Chart Track: GTA IV Obliterates UK Sales Records

According to a report on MCVUK on Chart Track's UK sell through figures, Grand Theft Auto IV sold over 609,000 copies in the UK on its first day of sales. The game sold 335,000 units on the Xbox 360, topping Halo 3 which sold 266,000 units on its first day. Sales on PS3 for GTAIV were 274,000 units day one, easily making GTAIV the top selling PS3 debut in the UK.
The previous record for an opening day debut was 501,000 units in the UK, held by Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
According to Vgchartz sell through data, Xbox 360 has sold 2.18 million units in the UK, while PS3 has sold 1.19 million units in the UK through April 19, 2008. That means the day one attach rate for PS3 is about 25% using figures through the 19th, while the attach rate for Xbox 360 is about 15% using figures through the 19th.

Ψιλοχαλια ειναι και οι δυο...μειωσεις στις τιμες, gta4, gt5p και παλι λιγα πραγματα
Εμ λογικό είναι, ο κόσμος βαρέθηκε, ο ανταγωνισμός πρέπει να παίζει στους τίτλους, όχι στα φορμάτ, δες Blu-Ray ας πούμε. Αν δεν επικρατήσει μια από τις δύο ξεκάθαρα δε θα δούμε και πολλά πράγματα. Όταν το PS2 είχε επικρατήσει, άρχισαν όλοι να βγάζουν τίτλους τον ένα καλύτερο από τον άλλο. Το είχα ξαναπεί, ο ανταγωνισμός στις κονσόλες πλέον δεν τραβάει, έγιναν σαν τα media formats, όταν ο άλλος γνωρίζει 3-4 καλά franchise, ή αγαπάει 2-3 εταιρείες ή genres δυσκολεύεται να αποφασίσει όταν βλέπει ότι με τη μία ή με την άλλη κάτι θα του λείπει. Λίγοι είμαστε οι τυχεροί που μπορούμε να τις έχουμε όλες τις κονσόλες.

Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 fired back to top ten sales at Amazon.com on Sun. following the release of Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV. The 40GB PS3 ranked as the No. 10 product in Amazon's Video Games division on Sun. after dropping out of top ten sales for several weeks.
Sony last week cited recent sales data from GameStop for the surge in PS3 sales during the GTA IV launch period.
Additionally, the company believes that strong loyalty to the Playstation brand is helping to drive consumers to the PS3.
Grand Theft Auto IV is the next chapter in the best-selling Grand Theft Auto franchise.
The title focuses on Niko Bellic, an Eastern European immigrant who travels to Liberty City.
NPD Group Inc. this month reported that the PS3 sold 257,120 units in Mar. U.S. sales to rank as the No. 5 video game hardware for the month.

GameSpot reports that the figures came directly from Sony and not official industry sales monitor GfK Australia, which said previously that by the end of 2007 Sony had shifted 155,000 PS3s, compared to over 300,000 Wii (launched three months prior to PS3) units and 306,000 Xbox 360s (launched a year prior to PS3). The PS3 total offered by Sony may also include more than 28,000 consoles given away as part of a Sony Bravia LCD holiday promotion.
The company also attached a loose Q3 Australian release date to the upcoming PlayTV add-on.
