    we're left with a 1920x768 resolution on PlayStation 4 and a meagre 1600x640 on Xbox One. In effect, it's the now-familiar 1080p vs 900p set-up here, but the intrusive borders serve to cut-down actual rendering resolution significantly. Only 71 per cent of the screen's real estate is actually used for gameplay - and the aspect ratio utilised is actually a higher 2.5:1 rather than the 'cinematic' 2.35:1.

    Where there's any cluttering of vehicles around the city's downtown area, we see the performance ranging between 20-30fps on both platforms. From our frame-rate analysis, the game hits 22fps at its lowest point on Xbox One, while PS4 shows 25fps at its worst in comparable scenes.

    Όσον αφορά το lords of the fallen είναι απλα ντροπή να υποστηρίζουν 30 fps...

    Μόνιμα κάτω απο 30 στο ps4.

    Ίσως και εδώ έπρεπε να είναι όπως στο one.

    In the main, asset quality is identical between the two platforms. From the handling of shadow rendering to texture detail, there's little to distinguish the Xbox One release from the PS4. But based on the first three campaign levels we've analysed in-depth, the larger disparity is in performance rather than in-game visuals.

    With patch version 1.04 installed, the PS4 version's constant 1080p output comes at a price. We catch dips between the 50-60fps lines during battles through Seoul's streets - with drops to the high 40s caught when throwing the 'threat' grenades to scan the area for enemies. Even in perfectly matched scenes, the Xbox One's performance tends to hold at a perfect 60fps by comparison.

    All in all, our initial test session of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's campaign on Xbox One shows an enormous improvement over the E3 demo we looked at a while back. Frame-rates hit the 60fps target with greater consistency while the 1360x1080 resolution marginally boosts the overall pixel rate compared to the 900p version we played recently at EGX 2014. Overall, the final game is a satisfying upgrade from the previous builds we've played on the Microsoft console.

    Up until now, the PlayStation 4 version remained an enigma. Running at 1080p, its presentation remains king of course, while Microsoft's hardware only occasionally shifts up to that resolution, typically in less demanding areas. However, the less consistent 50-60fps performance level on Sony's platform is a surprising state of affairs, and bearing in mind that frame-rate is king in Call of Duty, we're surprised that the dynamic scaling tech wasn't deployed on both platforms.

    Face-Off: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

    Surprisingly, the console versions rank closely next to the PC at max, but miss out on a few visual treats. Looking at the graphics settings, texture and normal map options are present, where the PS4 and Xbox One impressively match the highest extra setting PC has to offer.
    To state the facts on performance, the PS4 campaign mode drops at lowest to 46fps in our newest tests, but typically sticks between the 50-60fps lines when threatened with heavy alpha.
    The story is different in multiplayer. Here, both PS4 and Xbox One keep a keen grip on the 60fps line.
    However, the PS4 and Xbox One each share the highest quality textures, effects and geometry of the maxed-out PC version. They only fall noticeably short in three areas; the low-grade anisotropic filtering on textures, less accurate specular mapping for reflections, and opting for SSAO, rather than the PC's subtler HBAO+ shading around objects. Otherwise, you get the full deal, complete with subsurface scattering.
    Overall, the PS4's superior image quality compared with Xbox One makes it the choice pick on the multiplayer front, with both holding up here at 60fps. As for the campaign mode's playability, it's an apples and oranges contest between the Xbox One's performance lead and the PS4's resolution advantages, with little else in-between.

    The good news is that from a rendering perspective at least, Evolve demonstrates that CryEngine has got what it takes to compete as a state-of-the-art multi-platform engine. While we've seen the tech produce stunning results on Xbox One and PC, the Evolve alpha represents our first look at the middleware operating on PS4, and while there are clearly some optimisation issues to resolve, the technology acquits itself well, boding well for its utilisation on Deep Silver's upcoming new-gen Homefront.

    Digital Foundry vs Far Cry 4

    No performance anxiety here - Far Cry 4 delivers a rock-solid experience and showcases some intriguing new tech.
    PS4’s visual setup is easily comparable with 2012's Far Cry 3 on a PC's maximum settings, using very high resolution normal maps and an acceptable grade of anisotropic filtering.
