LittleBigPlanet takes a big amount of space: up to 40GB on Blu-ray
Although Sony never introduced it as such, many assumed the Network-friendly LittleBigPlanet would be a downloadable game. That notion is impossible, it appears, as a new interview with GI.biz reveals otherwise. Media Molecule's Alex Evans says that "a dual layer is 40GB, but we're filling up the Blu-ray. One of the things on there is we're having a lot of tutorial content - basically there are two paths through the game, the player's route and the creator's route."
The tutorial content will be extensive in LittleBigPlanet. "We're filling the Blu-ray up with is tutorials, and a lot of video stuff showing exactly how it's done, it's narrated by Stephen Fry and so on. It's really useful that thanks to Blu-ray we haven't needed to worry about file size, it's never crossed my mind." However, this doesn't mean the game will be bloated when sharing levels and creations on the web: "The game itself and the levels you produce are relatively compact."

SourceLittleBigPlanet designed for PS3, couldn't have made it for Xbox 360
Exclusives make the platform, as a lot of gamers would attest to, and LittleBigPlanet is set to be one of the PlayStation 3's greatest.
But with all these games being timed exclusives (FFXIII actually went cross-platform), can we be sure LittleBigPlanet would actually stay exclusive?
Yep. According to Media Molecule's Alex Evans, they couldn't have made the game for the Xbox 360. Why? According to Evans, the studio chose the PlayStation 3 as their platform from the get-go, and so they designed the game with the console's hardware in mind:
With LBP as it is, we couldn't have made it on the Xbox360 and the reason for that is actually because we designed it around the PS3's strengths.
In other words, if you're a game designer, from day one you know your platform, and you just cane it on that platform. You're not worrying about cross-platform, you're not worrying about anyone else's hardware design.
The PlayStation 3 was also ideal because every model has a hard drive, unlike the Xbox 360, whose Arcade model lacks one. Evans explains that without the hard drive, they would have had to scale the game down to accommodate the playerbase. In that case, the game could have been made for the Xbox 360, but not so big. LittleNotSoBigPlanet?
So what, the Xbox 360's chopped liver? Of course not. They just happened to choose a platform and stuck with it:
The 360 is an incredibly capable machine, and you could make a user-generated content game on it, no question - just as you could make one on the PS2 or the Megadrive, or any platform.
But because we picked our platform, you go and you use every available bit of space, every little processor cycle.

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/09/11/...official-news/LittleBigPlanet beta will possibly be announced on official news site
Posted Sep 11th 2008 8:00PM by Alan Tsang
Late last week, a community manager at the PlayStation.com forums indicated that there will be a "limited public beta" for LittleBigPlanet. He didn't tell us how we are going to get in, but we may now have a clue. We noticed that the above Google ad for LBP states the following:
"New Playstation 3 Game - LittleBigPlanet.us.PlayStation.com - LittleBigPlanet. Play. Create. Share. Sign up for the beta now!"
Where does the advertisement lead us? To the official LittleBigPlanet news site. We didn't see anything about signing up for the beta, but does this mean we'll be able to on the news site at some point? You know you'll hear about it from us as soon as anything is announced, so stay tuned!
As LiBiPl.com already found out, the latest issue of EGM and GamePro have our LittleBigPlanet print advertising in them. Keep and eye out for how these ads evolve in the next few months. And of course, since its Friday...

Here's your chance to dazzle us and our Marketing teamwith your own spin on LittleBigPlanet print advertising. We'd love to see what you guys would do within a magazine ad to talk to the millions of readers out there. We want to see it all...headlines, copy, feature highlights...the usual stuff when you open up your favorite magazine. So, pretend you have an unlimited budget, and design away. P.S. - don't feel locked down to 2 pages, go "big" or go "little" its up to you...

With little over a month until LittleBigPlanet hits store shelves, the SackBoys are “stuffed” with joy, because the fans have had so much fun the past few weeks. From Pre-order activity, LittleBigBillboards, LittleBigChallenge 003 (SackBoy costume contest) to tons of community activity on fansites everywhere, like Libipl.com & LittleBigPlanetGuide – it puts a big smile on SackBoys.
But how much do you really know about SackBoy? What type of environment do they live it? What can they do? What do they do? If these questions ever crossed your mind….”roll video”

Last week, the LittleBigPlanet Manual surfaced on the web. After reading everything twice, I learned a bunch of new details about LittleBigPlanet, and I want to share that with everyone.
- There will be lots of video tutorials in the game.
- You can tilt the SIXAXIS to shake your SackBoy’s head and hips.
- You have to complete 3 levels of the game before you can access the Create mode (My Moon).
- You have to find Prize Bubbles in the game to get new materials and objects to use in the Create mode.
- The available materials are: Glass, Metal, Sponge, Polystyrene, Cardboard and Rubber. Each has different properties.
- To create complex objects from smaller ones, you can combine them using Glue, Bolts, String, Rods, Springs, Elastic, Winch and Pistons.
- To add behavior to your objects you can use Emitters, Buttons and several kinds of Switches.
- You can use the PlayStation Eye camera to create your own stickers.
- You can share Object Plans (to be used within Create mode) with your friends, using a message system inside LBP.
- You can use templates if you dont want to start with a blank canvas

Download the LittleBigPlanet Manual
LittleBigPlanet’s manual was leaked on the internet, so we can take an early peek at what’s coming. Download the manual and enjoy it. This looks 100% like the real thing and not some kind of fake.
