Structural changes mean Kaz Hirai will head both SCEI and SOE

Sony is announcing today that structural changes will be occurring within the company, effectively merging the Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Online Entertainment departments. (Sony Online Entertainment has been run by Sony Pictures.) While the two will remain largely separate Kaz Hirai, President of SCEI, will now be the head of both companies, with SOE President John Smedley reporting to him from April 1st onwards.
Both SOE and SCEI seem excited by the opportunities this brings, with Hirai stating that he is "excited to be able to work with SOE even more closely, as online games and services become a more integral part of the PS3 entertainment experience. This new structure will allow us to take full advantage of the extensive breadth of expertise of the two companies and increase our range of exciting entertainment offerings to our consumers." Smedley shares these sentiments, adding that he is "thrilled to become a part of the incredible team that has made PlayStation 3 the premier platform for next generation online gaming."
This all seems to make sense, considering how much energy SOE is putting into PS3 projects over the next frew years. We can't wait to finally starting seeing the fruits of their labor later this year.
Rumor: In game XMB not coming for a few months?
According to rumors in the PSM3 magazine, we are going to have to wait a few months to see in game XMB. The magazine also states that Sony may soon make a big announcement about Home, that will reveal achievements to “rival the Xbox live system”.
- A sequel for a popular Xbox 360 title will be received soon, and that it will be making its first appearance on the PS3, he also states this isnt Lost Planet.
- He also suggests that any big 2008 announcements which Sony has for the PS3 will not come in the form of new games, however there are surprises in store, and they will focus on firmware and the PS network side.
- Finally Ubisoft are apparently about to make some big announcements. Due to occur around the Ubi Days event this May in Paris. His tips include Alive, Assassins Creed 2 and Prince of Persia

But won't go in the record saying PS3 will outsell this year. Not concerned about Microsoft's exclusive GTA IV content. Says they will market it too and that it´s a Playstation franchise.

Schappert says people buy 360 for games. No funerals for HD-DVD. 7 of the top 10 games fit on DVD (wtf?). Won't go into detail about GTA IV episodic content. Ask Rockstar.

Mass Effect 2 may come to PS3
BioWare has stated that it expects the upcoming Mass Effect 2 to be exclusive to Microsofts Xbox 360 for “at least a short period of time,” prompting speculation that the highly anticipated sequel may eventually be headed to the PlayStation 3.
Speaking to website CVG, Matt Atwood, Senior Manager for BioWare, commented, "I believe we'll be Xbox 360 exclusive for at least a short period of time," adding, "We're still working out the details on that, but we've had a great relationship with Microsoft and done very well."
Electronic Arts recently acquired BioWare in January 2008, igniting widespread belief that the remainder of the popular Science Fiction trilogy would be going multiplatform at some point in the near future.
Despite this, Microsoft told IGN “We have no announcements on future Mass Effect projects at this time."
"Additional inquiries may be sent to Electronic Arts," the company added.

Blu-ray movie releases for the week of Mar. 16

So last week had a pretty good line-up with lots of different movies to choose from. This week, the choices are slim. There's only two movies this time around: I am Legend and Disney's Enchanted.
Both flicks are pretty good -- I am Legend especially. If you had picked up Independence Day and/or I, Robot from last week, then you could start a Will Smith marathon. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air next please!

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 makes its worldwide debut this week. Wait, really? That one snuck up on us, especially considering it's a sequel to a big hit of 2007. We would've thought there'd have been a little more coverage. Does that bode well for the title? No idea. This isn't a review! Here's the full release list:

Not a bad week all around, really. Europe has relatively few releases, compared to the other two territories. Fear not, however, this will be rectified next week when Europeans get a Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and Everybody's Golf World Tour double whammy. Condemned 2 finally gets its release this week in the US after its short delay. That's why you're seeing it hit the list for the second week in a row. We're not insane, honest.
Your PS3 is region free, so go ahead and import anything in the above list. Release dates are constantly in a state of flux, so be sure to check with your local store before heading out.
