PlayStation Exec Says First-Party Game Lineup Was “Not As Strong” in 2015
Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, acknowledged that Sony have been focusing on third-party partnerships to promote PlayStation 4 during the end-of-year period.“Games that have been released this year, from Destiny, Call of Duty, Star Wars -- most of them we have a collaboration with for additional content if you play on PlayStation 4, so were pretty confident with the way Christmas is going. The demand is strong." Ephraim said.
He added: "We have worked very closely with third parties this year because our first party lineup was not as a strong as we would have liked."Horizon 2016.However, Ephraim was very optimistic about 2016: "Next year, our first party lineup looks incredible. Youve got Street Fighter, Uncharted 4, No Mans Sky, The Last Guardian, Gran Turismo. These are all exclusives, and two of them are new franchises."![]()

First-party developer
In the video game industry, a first-party developer is part of a company which manufactures a video game console and develops exclusively for it. First-party developers may use the name of the company itself (such as Nintendo), have a specific division name (such as Sony's Polyphony Digital) or have been an independent studio before being acquired by the console manufacturer (such as Rare or Naughty Dog).[6]Second-party developer
Second-party developer is a colloquial term used by gaming enthusiasts and media often used to describe two different types of game development studios:
- Independently owned studios who take development contracts from the platform holders and what they produce will usually be exclusive to that platform.
- Studios that are partially or wholly owned by the platform holder (also known as a subsidiary) and what they produce will usually be exclusive to that platform.
In reality, the resulting game is first party (since it is funded by the platform holder who usually owns the resulting IP), but the term helps to distinguish independent studios from those directly owned by the platform holder. These studios may have exclusive publishing agreements (or other business relationships) with the platform holder, while maintaining independence. Examples are Insomniac Games (which previously developed games solely for Sony's PlayStation platforms as an independent studio), ADK for SNK consoles,Rareware for Nintendo and later Microsoft, and Game Freak (which primarily develops the Nintendo-exclusive Pokmon game series).

Shuhei Yoshida: 2016 “Will Be Amazing” for Games; Promises More Features for PS4s System Software
Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida is one of the most visible among PlayStations executives, and he predicts a great year for the PS4, as he menyioned during a livestreamed Winter Special event in Tokyo hosted by the Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation. Yoshida-san mentioned that next year will be “amazing.” According to him there are so many games coming that its hard to find time to introduce them all. Its also difficult to decide which title to announce at which event, even because E3, Paris Games Week, Tokyo Game Show and PlayStation Experience are all handled by different people at the company. While Yoshida-san would like to always announce a variety of titles, the task is also made harder by shifting production times, that said, he likes to try to get the information out as much as possible, even to encourage the games development teams. He also mentioned that Japanese titles like Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, Rez Infinite, Ace Combat 7 and Final Fantasy VII Remake are gathering attention overseas, and theyre expected to sell well even out of Japan, which in turn provides a driving force to create games in Japan.
He followed by introducing the following titles for PS4 as the highlights of next year (even if the list is by no means complete), and a list of upcoming PlayStation VR titles (not explicitly limited to 2016).
Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End Dark Soul III Persona 5 NiOh Final Fantasy XV New Hot Shots Golf The Last Guardian Horizon: Zero Dawn Gravity Rush 2 Dreams (mentioned as “国内未定,” which means that the Japanese release window is still undecided) Incidentally, while it wasnt in the slide, he also mentioned Gran Turismo Sport. And heres the list of PlayStation VR: Ace Combat 7 Rez Infinite RIGS: Machine combat League Summer Lessons Sega feat. Hatsune Miku Project – VR Tech Demo Kitchen The London Heist Cyber Danganronpa VR The Playroom VR Driveclub.
Lastly, Yoshida-san promised that the PS4 will continue to evolve in the future, and that more and more new features will be introduced.
