Pachter: PS3 will beat 360 with $299 price drop

The December NPD result were not particularly shocking: Xbox 360, a system which is half the price of the PS3, sold twice as many systems as the PS3. What if the PS3 were cheaper? GameDaily asked a number of analysts.
Michael Pachter, who has traditionally been the PS3's cheerleader, believes the system will actually outperform the Xbox 360 at a $299 price point. "Should they price at parity with Xbox 360 ($299), I think that PS3 sales would exceed 360 sales, and eventually, they could catch up." There's still a lot of time in this generation -- if PS3 sales improve, it wouldn't take too long to close the gap between the two systems.
Jesse Divinich also agrees that Sony could break out of its last place position, although he's less confident. "Sony has a legitimate chance at catching up to the Xbox 360 within the next 2 years, but in terms of overtaking the Xbox 360, that is not likely for some time."

Τι θετικό θες να ακούσεις; Έγραψα σε προηγούμενη σελίδα το παράπονό μου πως το Little Big Planet, που για μένα είναι άριστος τίτλος τεχνικά είχε μετριότατες πωλήσεις... δλδ ακόμα και στους τίτλους για τους οποίους πραγματικά βγάζω το καπέλο στη Sony, δεν υπάρχει ανταπόκριση από το κοινό.

Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has accused Sony of being “out of touch” in response to yesterday’s comments from Kazuo Hirai, in which the SCEI boss declared the Japanese electronics giant as the “official” industry leader.
Speaking with The Bitbag, Greenberg commented, "This sounds like an old hardware company that's comfortable with its market position," adding, "That complacent attitude is out of touch with where the industry and consumer is today."
"This generation won't be won over just hardware specs, but who can out-innovate when it comes to online and software. This is the kind of stuff that's in our DNA, and frankly moves the console war onto our home court,” he said.
Greenberg remained confident that the Xbox 360 will ultimately triumph over Sony’s black box this generation, suggesting that the PS3 wouldn’t be able to close the gap with Microsoft’s machine until 2014.
“I'm confident we will outsell the PS3 throughout the entire generation by providing more innovation and building the best and broadest games library while growing our entertainment experiences on the leading online network," said Greenberg.
"With a US install base lead now of more than 7 million units (according to NPD), I can't imagine any scenario where the PS3 can catch up with us. In fact, even if you doubled the current PS3 sales and Xbox 360 remained flat, they couldn't close the gap until 2014."

Going into December, the game had launch-to-date sales of only 356,000 units.
While it did not make the top 20, sales of LittleBigPlanet did rebound in the final month of 2008 to 255,000 units, bringing its LTD total to 611,000 units after three months. In a November interview on GamesIndustry.biz, head of Sony's public relations for the UK, David Wilson, expressed a belief that that "Sackboy hasn't even hit his stride yet" and that sales would pick up in December.
Resistance 2 is the sequel to Resistance: Fall of Man, Insomniac's alternate history shooter and a key launch title for the PlayStation 3 in November 2006.
After launching 385,000 units in November 2008, Resistance 2 sales fell 45 percent in December. Its LTD total now stands at 598,000 units.
For context, it is helpful to note that the original sold through 757,000 units in its first 13 months, but on a much smaller userbase and with fewer big-name titles for competition. It appears likely that Resistance 2 will surpass sales of Resistance: Fall of Man within the first few months of 2009.
Metal Gear Solid 4 Passes 1 Million
According to figures from the NPD Group, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has now sold over 1.076 million units since its launch in mid-June of 2008.
MGS4 was the PlayStation 3's first game to reach number one on the NPD Group's all-format monthly sales charts, with consumers purchasing nearly 775,000 copies of the game. It subsequently fell from the top 20 charts and has averaged around 50,000 units per month in the interim.
The figures shown here, however, are only for sales of the boxed versions of Metal Gear Solid 4. Total sales are likely much higher, since additional copies were sold to consumers in special PlayStation 3 hardware bundles.
Source.In mid-November, Eidos released the latest Lara Croft adventure game, Tomb Raider: Underworld, on three home consoles: Microsoft's Xbox 360, Sony's PlayStation 3, and Nintendo's Wii. Using a completely new engine and more fully utilizing the latest graphics capabilities of the latest consoles, Underworld was a key title in Eidos's year-end portfolio.
According to recent reports, the latest Tomb Raider did not perform up to expectations and Eidos shares lost 25 percent of their value when the company subsequently lowered its full fiscal year guidance.
Eidos had reported sales of 1.5 million copies worldwide. According to the NPD Group, the combined U.S. sales of the game across all three consoles totaled only 246,000 copies since launch.
The new entry in Ubisoft's Prince of Persia series also failed to chart after its launch in early December. Sales of the console versions -- on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 -- totaled only 483,000 copies. During 2007, Ubisoft's new property, Assassin's Creed, sold 1.87 million copies just on the Xbox 360, although it did launch more than two weeks earlier and benefited from the late November sales rush.
However, we can also say more about Prince of Persia and how well it sold on the two consoles. In particular, Prince of Persia was the fourth best-selling PS3 game in December, between LittleBigPlanet at number 3 and Resistance 2 at number 6. Since we know those two other games sold 255,000 and 213,000 units in December, respectively, we can say that the PS3 version of Prince of Persia had sales somewhere between those two figures.
Those numbers suggest that the two versions of Prince of Persia probably had sales within 30,000 units of each other, which is notable given that the installed base for the Xbox 360 is more than twice that of the PlayStation 3.

PS3 generates largest sales for UbiSoft
It seems this may becoming trend, as UbiSoft is reporting a similar story. So far for the fiscal year of 2008, 21% of the publisher's sales have come from the PS3. Of the three home consoles, that is the largest percent, with Microsoft's XBox 360 trailing at 20% and the Wii at 15%. This is quite a mix up from the 2007 fiscal year, where the 360 actually had the highest amount of sales out of all platforms at 25%.

Δεν καταλαβαινω,δεν καταλαβαινω,δεν καταλαβαινω ,η UbiSoft τωρα οπως και η ΕΑ λιγο καιρο πριν εχουν ανακοινωσει οτι το μεριδιο κερδων απο το PS3 ειναι μεγαλυτερο η λιγο μεγαλυτερο απο το 360,παρολαυτα, συμφωνα παντα με τα στοιχεια που μας δίνουν, το PS3 υπολείπεται αισθητα στις πωλησεις παιχνιδιων ας πουμε αυτων των δυο εταιριων.
Αρα τρια πραγματα μπορει να συμβαινουν:
α)Η UbiSoft και η ΕΑ λενε ψεματα
β)Site σαν το VG Chartz λενε ψεματα
γ)Η Microsoft χρεωνει παραπανω τις εταιριες παιχνιδιων.
