Sony looks to a "very exciting" 2009

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) boss David Reeves has declared that the platform holder’s primary short-term goal for 2009 is turning a profit, adding that he expects the next 12 months to be a “very exciting” time for the PlayStation brand.

Speaking in an article on PlayStation.com, Reeves commented: “The most important thing for us as a company in the very short term is for us to start making money.”

“This is a pledge that was made last March and is something that we are still very much on target to achieve.”

“Once we have achieved this, I think it will be a very exciting time for PlayStation. Once we have alleviated that specific pressure, we can move forward at a rate of knots,” he added.

Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios’ Shuhei Yoshida also chipped in, affirming his belief that 2009 will be a crucial period for major PS3 exclusives.

“Just to name a few, the year will start with the much anticipated launch of Killzone 2, followed by a fresh, new take on the superhero/anti-hero open sandbox genre inFamous, a mind-bending thriller Heavy Rain, a massive 256 player simultaneous online shooter MAG, an augmented reality, virtual pet in your room experience EyePet, and some more big titles that we have not even announced yet,” he offered.

New PS3 exclusive to be revealed soon

As owners of the PlayStation 3, most of you are already familiar with the line-up of blockbuster exclusives slated for release during 2009. With the likes of God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain and Killzone 2 leading the way, what more could a gamer ask for, right? Well, according to Sony, it seems like a lot more.

According to a scan found within the Dutch OPM, Sony will be revealing a new exclusive within the coming weeks. Whether this is an entirely new IP, a remake from the past or a multiplatform game that just so happened to be snatched up for exclusivity is yet to be seen, but you can expect to find out shortly.

Speculation is floating around the Internet that this may be the mysterious Team ICO title that we've all been waiting for. Regardless of which ends up being the reality, the fact remains that Sony is about to add another exclusive title to its upcoming line-up. Needless to say, we're excited to find out what they have left to offer.

THQ announced today that 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand will be released in PAL territories on February 20, 2009.
A North American release will follow on February 24.
