CD Projekt RED In Trouble? The Witcher 3 Gameplay Designers Leave The Studio

Marek Ziemak (gameplay producer at CDPR) and Maciej Szczesnik (lead gameplay designer of The Witcher series) have left CD Projekt RED, something that has been confirmed by Szczesnik himself. These two fellas are joining an indie team 11 Bit Studios and it really puzzles us why they have left CDPR. Moreover, will this have any affect on the game itself? Will its gameplay mechanics change – or have already changed?
As Szczesnik said on a statement:
“I’ll be responsible for the entire design of a game that took shape in my imagination. It’s a really exciting feeling to create a new world from scratch, make its characters and rules and to know that I have this blank page to fill with my ideas and then bring them to life.”
CD Projekt RED has not commented yet on this story. Still, this could be – perhaps – a good thing. Let’s be optimistic for a change. If these guys have left CDPR and their work is done, it may mean that the game is approaching its final stage of development.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Hands-off Impressions; Potion System Detailed

I was extremely excited to be able to attend a live, 40 minute demonstration of the title by the studio’s Head of Marketing and PR, Michał Platkow-Gilewski, and QA Analyst Łukasz Babiel, both of whom also answered questions in an open-floor forum format following the conclusion of the demo.
The portion of this 100 hour epic (50 hours of side-quests, 50 hours of main quests) we were treated to takes place about halfway through the central plot. ‘The White Wolf’ has set off to meet an old friend named Crach, who is Jarl an Craite, part of the Skellige region – a rugged, wind-swept archipelago, the design of which was inspired by Norse and Celtic mythology.
    The sheer scale of the game world – 35 times larger than that of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings – is evident even in navigating the Jarl’s castle;
The world feels alive, organic and natural, to the point where weather changes actually affect people’s behaviours. For instance, if it is raining, villagers will run for shelter, and if it’s deathly cold, they will seek a source of warmth.
The new economic system in place sees merchants charge more for fish the further they are from the sea, for example. And if the fisherman providing said fish run out, they will set sail to catch some more.
Immediately noticeable is the increased speed, fluidity and responsiveness of the Geralt’s swordsman skills, which play out from a selection of 96 new animation sequences, from parries to stabs and slices. Sign usage is also faster, able to be utilised fluidly as an integral part of your offensive arsenal. Each of the five Signs now have a primary and secondary application, i.e., the Igni fire blast can be held to develop into a flamethrower.
“The potions will work in a different way than in The Witcher 2. So now you will prepare them, you will drink them before a fight, but you can release the effect of those whenever you want. So it’s not like you’ve drunk the potion and you have 30 seconds of boost and then it wears off. You can start the fight in the moment it suits you, and if the fight proves hard, you can just release the effect through your metabolism. But if the fight is easy, you can preserve that and use it in the next fight.”
Finally, they elucidated to us that the inventory will be akin to a decidedly more traditional, classic grid system, and the story will have a definitive end – ergo, you will not be able to continue past end-game and tie up loose ends

This Fall can't come soon enough.

Open world games = Best Value for Money!

^^Sure, gotta love open world games, ΑΛΛΑ.

The Witcher 3 Delayed Until February, 2015

Release Date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – An Open Letter

Ever since we started working on the third installment in The Witcher franchise, it has been our aim to produce a title that would take our 11 years of experience in creating RPGS and distill them into a quintessence, into a game that would effectively crown those years. At the same time, we have wanted The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to expand creative boundaries, set new benchmarks, develop the genre as a whole. Ultimately, you, the players, must get an unforgettable adventure to experience in a vast, open world – and that's most important. We've created a story that flows naturally, cinematically, rendered it in amazing sound and visuals, while preserving full freedom of choice – all for you. We knew this to be an ambitious plan, but believed we could achieve it by bringing together our team with its creative energies and current gaming platforms with their technical capabilities. A project this vast and complex would inevitably require special care in its final stages, manual fine-tuning of many details, thorough testing time and again.

We recently reexamined what we had achieved thus far, and faced a choice about the game's final release date. The decision we made was difficult, thoroughly considered, and ultimately clear and obvious. We could have released the game towards the end of this year as we had initially planned. Yet we concluded that a few additional months will let us achieve the quality that will satisfy us, the quality gamers expect from us. Consequently, we have set the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for February 2015.

Dear gamers - we know many of you would have liked to play The Witcher 3 sooner, as soon as possible, even. We're sorry to make you wait longer than you, or we, initially assumed you would. At the same time, we believe the game will prove to be worth the wait and meet the expectations you have of us. We believe The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be an exceptional RPG, one of the best, providing many hours of wonderful entertainment.

Dear shareholders – we are aware of the responsibility that rests with us and thank you for the trust you have granted us thus far. We firmly believe that quality – more than any other factor – determines a game's success, and that the decision we have made is thus equally valid in business terms.
