A developer seems to have outed the PS4 Dualshock 4s touchpad as a display screen, likening it to “PC keyboards with LCD displays”.
PS4 controller touchpad to function as display?
Ex-Witcher dev Thomasz Gop, whos currently working on an action RPG called Lords Of The Fallen at City Interactive has apparently said:
“The most obvious thing are the elements that – for example, PC games sometimes took advantage of extra gamer-friendly keyboards with LCD displays. If Im not mistaken, the touchpad allows you to display things as well, so thats one of the things. Probably a lot of other people are going to be doing user-interface elements on it – its the thing that comes to mind first. I still dont know 100 per cent of what things are going to be implemented in [his game].
While Lords Of The Fallen so far has only been listed for a PS3 release in 2013, City Interactive CEO Marek Tyminski has said the game will be released on next-generation platforms in 2014. Obviously Gop could be mistaken on the pads screen so we will have to wait and see.
Could be a good PS4 reveal for E3.

The 2013 date is mentioned on inlays promoting the retailer's pre-order campaign, pictured above, which calls for customers to leave a 20 deposit to get in the queue for Sony's upcoming console.
A precise launch date for the console has yet to be announced by Sony, of course, but GAME's marketing offers the third clue from retailers that Sony is gearing up for a 2013 launch for PS4 across Europe.
Witcher 3 Dev: PS4 Is A High End PC, CD Projekt Happy With New Architecture
CD Projekt RED have always stayed true to their vision and this is clearly shown in their reluctance to release The Witcher 3 on current gen consoles and instead go for next-gen and PC. They are pleased with the PS4 as well, and quest designer Pawel Sasko revealed a lot more about the system to us in an exclusive interview.
“After the announcement of the PS4 many graphics programmers commented that Sonys upcoming console is a high-end PC and I agree with them,” he said.
“The change of architecture made a lot of developers happy, including us. From a technical standpoint, the biggest disadvantage of PCs is customizable hardware in almost infinite number of ways. Thats why working on PS4 gives us comfort that every gamer is going to have a quality time with The Witcher 3.”
He also revealed why they didnt show the game during the PS4 reveal event where the entire world was watching and could have proven to be a great marketing tool for the game.
“It was obvious for us that the reveal of new console was a great moment to show our game. But on the other hand, the most important thing about the whole event was PS4 and its features. As we expected, all the games and console itself drag out players attention from everything else,” he revealed.
“The Witcher 3 is our beloved child and we want the world to know how good the game will be. It might have been a bit too difficult to get the attention of all the gamers while so many good titles were being announced during Sonys press conference. So we chose to show the game separately.”

!The three "major modifications" Sony did to the architecture to support this vision are as follows, in Cerny's words:
"First, we added another bus to the GPU that allows it to read directly from system memory or write directly to system memory, bypassing its own L1 and L2 caches. As a result, if the data that's being passed back and forth between CPU and GPU is small, you don't have issues with synchronization between them anymore. And by small, I just mean small in next-gen terms. We can pass almost 20 gigabytes a second down that bus. That's not very small in todays terms -- its larger than the PCIe on most PCs!
"Next, to support the case where you want to use the GPU L2 cache simultaneously for both graphics processing and asynchronous compute, we have added a bit in the tags of the cache lines, we call it the 'volatile' bit. You can then selectively mark all accesses by compute as 'volatile,' and when it's time for compute to read from system memory, it can invalidate, selectively, the lines it uses in the L2. When it comes time to write back the results, it can write back selectively the lines that it uses. This innovation allows compute to use the GPU L2 cache and perform the required operations without significantly impacting the graphics operations going on at the same time -- in other words, it radically reduces the overhead of running compute and graphics together on the GPU."
Thirdly, said Cerny, "The original AMD GCN architecture allowed for one source of graphics commands, and two sources of compute commands. For PS4, weve worked with AMD to increase the limit to 64 sources of compute commands -- the idea is if you have some asynchronous compute you want to perform, you put commands in one of these 64 queues, and then there are multiple levels of arbitration in the hardware to determine what runs, how it runs, and when it runs, alongside the graphics that's in the system."
