UMBC, IBM team up to create Cell-based supercomputer - 32 Cell
And here we have another showing of the power of the PS3 CELL CPU. The PS3 has been used in a variety of other academia projects before and now a donation by IBM to the Univetsity of Baltimore County is enabling the respective institution to further developer its Multicore computational center thanks to it it utilizing THIRTY TWO CELL processors.

Playlogic Entertainment announced this morning that it has signed a global publishers licence for the PlayStation 3, which will allow it to publish games for the PS3 in all territories across the globe.
“This is really great news for our company” Comments Executive VP Rogier W. Smit. He continues, “It’s an industry given that SCEA is representative of the highest standard in game publishing. To be able to develop and publish for this incredibly powerful and versatile machine will give us the opportunity to deliver the best in videogame entertainment.”
CTO Dominique Morel says, “Receiving this publishing agreement is both an honor and a responsibility. We have already been working hard with our teams mastering the skills and tools that will allow us to unleash PLAYSTATION®3 system’s amazing abilities and unprecedented power. The confidence given by Sony to our publishing efforts is already a fabulous reward for Playlogic. We will work hard to justify this publisher license and provide our end-users with fantastic games”
Playlogic didn't reveal any plans for the titles that they'll be developing for the PS3, hopefully they'll release more about that in the near future.

September 28, 2007 - During this summer 2007, the international living rooms will have been as numerous as the advertisements will have been rare. If one were to give a progress report on the revelations resulting from E3 (July, in the USA), Games Convention (August, in Germany) and Tokyo Game Show (September, in Japan), not sure that there would be what to leap of his armchair. A new PSP Slim & Light, the exit of X360 Elite and the tariff fall of the other versions of X360, or advertisement of the pad Dual Shock 3 of the PS3, here is in substance the advertisements manufacturers. Without forgetting the interrogations around the supposed fall obviously - and waited - price of the PS3, which was simply concretized by the replacement in the USA of the pack 60GB (sold for the circumstance 500$) by a pack 80GB coming to replace old while beginning again until its price: the famous 600$ considered to be too high by considerable actors of the videoludic scene, to start with editors who hopelessly await a fall in the price of the PS3 to see their expensive productions being sold. Where it is understood that in spite of its puffing starting, the console of Sony unrelentingly makes up for its lost time on its Microsoft competitor, no matter what one thinks about it. Good moment to give a blow of accelerator before Christmas… via a fall of price?

If you still needed more confirmation about Sony's new PS3 model, which most believe will be a slimmed-down 40GB unit, this might be just what you need. Sony's Blu-raySavings.com lists the new model as a qualifier to receive five free Blu-ray movies once you've purchased the system.
Earlier this week, Sony spun us into a frenzy when an FCC filing was published detailing some features of the CECHG01 model. At this point, we're not too sure what Sony's waiting for as it keeps declining to comment on one of the worst-kept secrets of recent memory. Just go ahead and announce the thing already!

Μετά τις πρόσφατες φήμες σχετικά με ένα φθηνότερο PS3 με σκληρό δίσκο 40 GB και τη διάψευσή τους από τη Sony, ένα νέο εύρημα έρχεται να ρίξει και πάλι λάδι στη φωτιά. Σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα στο επίσημο site της Ομοσπονδιακής Επιτροπής Επικοινωνιών των ΗΠΑ (FCC), η Sony έχει υποβάλει ένα νέο, άγνωστης ταυτότητας προϊόν προς έλεγχο. Σύμφωνα με την αμερικανική νομοθεσία, κάθε νέα συσκευή η οποία έχει να κάνει με ασύρματη επικοινωνία πρέπει να ελέγχεται από την FCC και ακολούθως να βεβαιώνεται ότι ακολουθεί όλες τις νόμιμες προδιαγραφές.
Το νέο προϊόν, λοιπόν, φέρει τον κωδικό CECHG01, ο οποίος διαφέρει μόνο κατά ένα γράμμα από τον αντίστοιχο για το PS3 των 60 GB (CECHA01), καθώς και από αυτόν του μοντέλου των 80 GB (CECHB01). Επιπλέον, η καταχώρηση του FCC αναφέρει ως κατασκευαστή του προϊόντος μια θυγατρική της Asustek, της εταιρείας που έχει αναλάβει την κατασκευή του μοντέλου των 80 GB.
The New PlayStation 3: CECHG01 Model - A Few Unforementioned Details
Anyone who’s seen SponG’s report about the new PS3 model should already have been expecting all of this (Link: http://news.spong.com/article/13844?cb=814).
But after reading the report a few days ago, I have more details to report on the new PlayStation 3, as I’ve obtained an un-edited copy of the initial FCC (Federal Communication Commission) report (below with the original 60GB version of the PS3). Here are the things to note that’s not in the previous reports on this topic:
1. The new PS3 model uses less power than the other models. This one uses 3A (Power Measurement), while the older version use 3.3A and 3.2A respectively.
2. The new PS3 will include a brand-new controller, most likely the recently announced Dual-Shock 3 (this is proven in the document)
3. The new PS3’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth hardware has seen a significant upgrade, possibly allowing for longer distances and even faster connections.
4. I’ve heard dripplings of a 65nm chipset coming soon. Could this model be the very first in the line of quieter, less-power consuming PS3 models?
I’ve attached all of the images that I have below. But let’s get to the point… a 40GB PS3 for $399? Maybe. A new PS3 announced in the next two weeks? Count on it.
