Quick stuff from interviews
-they made multi-release since they would have to cut stuff out if they made it in one game. The detail of the game will be so dense, and you will be able to go to various locations within Midgar that you couldn't go before.
-there will be some stuff that has to be cut, but there will be lots of stuff added. overall volume will be big
-They are working with various companies outside, including CC2
-The battle system is real-time, action feel. The degree of action will be "Dissidia > Kingdom Hearts> FF7 remake" It will be more tactical.
-Although it's action style, it has ATB as well.
-You can control other party members, but you can keep control one if you want
-3 party members at a time like the original
[...]
some stuff I didn't put in my first summary
-Character model is supervised by Visual Work's director.
-They don't want to go with 100% realism for the characters since it might make it hard to recognize certain characters. So they are going as real as possible, while keeping the character's personality.
-Advent Children model data is over 10 years old so they can't really use it.
-Everything from the trailer (excluding the stuff that was shown from E3 reveal) was real-time. The end scene where Cloud gets off the train, it transitions directly to the gameplay.
-Cloud looking sick is partly due to the lighting. Nojima likes that Cloud looks very sick.
-Cross-dressing is obviously in the game, but Nomura didn't design it yet.
-All the party member's design is renewed like Barret.
-At first they thought of going with AC design of Barret, but decided not to.
-ATB and Limit gauge is there but they are different from the original. ATB turning red is something important.
-Battle tempo will be similar to Dissidia. Battle is done by people who has experience in both Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts..

- About the details of splitting the game into episodes, please tell us more.
Kitase: From the beginning, we have considered it impossible to remake FF7 into one single game. Althought it's impossible to tell you the details about the splitting at the moment, please wait for our further announcement.
Nomura: If we tried to stuff the whole game into one release, some part of the game would have to appear as digests. We'd have to remove some contents from the game, and it would be difficult to add more to the game. Considering that a full remake of the original game must be achived, we have decided to split the game into episodes.
Kitase: Taking the No.8 street shown in the video this time, even just this is already highly dense. If we are to remake the content of the original version at that quality, it would have been impossible to do with a single release.
Splitting the original version into episode with nothing dropped, as well as adding complements, and remaking the game the game in its full volume is what we are thinking.
- How will the battle system look like?
Kitase: Unlike the encounter battles in the original version, we were aiming for a seamless active battle like shown in the video.
Nomura: Regarding the speed of the combat, as well as the sensation of tempo, we have considered something alongside Dissidia FF that you can play without stress. The degree of action would feel like Dissidia FF > KH > FF7 Remake.
We are trying to make a new action combat system that definitely demand no action technique, and let you consider your strategy during the combat.
- What would the elements in the battle system from the original version become?
Nomura: Since the game is based on FF7, elements like ATB gauge and limitbreak will appear but with new useage. Please wait for our further announcements on how they would evolve.
- Are you going to adjust the story in order to maintain connection to other compilations of the game, as well as adapting to the modern age?
Nomura: We are planning some mechanism to dig deeper into each episodes. Players who have played the original version surely would know everything from the beginning to the end of the game, including some very important moments. And we are planning to give even such users surprises.
Kitase: We are not going to remake a game so you only play for nostalgia. We want to make the hearts of the original fans pump. We are adjusting the storyline with this idea in mind.
Μιλάμε για open world game...
To βλεπω μπροστα μου.
Please insert episode 3 κτλ. κτλ.
Τώρα δηλαδή θα πηγαίνω μέχρι ένα σημείο και θα περιμένω να βγει το επόμενο επεισόδιο;;
Και όταν θα ξεκινάει το επεισόδιο θα γράφει previously on FFVII;;;

και
Β) Εφοσον θα ειναι το καθε part οσο ενα full sized game, μηπως λαου λαου μας πετανε το υπονοουμενο οτι καθε part θα κοστισει 60 € ;!;

UPDATE (12/7, 12:21pm): Although Square wouldn’t go into too many details—and they wouldn’t say how many episodes FFVII REMAKE will be—they did send over this statement:
It means instead of concluding in one entry, multiple entries are being considered in development. Each entry will have its own unique story. As a gaming experience, each entry will have the volume of content equal to a full-sized game.
https://youtu.be/CDpTN80PB2w
I got it. And I heard it’ll be multiple parts.
Kitase-san
Yes. The reason why we haven’t gave a go for VII remake is that it’s extremely hard to remake FFVII with the current technology, and to be honest, we hesitated. Remaking FFVII in HD without losing the original’s “density” requires more than one part.
Nomura-san
If we were to put it in one part, then we have to cut many parts and deliver it as a digest. Nobody wants that kind of game. Plus, users can explore many places in Midgar where they couldn’t in the original game. Once we decided to remake VII, we will develop those details and more. Of course we have to cut some parts from the original, but users can expect the VII world that only VII Remake can deliver. We estimate that, with the quality of those details, the volume of the game will be larger than the original after all. You may worry about the schedule, and we want to provide the game as soon as possible. Making it multiple parts is the line we drew to deliver the game.
It seems that it’s seamless when it comes to moving from a field to field or the battle. How about the battle system? Is it going to be like Kingdom Hearts (KH)? Or will be like Crisis Core FFVII?
Nomura-san
If I have to say, it’s an action based system. It’s completely different from Crisis Core. Not that strong in action such as in arcade Dissidia Final Fantasy or KH.
We may be busy since it’ll be action-based and the system will be renovated.
Nomura-san
We plan to make the tempo of the battle like the one in arcade Dissidia Final Fantasy. The one we released is just the base part. We’ve been developing the system not to make the battle flat as in just attacking the enemies. We’re thinking how to make it possible for users to have strategy while keeping it possible to switch characters. We’ve just summoned experts from Dissidia and KH series to deliver such battle system.

OK, I know that generally consumers don't really care about how game development works, but if you want to try to understand why they are going this way, I'll try my best.
1- Final Fantasy VII was a full game, they just needed to remake that.
Every remake means taking the original product and improve on areas not possible before. Anyone expecting this as a graphical/audio remake only would be disappointed no matter what. That would be a Remaster. Everything from aspect ratio, gameplay systems, storytelling mechanics, environment assets, locations and so much more were made for a 1997 game with limitations from that era.
Some of these limitations are responsible for specific features in a game. One of the best known cases is how Silent Hill's fog was created to hide pop-in, which was impossible to avoid. But that can go to generic examples which fit any title: divide locations to mask loading and avoid memory issues, camera positioning to hide weird visual glitches and so on.
So a remake is also an opportunity to improve on some of these limitations and also create something new and refreshing.
2- The data size can't be that much. They could fit it in a couple Blu-Ray discs.
FF VII has a lot of unique assets and locations. If you are curious, take the original or one of its ports and see how many unique assets you can find. They were able to do this in exchange of static rendered backgrounds and no voice acting, which are impossible to get away with in a modern AAA game.
3- Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy has content comparable with FF VII and their data sizes weren't as big.
This is a continuation of comment on the second question. It might be true or not (I'm not sure, I never played that trilogy), but from what I've seen, asset repetition is more common. Not that it's a bad thing. I'd say it's impossible to avoid that without going overbudget and getting massive delays. Remember, this is a remake, with fully 3D maps, NPCs and, of course, a bunch of new content. Add to that a fully voice-acted game (with localization) and unique assets everywhere and your costs go way up.
4- They will make me stop playing or cut parts to make it episodic.
They might. If they miss this opportunity. Here's the thing. Every developer I've talked to about this (no one from Square, I should mention) understood this decision. Game development costs today are simply obscene. You add that to a project which turned into a franchise of its own like Final Fantasy VII and they explode.
I see this as basically: make it episodic (or multi-part series, if that somehow means something different) or don't make it at all, because the costs are prohibitive.
And this is also an opportunity for designers and writers to do their job well. Maybe they will stop an episode/part at a scene some of you speculated. Maybe they will create something new to make it fit better. Maybe they will mess up. Maybe they will find the perfect spot to stop and still leave you to explore an area. It is feasible, to say the least.
Making it episodic/multi-part means being able to recoup costs to still have budget to continue the game in this case.
Now, maybe you don't agree it's a good decision. I won't discuss on that because I don't believe in changing opinions. If you don't think it can work, that's OK. I just hope I shed some light on the decision.http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost...postcount=2604

If anything, a big chunk of preproduction work (character designs, scenario/story work, etc.) are either already done or halfway there.
I'm just saying, if people want to justify a different release strategy because this will be expensive, shouldn't that mentality equally apply to something like XV or any other high end big JRPG these days? Or even any of the huge WRPGs like Fallout, Witcher, etc?
Well, a few reasons
FF7 in itself, first of all, just has a huge amount of variety that even today's games don't really go for, as the formula for big huge worlds has been streamlined a lot over the years. Mostly in FF7's case, it's the variety in locations, scope of the world, cinematics, amount of characters and dialogue and side-content. It's an incredibly expensive endeavour
Now it's not to say it's IMPOSSIBLE to make it all in one-release. Of course it is. But you did mention FF XV, which is also a pretty huge game as it seems. It's also taking 10 years to even come out, due to what happened internally in square during last generation as well as the sheer scope of the project which probably had to be reworked several times.
Fallout is big but Bethesda has had a "lego" aspect to their world since Oblivion/fallout 3. They have a LOT of reusable assets (lot's of their dungeons are just simply repeated) and while having big stories, they're presented in very simple ways. All of their framework is there to save money. Witcher 3 is huge and has a lot of unique content but still works in a fairly homogeneized, slightly less cinematic world with one character (and also the fact that it's made in Poland, a much less expensive country than Japan).
There is obviously a money reason behind the multi-part, but I think it would be selling the creators short in saying that there wasn't also a creative reason (keeping as much as the original) as well as caution. Nomura is coming out of a 10 year dev-cycle with FF XV (a money eater at this point), and Kingdom Hearts 3 is also being made now which is also a big money-eater, I would assume, due to the license. And well there's a bunch of other licenses. So i'm guessing it's a bit of column A, B and C as they looked at it and went "Well the only way we can decently do this without going mad and in another development cycle that is gonna overlap with the next console is to do it this way".
It's far from ideal, and who knows if they were in a different situation they could've pulled it off. But as "a solution" it kinda makes sense.
I'm just going with the notion since the beginning that yes, the game is going to be somewhat different from the original as it's almost a reimagining in a sense. As long as the content from the original is here and the encounters are here...It's mostly not "What will they cut" but if the things they'll replace them with will be equally as fun and impactful in some sense (of course doesn't mean I'd be okay with trashing everything but looking at it so far, that's far from being the case :p).
That's why I didn't really lose my shit when I saw the news. My real inquiry has and will always be the actual quality of the content and how faithful it is, and so far we still have little news about that.

Τι εννοείς;
Αν υποθέσουμε ότι αυτά που λένε δεν είναι PR talk και θα βγάλουν 2-3 full-sized παιχνίδια σε υψηλά επίπεδα ποιότητας, αυτό που λες είναι παράλογο. Σε κανένα studio στον κόσμο δεν θα γινόταν ποτέ αυτό. Θα ζήταγε κανείς 3 Uncharted/Mass Effect/Dragon Age σε 1 και θα τον έπαιρναν στα σοβαρά;
