New PlayStation 3 Console Gains FCC Approval

A new PlayStation 3 console was approved by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission last week, according to the agency's online filings database.
No information on the new model, number CECHL01, is available at present from the filing because Sony was granted short-term confidentiality on the papers but it is likely the 80G-byte version announced earlier this month during the E3 games show in Los Angeles. The console is due on sale in the next couple of months and will replace the current 40G-byte model.
Sony's filing to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission was made because the FCC is the radio regulator in the U.S. and as such all new products that use radio must be submitted to the organization for approval before they can be sold.
The PlayStation 3 includes both 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Prince of Persia Classic for the PlayStation Store?

On the Entertainment Software Rating Board website,‘Prince of Persia Classic’ is now an approved title for the the Xbox 360 & PlayStation 3. Prince of Persia Classic has already been out on Xbox Live for several months, so one would assume that the added PS3 listing means it’s coming for Sony’s platform soon.

Εν ολίγοις, μεγάλη πιθανότητα να παίξουμε το θρυλικό 2D Prince of Persia εν έτη 2008 (ή και 2009, ποιός ξέρει).

Ας ξυπνησουν ΕΠΙΤΕΛΟΥΣ εκει στη Sony και ας βαλουν κανενα ps1 classic, το ιαπωνικο store ειναι γεματο. Ιδιως καποιο rpg, τοσα διαμαντια ειχε η κονσολα. Δεν ειναι ΤΟΣΟ δυσκολο πια. Μαλλον αυτονοητο που προκλητικα αγνοουν, για ακομη μια φορα.

Βασικα φημη ειναι.... δεν νομιζω να ισχυσει στο τελος.Μου ακουγεται και εμενα πολυ κουλο.Αυτο ομως που ακουσα και με χαροποιησε ειναι οτι θα φερουν ισως το MGS (ps1) στο αμερικανικο store (για ευρωπαικο δεν ξερω).

Εχω χασει το link τωρα , θα το ψαξω αυριο και θα κανω edit.

Sony Gaming Sales Doubled For The Quarter

It's a fact - Sony are on the up. They have a very respectable line up of titles on the way, the price of the console has hit something resembling affordable (and more than cheap for the quality Blu-ray inside) , and the online services are shaping up to match the other offerings out there.

All of this has translated in better than expected sales, with the PS3 more than doubling its sales from the previous years third quarter. Sony Corp (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said on Tuesday it sold 1.56 million units of its PlayStation 3 game console in the April-June quarter, up from 700,000 units a year earlier.

The PSP keeps on keeping on, with gamers finding new ways to entertain themselves with a unit that has seem top shelf games drop off and movies all but dissapear. Sony reported for the handheld 3.72 million units sold of the PlayStation Portable handheld in the three months, compared with 2.13 million units a year earlier.

The sights are set high, but with the current lineup things are looking good for the Sony fans.
There will need to be a few though - 10 million units of the PS3 are penned in to be carried out of stores in the next year.

Hirai: Rivals can’t compete with PS3’s exclusives

Global PlayStation boss says first-party titles and Blu-Ray capacity set console apart from 360 and Wii



Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai believes that PS3’s “unrivalled” first-party product and Blu-Ray capabilities mean the console enjoys better exclusive content than either of its competitors' machines.

Addressing the issue of Microsoft’s investment in ‘exclusive’ downloadable content for titles such as GTA IV – and speaking after the much-publicised deal that made Final Fantasy XIII a 360 game – Hirai explained:

“On the exclusivity front – whether it’s downloadable or not – one of the unrivalled strengths we have, and we’ve proven this time and time again, is the power of our internal worldwide studios. Our first-party product is obviously platform exclusive and is the best out there.

"We’ve talked about a raft of great titles, whether that’s Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, SoCom, God Of War 3, Killzone 2, MaG, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.

"Secondly, if we talk about Blu-Ray, there’s a lot of capacity there. Our discussion with a lot of the publishers is about how the PS3 version of a game has the capacity to exclusive things consumers will be interested in – interviews with the makers of the game, documentary on the franchise or 'making of...' footage.

"That’s as well as additional weapons, levels, tools and characters. Those things very much differentiate our offerings over and above other versions of the same game.”

PS3 games gross top dollar for EA

Nobody saw this coming.

PS3 titles have been leading Electronic Arts' software sales by a considerable amount throughout 2008, earning EA more money than software on any other platform.

Between April and June 2008, PS3 sales were 969% greater than during the same period last year. PS3 games grossed a total of $139 million (USD) during the most recent quarter, while Xbox 360 titles earned only $81 million. Perhaps now the company's recent push to bring PS3 titles up to the same standard as their 360 counterparts can be explained.

With Madden 09 releasing during the next financial quarter, EA's 360 software sales may amend themselves somewhat. Still, these figures go to show that PS3 is a platform that can provide a hefty financial reward for any Xbox 360 studio debating heading multiplatform.

Rage Will Look Worse on 360 Due to Compression; Doom 4 and Rage Not Likely for Digital Distribution

id's post-apocalyptic open-world shooter Rage (PC, PS3, 360, Mac) will look worse on Xbox 360 due to the compression needed to fit the game's assets on two DVDs, programmer John Carmack revealed at tonight's QuakeCon keynote.
According to Carmack, the royalty fees to include a third disc in the Xbox 360 version would be so high that it simply isn't a feasible solution, with the programmer hoping for Microsoft to make a concession. He stressed that the issue is merely a storage problem and has nothing to do with the power of the Xbox 360 hardware, while adding that the PlayStation 3's Blu-ray format is Sony's one leg up on the competition.
Carmack also noted his belief that neither Doom 4 or Rage will be digitally distributed online, as id isn't looking into that sort of distribution for its major titles at this point.
