Australia: Year One PS3 Sales Eclipse PS2's By Tom Ivan Print | Send to a friend | Email the editor Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has announced that the PS3 commands an installed base of 238,000 units after its first year of availability in the country.According to the company, domestic PS3 sales have almost hit 240,000 units since the console’s March 2007 debut. In comparison Sony’s PS2 sold 146,000 units in its first 12 months on the market.

GameSpot reports that the figures came directly from Sony and not official industry sales monitor GfK Australia, which said previously that by the end of 2007 Sony had shifted 155,000 PS3s, compared to over 300,000 Wii (launched three months prior to PS3) units and 306,000 Xbox 360s (launched a year prior to PS3). The PS3 total offered by Sony may also include more than 28,000 consoles given away as part of a Sony Bravia LCD holiday promotion.

The company also attached a loose Q3 Australian release date to the upcoming PlayTV add-on.
