Sony dropping the price of their 40GB because Blu-Ray sales are high and production cost are low?!?!

Boston (dbTechno) - According to reports it seems that Sony is not very far away from dropping the price of the PS3 once again as many news sources are stating that it may not be very long before we see a $299 PS3 console.

The price drop which would bring the price of the PS3 down to $299 is expected to take place on January 28th, which would actually be just next Tuesday.
The news comes from postings at SlickDeals.net who specializes in posting latest price changes for hot electronic products.

They stated that a $299 price point for the PS3 is likely to take place on January 28th.
This place, SlickDeals, has been a reliable source for news lately as they posted news about the past two PS3 price drops as well as the Xbox 360 price drop just about before anyone else did.

This announcement comes as the Blu-ray format continues to pick up steam against the HD DVD format, and the PS3 also continues to pick up momentum.

It was just last week that it was revealed that costs to produce the PS3 are way down, so it would seem that this would be the perfect time for Sony to keep the momentum

Splinter Cell: Conviction PS3 dated?

The previously 360 and PC-only Splinter Cell Conviction is now also set for a simultaneous release on PS3, according major UK retailer GAME.

The site also pens the game to release on all three formats on April 1, despite previous announcements only stating a vague early 2008 release.

Ubisoft's Far Cry 2 may now be PS3 exclusive

Far Cry 2 is looking fantastic, and was due out in April for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

That may now not be the case though, with evidence pointing towards a PS3 exclusive release for the Ubisoft title. Whether or not this could be console exclusive, or perhaps just a timed exclusive is not yet known.

(UPDATED) RUMOR: Ninja Gaiden 2 cross platform?

The latest edition of EGM Magazine has hit the streets and scans have been circulating the that show Ninja Gaiden II, a supposed Xbox 360 exclusive, will be a cross platform title available for the Playstation 3.

is the long awaited sequel to Ninja Gaiden, which pits Ryu Hayabusa on the mission to avenge his clan and save the world. It is being developed by Team Ninja and published by Microsoft and Tecmo.

While this is in no way confirmation of the newest Ninja Gaiden title hitting the it does open the possibility. Be sure to check back for any updates as they become available.

An EGM editor has since issued a statement on website NeoGAF confirming that the 'PS3' listing was an error; the game is not coming to PS3 as far as the publication is aware of.

Confirmed: Splinter Cell: Conviction not coming to PS3

Ubisoft has confirmed to VideoGamer.com that Splinter Cell: Conviction, announced as a PC and Xbox 360 title, will not be coming to PS3 and will not be coming out on April 1, as previously rumoured.

Yesterday online reports suggested the game was set to appear on Sony's next-gen console - a rumour sparked by UK specialist retailer GAME, which listed the title on its website.

Confirmed: Far Cry 2 will not be PS3 exclusive

Ubisoft has confirmed to VideoGamer.com that upcoming FPS Far Cry 2 will not be a PS3 console exclusive, as previously rumoured.

Internet reports had suggested the Xbox 360 version of the game had been canned when website xbox360wire.co.uk noticed UK retailer GAME had removed it from its listings, leaving only the PS3 and PC versions.

The spokesperson said: "We announced Far Cry 2 initially for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and that's how it stands."

New blu-ray laser could cut PS3 costs further


What's better than a giant blue laser? A tiny blue laser, especially when we're referring to the laser slapped into the PlayStation 3 during manufacturing. A new blu-ray laser has been created that could significantly lower the cost of production as well as look a lot cooler than the fatty laser being used currently.

This is, of course, assuming Sony places the laser in the console. Who knows -- maybe Sony will stick the new laser into systems without saying anything. It'll help their bottom line and get our systems running more ... efficiently? Or a price cut and new SKU will get announced. It's anyone's guess.
