Japanese Hardware: PS3 Sales Nearly Double On Yakuza 4, Torne Launch
PlayStation 3 sales nearly doubled week-on-week in Japan to 50,164 for the week ended March 21, according to Media Create.
Thanks to the boost, the PS3 was able to outsell regular handheld chart-toppers PlayStation Portable as well as Nintendo's line of DS hardware.
The PS3's strong performance occurred the same week as the release of Sega's Japanese organize crime-themed game, Yakuza 4. Media Create reported that the game sold a hefty 384,000 units in its opening week.
In addition, this week saw the much-awaited release of the Torne, a device that turns the PS3 into a digital recorder. It is available in Japan as a standalone unit as well as bundled with a PS3.
PSP sales, including the PSP-3000 and PSP Go, stood at 39,508 units for the week, enough to capture the second slot. Combined sales of the DS line, which includes the DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL, were close behind at 38,974 units for the week.

μόνο στην αμερική αντιστέκεται το 360. και το psp πάντως μια χαρά πηγαίνει αν σκεφτούμε ότι πρόκειται για την 1η προσπάθεια της sony στο χώρο των φορητών

Ανεβαινει πολυ στο software το PS3 καλο αυτο.
Μερικά ακόμα ενδιαφέροντα στοιχεία που προκύπτουν από την ανάλυση του Gamasutra:
PlayStation 3 sales were down 20% relative to the rate established throughout January and February. Sony first mentioned in mid-February that it would have trouble supplying enough PS3 hardware in the “coming months”.
The timing of the announcement suggested to us that sales in February would be low, but in fact February sales were unexpectedly strong while it was March sales that showed a sharp decline.
According to comments made by GameStop's CEO, even they don't “have clarity” regarding the supply issues for Sony (or Nintendo).
Regardless, it is truly unfortunate for Sony that at the very moment when its software begins to shine it also has to explain away hardware numbers with vague comments on its supply chain.
