Tony Hawks Proving Ground

This fall gamers will be able to command their skating destiny in Tony Hawk's Proving Ground from Activision, Inc. For the first time, players will have the freedom to define their character, story and style based on the choices they make, the paths they choose and the style of skating they use on the proving grounds from Philadelphia and Baltimore to Washington, D.C.

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground features deeper customization than ever before, including a Video Editor with full-featured editing tools and visual effects for creating "epic skate videos," and a fully customizable online Skate Lounge where players can skate with friends in the ultimate pad. In addition, players will have the freedom to skate from single player to online seamlessly, as well as utilize new gameplay mechanics such as skateable terrain altering and building, and Bowl Carving, delivering the most empowered skating experience ever. Tony Hawk's Proving Ground also features even more Nail the TrickT moves such as Nail the Grab and Nail the Manual intensifying the thrill of pulling off big tricks.

"Tony Hawk's Proving Ground drops players into the skateboarding world like never before," said Joel Jewett, president of Neversoft. "This is the largest, deepest and most compelling Tony Hawk game ever. You can skate the best lines, define your own style and produce your own videos. You can even take it further by tricking out your own Skate Lounge, where you can hang out and skate with others online. Proving Ground will throw you so deep into the lifestyle of skateboarding that you won't be able to get out. Hands down, it's the most exciting Tony Hawk title yet."

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground is in development by Neversoft for the Xbox 360 , PlayStation 3 , Wii , PlayStation 2, and Nintendo DS. The game is not yet rated by the ESRB and is scheduled for release later this year.

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground: New features revealed

Skate fans itching for Tony Hawk's Proving Ground definitely have something to be excited about, we've found new details about the upcoming title and it looks good indeed.

The focus this time is bringing yourself to stardom, as you can take videos of your skater self nailing down tricks up to 2 minutes in length, then edit it with a Video Editor that has most functions you'll need. If that's not enough for self gratification, you can add up to 3 effects per clip for more coolness points. You can also set up cameras anywhere in the world, take pictures of yourself (preferably while doing a 900 over a skyscraper) then show sponsors for major cash.

When you're satisfied with your videos, you can project them on the walls of your skate pad so other players online can watch them. In addition, there are over 10 themes and over 100 unique objects you can use to pimp out your skate pad. There's also a bigger version of HORSE to enhance your online experience, allowing 8 players to race to the trickspots they themselves picked.

Looks like we can expect more playtime, with over 290 goals to accomplish and 12 arcade machines that not only allows you to play minigames, but also classic modes from previous Tony Hawk's Pro Skater installments. The story will unfold through 83 cutscenes.

It's probably unfair to compare Tony Hawk's Proving Ground to the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater released on the dusty PlayStation, but there are some pretty interesting trivia. Apparently, you can fit 162 levels of the original in Proving Ground's entire memory budget. Also, skater models on this latest installment will have 20 times more memory than the old classic.

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground Preview από το IGN (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/811/811774p1.html?RSSwhen2007-08-09_100600&RSSid=811774)

Though E3 just passed us by and we had a chance to hit the rails during the show, Activision recently dropped by our offices to give us more hands-on time with the latest in its long-time skateboarding franchise, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. What we've seen of the game so far looks very solid - rather than going out and trying to mix things up with a crazy storyline or something of that sort, Proving Ground is similar to Project 8 in that its design goes back to the basics. There's an end goal to the game (to create your own skate brand/team), but the point is to simply skate and improve your skills.

So the big improvements in Proving Ground aren't extraneous storylines and such, but rather core features that tie directly into your skating repertoire and what you're able to do with it. For example, the Skate Lounge will be your showpiece of sorts. Something like a blank create-a-park warehouse, the Skate Lounge starts out as a clean slate, but as you work through the game and unlock items you can put them in your lounge anyway you'd like. Rather than being stuck on preset angles like the park creators were in previous Tony Hawk titles, you're given full control over how and where you position objects, allowing for much more customizability.

Again, the Skate Lounge is very much like a custom skate park, except that you're able to use it to show off your in-game achievements as well. For example, you can put a TV (or even ginormous project screen) in the Lounge and run any video you've unlocked or recorded on it for others to see. Once you have a place to skate, you can then invite your friends into your Lounge and fire up a multiplayer game inside your home away from home.

Now, speaking of running footage in the Lounge, we also got to see a bit more of the video editor in action. For years now, Tony Hawk fans have begged for the chance to put their best lines to film, and Proving Ground will let you do just that. After starting the recorder, you can skate about for a minute or so and then save the clip to a file. Opening up the video editor, you can then load any of your saved clips and edit them together. This means that you can create a full "best of" video at a number of different spots into one giant clip rather than editing only a single piece of video.

The editor looks surprisingly powerful and appears to be very similar to the likes of Premiere or Final Cut Pro. You load up your clips into a timeline and can then clip sections to highlight the best parts. You can copy segments and run them back-to-back, allowing you to show the same grind multiple times in a row from different camera angles for effect. For each segment, you can specify playback speed (for either fast-forward or slow-motion effects), camera types (like a fish-eye lens), color filters and more. There's a lot that you can do with the editor, and we expect gamers to spend hours perfecting their own highlight reel.

The game feels very refined at this point, and considering that it's built off of the tech we saw in Tony Hawk's Project 8 that was certainly not unexpected. We're looking forward to see everything that Neversoft has in store for the ninth game in the series, which ships to stores this October.
