PS3Center.net is doing their best to cover PAX 2008, with an interview with the managing producer of the big PS3 exclusive, LittleBigPlanet, Kyle Shubel. So what exactly did we learn about one of the most highly-anticipated game of 2008? A whole lot!
Kyle kicked off the interview stating that LittleBigPlanet is all about “play, create, and share,” and man he wasn’t kidding!
LittleBigPlanet is looking extremely polished and ready to be a true system-seller this upcoming holiday season for the Sony PS3.
Kyle did a great job showing the new character Sack Boy as he called him in the interview. He revealed a model of Earth basically, which the character can control. You can jump from continent to continent in the world, looking at the various levels inside of each one.
The level showcased was “Meerkat Bounce” and featured the character bouncing on what basically was a series of trampolines. This seemed quite fun as a mini-game, and highly accessible.
Things got quite interesting though once the red button in the level was hit, as the mini-game kicked off. The goal of it was to basically bounce and pick up points by popping bubbles and avoid obstacles. The more bubble you acquire, the more you will have to create levels.
Once you are able to create levels, you will have all of the same exact tools that the developers have to create levels in the game.
Kyle also stated that there is a co-op mode online and offline, for up to 4-players to compete in. You can play the levels you create, as well as the levels other people create.
Once you acquire your score, it goes online and you can check out how you compare to the rest of the world.
50 levels are confirmed to be included on the disc, with an infinite number of extra levels to be added in later by users, and by your own creation.
The last level was a user-created level called “Kyle’s Death Ramp,” which featured the character jumping on a low-rider and driving. Once you start to drive, you hit the ramp and jump over something on fire, and barely make it. A nice detail is seen with the trunk opening on impact.
One last ramp was attempted to be jumped over, and was barely completed. This was an example of a type of level that could be completed in just 6 or 7 minutes.
Vehicles are not the only thing you can add to levels, as you can add a variety of objects. Basically, your imagination is the only limit that you will have.
The character was thrown into a rocket car, which lit up and blasted away. It topped the first ramp, but ended up doing a flip and slamming into the wall.
The visuals look extremely polished with a great deal of detail throughout. If you ever had the dream of making your own levels and having a ball, LittleBigPlanet appears to be endless fun.
LittleBigPlanet is truly about “play, create, and share” and it appears to be a must-own on the PS3 this fall!
LittleBigPlanet will release on October 21st on the PS3 in the U.S.
