επεισόδιο που δεν μου άρεσε τόσο ήταν αυτό που ήταν σαν elf, γενικά αυτή η θεματολογία με ork και τέτοια δεν με τραβάει τόσο.
Το επεισόδιο με το ζώο που κάνει ο Hill και η Stone το ζευγάρι ήταν γαμάτο και μου θύμισε gta από ένα σημείο και μετά.
Gta μου θύμισε και μια ατάκα στο επεισόδιο που ο Hill είναι καταδότης κάποιου ή κάτι τέτοιο και συνεργάζεται με την αστυνομία. "A jigsaw piece isn't square, you dumb motherfucker!" Γαμάτη ατάκα.
Είχε μια πρωτοτυπία που δεν τους έκαναν ζευγάρι στο τέλος, αλλά φίλους.

Το Maniac αν και ως ιδέα μου τράβηξε αρκετά το ενδιαφέρον..............στο 2ο επεισόδιο το σταμάτησα γιατί ήταν σουρεάλ άνευ ουσίας. Δήθεν προς χάρην της δήθεν φιλμ-νουάρ/κουλτούρας να φύγουμε.

Side note: περί Westworld 2ης σαιζόν.
Έχοντας περάσει καιρός που την είδα = μπορώ να κρίνω πιο ψύχραιμα, αποστασιοποιημένα.
Τελικά η 2η σαιζόν είναι μια απόλυτη μπούρδα. Κουραστικό μοντάζ, επιτηυδευμένα δύσκολο στη θέαση λόγω χαοτικής ροής.....η οποία δεν εξυπηρετεί απολύτως πουθενά παρά να μπερδεύει τον θεατή στοχευμένα, ώστε εκείνος να πεί από μέσα του "πω πω, έχει βάθος!!!" ενώ στην πραγματικότητα είναι μια σούπα από ιδέες, κάκιστα υλοποιημένες, ένας αχταρμάς ημιτελών συλλογισμών. Μάλιστα, κάποιες από αυτές τις ιδέες είναι αστείες (παράδεισος για androids; κλαίω). Avoid.

Οντως προσπαθει να σε μπερδεψει και σε κανει να νιωθεις λες και οι δημιουργοι λενε "χαχα σε μπερδεψαμε"... "χαχα bye bye 3rd season" λεω εγω...

Πραγματικά έπρεπε να τελειώσει στο πρώτο season που για μένα είναι ότι καλύτερο έιχα δει τα τελευταία χρόνια.
