Just announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Capcom has revealed a new Strider game. The game will be developed by Double Helix (Killer Instinct) for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PS3, X360, and Steam on PC.
This version of Strider will be 2.5D, similar to Shadow Complex. It's a side-scrolling action adventure with 3D graphics and non-linear gameplay, or what people like to call it, "Metroidvania." It will feature a world map that will be accessible as players find new skills.
This is the story for the new Strider, according to the press release.
The year is Meio: 048, on an alternate dystopian future of Earth. The whole planet suffers under the oppressive, iron-fisted rule of the mysterious and omnipotent Grand Master Meio. An expert in sabotage and assassination, Hiryu is the youngest ever recruit to attain a Special A-Class in the hellish Strider training program, and is the only man capable of achieving the mission to eliminate Grand Master Meio.
Double Helix will be in collaboration with the original Strider developers from Capcom's Osaka offices to bring the franchise back into the gaming world. The developer ensures an "ultra-responsive control system, with incredibly satisfying combat options in every traversal context—standing, running, wall climbing, hanging, aerial and more."
