SNOW is an incredibly ambitious game. Coming exclusively to PS4, the open-world, free-to-play skiing and snowboarding title from Poppermost Productions aims to deliver the most authentic winter sports simulation yet, giving players the freedom to tear up the slopes like a pro and create a true sandbox experience.
Speaking with
Red Bull, Poppermost CEO Alexander Bergendahl goes into more detail about what to expect from SNOW, stating that the game world is already a whopping 130km3 with further areas set to be added, as well as additional features such as multiplayer, customisation options and the ability to edit levels.
“With SNOW we set out from day one to create the game to represent these sports,” says Bergendahl. “For us that meant being and staying relevant by offering the game as a service and partnering with dozens of the biggest brands, athletes, events and trendsetters. The gameplay is similarly democratic, as the game is physics-driven and open-world the player can literally do anything that they see their favourite athlete do, or come up with an entirely new approach of their own. We give the player the ability and freedom to approach the sport as they wish.”
It’s a big decision to strike an exclusivity deal with Sony for PS4 but Bergendahl believes that it’s the ideal platform.
“The PS4 was an obvious choice for us,” he said. “Not only is Sony’s console leading this new generation but they’ve also created a platform and framework ideal for SNOW. They’re big supporters of the free-to-play model and are providing us with the tools and support we need to really deliver a high quality experience.
The PS4 is also a social console and SNOW will take full advantage of all aspects of that. From the “What’s New” feed when you start the console to the Share button on each gamepad, we can extend Snow outside of the game itself and create the same sharing/bragging relationship as you would have in real life on the slopes.”
