    Default SNOW [+VR]

SNOW is an incredibly ambitious game. Coming exclusively to PS4, the open-world, free-to-play skiing and snowboarding title from Poppermost Productions aims to deliver the most authentic winter sports simulation yet, giving players the freedom to tear up the slopes like a pro and create a true sandbox experience.

Speaking with Red Bull, Poppermost CEO Alexander Bergendahl goes into more detail about what to expect from SNOW, stating that the game world is already a whopping 130km3 with further areas set to be added, as well as additional features such as multiplayer, customisation options and the ability to edit levels.

“With SNOW we set out from day one to create the game to represent these sports,” says Bergendahl. “For us that meant being and staying relevant by offering the game as a service and partnering with dozens of the biggest brands, athletes, events and trendsetters. The gameplay is similarly democratic, as the game is physics-driven and open-world the player can literally do anything that they see their favourite athlete do, or come up with an entirely new approach of their own. We give the player the ability and freedom to approach the sport as they wish.”
It’s a big decision to strike an exclusivity deal with Sony for PS4 but Bergendahl believes that it’s the ideal platform.
“The PS4 was an obvious choice for us,” he said. “Not only is Sony’s console leading this new generation but they’ve also created a platform and framework ideal for SNOW. They’re big supporters of the free-to-play model and are providing us with the tools and support we need to really deliver a high quality experience.
The PS4 is also a social console and SNOW will take full advantage of all aspects of that. From the “What’s New” feed when you start the console to the Share button on each gamepad, we can extend Snow outside of the game itself and create the same sharing/bragging relationship as you would have in real life on the slopes.”
You can check out the interview in full at Red Bull and watch the announcement trailer below which shows off some of the glorious-looking environments and tricks we'll be able to pull off.

SNOW To Eventually Release On XB1; PSVR Support Already In, PC/PS4 CrossPlay Being Investigated

Swedish developer Poppermost has been working on SNOW for quite some time now. Developed with CryENGINE, the game has been available on Steam Early Access since March 2014 and it will now transition into Open Beta from January 27.
We’ve reached out to CEO Alexander Bergendahl to learn a bit more about SNOW. The game has been previously confirmed to launch on PlayStation 4 too since Sony reached an agreement with the studio, and we asked them the likelihood of an Xbox One version once this deal expired.

    • You’ve said that you have a temporary exclusivity deal with Sony preventing you to launch the game at the same time on Xbox One. That said, how strong is the likelihood that SNOW will indeed release on Xbox One once the period is up?
    • We receive emails every day from people who want to play SNOW but only have an Xbox One, so I’m sure we’ll see the game make its way over there eventually. We’re a small team and with our limited resources have to focus on a single platform at a time. We want to bring SNOW to as many platforms as possible but have to make sure we don’t kill ourselves doing it.

Good news for Xbox gamers who are interested in winter sports, then. Since Poppermost already added support for the Oculus Rift on PC, we asked about PlayStationVR on PS4.

    • Do you plan to add PSVR support at some point?
    • For sure! We’ve been working a lot with various VR devices and have some initial implementation already live in the Closed Beta.

Since SNOW is heavy on multiplayer competition, we asked if the team intended to implement CrossPlay between the PC and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.

    • Do you intend to implement cross-play between PC and PlayStation 4 and if not, why?
    • We’re still investigating what’s possible on that front. We’d of course love to allow PC and PlayStation 4 players the ability to play and enjoy the mountain together.

Check back tomorrow for the second part of our interview with Poppermost.
