Gpara has the result for the performance of PSP Slim & Lite (PSP-2000), which officially went on sale yesterday in Japan. Japan Buys Over 300,000 PSP Slims In Three Days (http://kotaku.com/gaming/only-in-japan/japan-buys-over-300000-psp-slims-in-three-days-303692.php)

http://kotaku.com/assets/resources/2007/09/tgspsp.jpg

And finally, the PSP (http://kotaku.com/gaming/psp/) shows signs of life! At least in Japan. And in direct contrast to our own, highly scientific findings (http://kotaku.com/gaming/poll/have-tgs-attendees-purchased-the-new-psp-302668.php). Enterbrain have announced that the PSP-2000 (http://kotaku.com/gaming/psp_2000/) has sold 250,702 units in its first three days on the market. Impressive, but more so when you consider that counts only the standalone units: another 75,943 Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core bundles were also shifted, giving us a total of 326,645. If you don't think there's money to be made in new colours and the 176th Final Fantasy game of 2007, you're kidding yourself.

Sony Release Official PSP Theme Creator

http://www.n4g.com/M/8/News/71000/71639_hs.jpg

Sony have released a PC program which lets you design and edit your own, user-created PSP themes. Icons, backgrounds, the works. It's free, it's in English, it's a small download and, best of all, it's in English. All you need to do is substitute the existing icons with your own, and you're good to go.

PSP Slim Hits Half a Million in Japan (http://psp.ign.com/articles/824/824950p1.html)
Sony happily reports reaching the milestone in just two weeks

UK, October 4, 2007 - Sony is boasting about the fact that only two weeks after the PlayStation Portable Slim and Lite went on sale in Japan, 500,000 units have already been sold.

Erm... and that's the news, really. But, just in case you've been too drunk to remember anything over the past fortnight, the Slim and Lite is the remodelled version of the PSP, which is 33% lighter, 19% slimmer and offers reduced loading times for games.

Gran Turismo Mobile back in the works (again) (http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.pspfanboy.com/media/2007/10/gamepropspgtmock.jpg)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.pspfanboy.com/media/2007/10/gamepropspgtmock.jpg

It was one of the first PSP games to ever be shown. Then, it was canceled. Then, it was resurrected. Then, it mysterious disappeared, hidden away under the shadow of the colossal Gran Turismo 5. Finally, things look a bit brighter for mobile racing fans. "We are working on the PSP version, and we will get around to it eventually," GT producer Yamauchi told GamePro.

The plan is to finish the game right after the release of Gran Turismo 5 next year. Although we'd love to believe you, Yamauchi, we're going to place some skepticism on your statement. Place your bets now to see how many times this game will get canceled, and uncanceled in the coming months.

PSP Slim and Lite continues dominance in Japan

Weekly sales of Sony’s PlayStation Portable in Japan have continued to maintain a hold over competing consoles for the period September 24 - 30, despite an overall drop in 175,000 units sold from the previous week.

As previously documented, sales of the handheld skyrocketed on the strength of the new Slim and Lite model, which launched September 20. Numbers were also boosted by the aid of a special limited edition version marking the release the PSP-exclusive, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, which launched a week earlier.

Come December, a limited edition Star Ocean PSP-2000 will be available, launching simultaneously with Star Ocean: The First Departure. Sony lays out its plans for the PSP Store (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/10/09/sony-lays-out-its-plans-for-the-psp-store/)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.pspfanboy.com/media/2007/10/psstore.jpg

GI.biz has managed to wangle a host of new details about the PSP store. We know it's currently available in Japan and has been since TGS, but what about the English speaking world? And what can we expect to find on it? The US version of the store will be unveiled this winter on PC and at some point in 2008 on the PSP. The PC version allows you to download straight to your PSP via a USB cable, while the PSP version will be accessible directly on the handheld via any wireless access point.

Sony has also revealed that seven download-only games are in production for the service during 2008. These include three action games, two rhythm games, a racing title and a shooting game. All of these games are being developed in-house by Sony, though there are talks of getting third-party publishers involved. Other content which will be available throughout 2008 will include video content such as trailers and behind the scenes clips, downloadable content for UMD games, demos and PS1 games. Thirteen PS1 games will be made available throughout 2008, all of which are currently available on the PS3 Store. Presumably these games will be from the Japanese PlayStation Store as the European and American stores have considerably less than 13 available currently.

There is currently no word on a European release date but chances are the American store will be accessible from European territories (and it'll probably be updated more often, too), so no worries there.

But, the ESRB has already rated a game named Portable Ops Plus -- surely, this can't be a different game! Is this a mistake, or is MGS getting a title change for the US?

Here's a juicy rumor to ponder. Gamelabo is reporting that Square Enix is working on a PSP version of Dragon Quest IX. The RPG is currently a DS exclusive, but according to this short snippet, encouraging sales of the PSP have made Square Enix consider multi-platform development. This is far from confirmed, but if this comes to fruition, it'll certainly be a huge win for PSP owners.

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of November 4 (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/11/04/worldwide-psp-releases-for-the-week-of-nov-4/)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.pspfanboy.com/media/2007/11/silenthillorigins.jpg

We're sure this is going to be a great week for PSP owners due to the release of several highly anticipated titles, including Silent Hill Origins and SOCOM: Tactical Strike, which Andrew gave a 9.5 and said was an easy candidate for the PSP's game of the year.

US Games

* Silent Hill Origins
* SOCOM: Tactical Strike
* The Simpsons Game
* World Series of Poker 2008: Battle for the Bracelets

EU Games

* Ben 10: Protector of Earth
* WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw 2008

Asia Games

* Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
* Minna no Golf Ba Vol. 4
* Namco Museum Vol. 2
* NBA Live 08
* Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology
* Xyanide Resurrection

While there isn't a lot being released this week in Europe, Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 should be entertaining, and now Japan finally gets Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles, so they should be happy. Overall, this is a much better week than last week.

PSP sales up 120% due to redesign (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/11/16/psp-sales-up-120-due-to-re-release/)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.pspfanboy.com/media/2007/10/whitepsplite.jpg

The PSP's redesign has revived Sony's flagship portable, much like Nintendo's redesigned DS Lite did. According to SCEA: "The PSP sold 286K units at retail for the month of October. Overall sales of the PSP are up 120% year over year due to the popularity of the slimmer and lighter PSP, which includes video-out capabilities for $169."

Of course, the hardware isn't the only reason why the system is doing so well. The "PSP has no games" argument has been banished to only the most oblivious of internet forum lurkers. As Sony notes, "With 24 first and third-party software titles being released this holiday season, such as SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of The Lions, as well as new spots for the wildly popular "Dude, get your own" campaign, the PSP will undoubtedly continue to gain momentum through the coming months."

We love seeing the PSP doing well -- being a PSP fan has never been as cool as it is now.

PSP-2000 sells 1 million units in Japan (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/11/26/psp-2000-sells-1-million-units-in-japan/)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.pspfanboy.com/media/2007/09/psp-silver.jpg

After only two months on the market, the PSP-2000 has sold a million units in Japan as of Nov. 22, Sony announced. What makes it more impressive is it reached the milestone two weeks faster than the original PSP when it launched in December 2004.

"Along with the ever greater sales of the PSP system, more and more software titles are released, with more than 500 software titles available in Japan alone," Sony said in its release. "Looking forward, many more titles in various genres are scheduled to be released this holiday season from third party game developers and publishers, as well as SCE Worldwide Studios Japan Studio titles. The new slim and light PSP offers more convenience in portability and more choice in colors to match users' lifestyle."

Hitting this number so quickly isn't entirely surprising considering that the PSP-2000 sold 500,000 in just two weeks after its launch and has been in the top hardware spot in the weekly hardware sales charts several times, as well. It will be interesting, however, to see how long it takes Sony's newest version of the PSP to hit that mark in the other two regions.

November NPD sales reveal 100% sales increase (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/12/14/november-npd-sales-reveal-100-sales-increase/)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.pspfanboy.com/media/2007/12/psp_lite_box_1.jpg

According to new NPD figures released by SCEA, PSP is continuing the momentum from the introduction of the lighter, slimmer PSP-2000 systems. In November, 567,000 PSP hardware units were sold -- nearly a 100% increase over last month sales.

Combined with notably improved sales of both the PS2 and PS3 last month, and it's clear that Sony's faring quite well with their three pillar approach to gaming. While PSP hardware sales continue to buzz, we're still wondering: where are the software sales? Even the PS3 managed to get two titles to the top 10 sales charts. With a number of fantastic PSP games released this holiday season, one wonders why people aren't buying games for their newly purchased handheld.

PSP sales mysteriously double in Japan (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/12/21/psp-sales-mysteriously-double-in-japan/)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.pspfanboy.com/media/2007/12/japncowd.jpg

We're happy for the PSP's newfound success in Japan. In fact, last week it sold 184,610 systems in Japan alone. That's more than double of last week's numbers! (That's actually more than any other system, minus the DS.)

But what could possibly have caused the sales increase? Could it have been Minna no Golf Portable 2? Only three games for the system made the top 50 charts this week, so it couldn't have been that. Perhaps it was firmware update 3.80 and its ability to record 1seg TV shows? It actually might just be that ...

Rumor: Sony talking Skype for PSP at CES next week (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/02/rumor-sony-talking-skype-for-psp-at-ces-next-week/)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/psp-skype-ces.png (http://www.sony.com/ces/index.html)

Rumors, in the form of a decrypted firmware, cropped up last February regarding Skype on the PSP. In August, at the Leipzig Games Conference, Sony officially unveiled Go! Messenger – the newly branded suite of VoIP tools by British telecommunications giant, BT – which is due this month. On Sony's event page for CES 2008, the massive consumer electronics expo kicking off in Las Vegas this weekend, they list a curious feature for their handheld: "Call friends, talk trash to fellow gamers or catch up with acquaintances via Skype for PSP system." (Click on the controller and then on the PSP to bring up a list of the features, as seen above).

Could Sony finally show off the long-anticipated VoIP platform? And why isn't it using the Go! Messenger branding? And why are we asking so many questions? We can't be sure, but we've asked Sony to comment on their webpage.Πηγή: http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/02/rumor-sony-talking-skype-for-psp-at-ces-next-week/

Το Dragon’s Lair στο PSP (http://www.gameover.gr/default.php?pid=6&cat_id=11&cat=PSP&art_id=4291)

http://www.gameover.gr/photos/Dragons_Lair_News_Image.jpg

Sony plans tiny games for PSP Store (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=90454)

Sony hopes to stock the PSP Store with "bite-size" new downloadable games and old PSP games that retailers aren't bothering with any more.
That's according to senior product manager John Koller, speaking to Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/343429/sony-to-bring-bite+sized-psp-games-to-playstation-store), who said that there is an "opportunity" to do "ten-minute, pick-up-and-play" downloads.
He also said that downloadable PSP games - so far we've seen the likes of WipEout Pure and B-Boy - would be ones that are in demand from PSP owners but that retailers have given up on - "titles like WipEout, Twisted Metal".
Sony is certainly not giving up on the PSP just because the DS is doing a bit well. Indeed, Sony Europe president David Reeves told us in August (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=81949&page=2) that PlayStation Network could also act as a feeder service for PSP, and already we're seeing PSone games released on both PSP and PS3.
Plus of could we have the Remote Play option, which regularly grows in scope. At this point you can get it to turn on your PS3 remotely, stream certain content and even dry your jeans if you have to walk to work in the rain.
Kotaku also reports that he mentioned cheaper UMD movies. I don't about you, but that's not why I'm not buying any.

Gran Turismo 4 Mobile Cancelled? (http://www.n4g.com/psp/News-99194.aspx)

Sony announced way back in 2004 it was prepping a PSP version of Gran Turismo 4 for on-the-go racing. It was supposed to be an "exact replica" of the PlayStation 2 game. But we haven't received an update on the title since mid-2006, when series producer Kazunori Yamauchi told Famitsu that it was still on the way (http://psp.ign.com/articles/735/735035p1.html).

It looks like Gran Turismo 4 Mobile (http://psp.ign.com/objects/682/682963.html) may not ever cross the finish line, though, as an IGN staff member just received a call from GameStop bearing bad news. The retailer says pre-orders of the game have been cancelled -- because the game has been cancelled. By the vendor, apparently.

As of this writing, Sony representatives could not be reached for comment. If the news is true we can't say we're entirely surprised. Four years is a long time for a direct port to be in development, and two years is an eternity to go without a status update.

DivX on PSP as part of firmware 4.0

http://i3.tinypic.com/8an5o1u.jpg

Seems our little friend the PSP will soon be getting DivX Certification to allow for the downloading of movies and TV shows through the PC store, transferred from PS3 and from selected third party online retailers (psst...starts with G and ends with le).

DivX for PSP should be released within two months and be included with the 4.0 firmware update.

NPD: PSP sales up 38% from last year (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/03/14/npd-psp-sales-up-38-from-last-year/)

February's NPD figures were released last night, and it looks like Sony's handheld has done respectably well. PS sold through 243,115 PSP hardware units in February. Sony reminds us that this represents a "year-over-year increase of 38%."

Once again, it shows the lasting sales effects of the redesigned PSP. Since the introduction of the PSP-2000, Sony's handheld has been performing remarkably well. Add to that the launch of Patapon and Wipeout Pulse and it should be no surprise that PSP sales were strong in February.

As good as February's numbers were, we can't wait to see March's figures. With the release of both God of War: Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII on the handheld, we're bound to see a significant bump in hardware sales.

Sony: PSP Getting 'A Lot of Very Strong Titles' in late 2008 ; PSP Turns 3

"A lot of very strong PSP titles are coming in late 2008," said John Koller, SCEA senior marketing manager, in an interview with GamePro.

Outside of Final Fantasy: Crisis Core, Secret Agent Clank, and a lineup of additional sports games, Koller said he didn't want to "scoop" anything, but that some "very unique" titles are coming later this year, with a focus on "franchise umbrellas."

In terms of downloadable games a la the PS3 and others, Koller said consumer education will be a hurdle in the coming months because the PSP store is still in its infancy. "The Store will be very, very important for Sony and for the PSP's future," he said, including both PS1 and PS2 re-releases.

Koller also mentioned that upcoming PSP peripherals will include a keyboard (for internet browsing), camera, and North American version of the GPS add-on planned for release this fall.

To date, Sony has sold more than 31 million PSP systems worldwide. By comparison, Nintendo has sold more than 65 million global DS units.Πηγή: http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=171408

Sony: Devs now seeing key to PSP success

Τhe PSP has been out since 2005, but developers are only now beginning to realise what makes a good game for PSP, admits the PSP marketing boss.

Talking of the recent good fortunes for PSP, Sony's John Koller said: "developers and publishers are now just starting to see what the keys to success are on the PSP.

"It's not like the console world at all, and it's something we've been preaching for a while," he added, pointing to key franchises such as God of War and Daxter appearing on the handheld in unique, handheld-specific incarnations.

The key is "making a unique game under that umbrella and making it creative and have it be something that you can't play on console," explained Koller.

"One thing we've noticed is that about 1 in 2, about 50% of consumers, are using the PSP at home. And if they are then... they don't want to buy the same console game that they play on a handheld.

"So, to avoid that kind of competitive play, a lot of developers and publishers are starting to say, 'all right, maybe it's time we start making games that are unique to that system under a strong umbrella'."

Koller also teased about a number of "key" and "expansionary" PSP announcements to come soon. "We have a number of key announcements that'll be made in the next few months that'll be kind of expansionary in what the PSP can do."

PSP outsells every other console combined in Japan (http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/PSP/Monster+Hunter+Portable+2nd+G/news.asp?c=6334)

Today, chart data from Famitsu based on software and console sales for last week (March 24-30th) shows what sort of impact Monster Hunter 2nd Portable G has had on console sales in Japan.

Last week PSP actually managed to sell more units than all of its competitor consoles put together. The handheld sold approximately 139,000 units, compared to (rounded up or down) 57,000 DSs, 49,000 Wiis, 13,000 PS3s and 2,800 Xbox 360s.

We recently learned that the PSP would stick around for another seven years in a continued lifecycle (http://www.psxextreme.com/psp-news/1199.html), which means the snazzy handheld should go through several more incarnations before all is said and done. Hence, the PSP-3000 is on everyone's lips; the rumor is spreading like wildfire throughout the Internet.

We have no doubt another PSP is on the way, but there is no official information as of yet, so all of the following is nothing more than speculation. However, we're willing to bet that at least one - if not more - of the discussed features will be featured in the new PSP, and they're all intriguing. For example, the new handheld design could boast dual analog sticks, which is a very popular rumor and one that is connected to PS2 and PS1 software. If you see analog sticks, publishers may have a field day delivering those old games to the PSP, right? We've also heard plenty involving Bluetooth technology, touch screen, and integrated GPS. The touch screen idea actually isn't new; this rumor appeared towards the end of last year.

We may also see more RAM, rumble coming with the dual analog sticks, an HDMI port and our personal favorite, PS2 emulation. Can you imagine if that became a feature for the PSP? It seems a little illogical - and in some respects, almost impossible - but it's still fun to hope. We'll let you know whenever Sony issues anything official regarding a new PSP model, that's for sure.Πηγή: http://www.psxextreme.com/psp-news/1205.html

PSP continues incredible Japanese sales momentum (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/04/09/psp-continues-incredible-japanese-sales-momentum/)

Remember how PSP outsold every system combined last week in Japan? Well, it didn't managed to pull off that feat again, but PSP still had an incredible week in Japan. The numbers should more than do the talking:

* PSP - 113,000
* DS - 52,000
* Wii - 46,000
* PS3 - 11,000
* PS2 - 10,000
* 360 - 2,300

Seems like PSP is the new DS, no? At least in terms of Japanese hardware sales. Let's see if this post-Monster Hunter sales boom can continue.

Οι υπόλοιπες θέσεις του τοπ 10 συμπληρώνονται από γνωστές και άγνωστες κυκλοφορίες (Wii Fit, Pokemon Rangers, We ‘re Fossil Diggers, Musou Orochi, κ.τ.λ.).

Interest in PSP is returning, says Infected dev (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/05/09/interest-in-psp-is-returning-says-infected-dev/)

Planet Moon has been a strong supporter of PSP, dedicating itself to the creation of exclusives on Sony's handheld. Their titles, Infected and After Burner, tried new things on the handheld, but neither title found the success that they were looking for. "We're very proud of them. We wish they'd found a bigger audience, but I think most people who've made PSP games wish that in retrospect," Planet Moon's Aaron Loeb told Gamasutra.

Sluggish software sales for (relatively) expensive games forced Planet Moon to abandon PSP development, just like many other developers. While they're currently working on Wii games, they do note that PSP may experience a resurrection of sorts. "Interest in the PSP is definitely coming back among the publishers, though. That little puppy just keeps on selling!"

We're certain that many publishers were caught off-guard by the sales resurgence of PSP, after the introduction of the redesigned PSP-2000 and big-name releases, such as God of War and Crisis Core. However, games do take quite a time to create -- it may be a while before we're able to reap the fruits of any new PSP development.

Nnooo may have the answer for Pokemon fans looking for more: an MMO being pitched to the folk at Nintendo.

The developer’s of WiiWare game Pop are keen on producing an massively multiplayer online game for the Pokemon series, and according to their licences page (http://nnooo.com/games/licenses.html) the company are pitching their ideas.

A Pokemon MMO would involve a huge world for players to roam about in simulatenously, co-operate and complete - being able to see and communicate with real human players.

Would a smaller developer be able to take on such a big project? Would this hopefully inspire Nintendo to take the series further themselves?

New MGS game for PSP! (rumour) (http://starsniper.boom.ru/preview/39526/metalgear3/index.html)

A well-known russian site posted information about a new PSP metal gear title to be unveiled at E3 by KONAMI yesterday:

The game is titled METAL GEAR 3: REVOLVER OCELOT and it takes place between MGS: PORTABLE OPS and METAL GEAR 2: SOLID SNAKE. It will feature some scenes from the original METAL GEAR.

The game uses a recruitment system similar to MGS:smileytongue:O and the main character is REVOLVER OCELOT, looking similar to both MGS3 and MGS1 .BIG BOSS is not a playable character, but appears sometimes during the cutscenes supervising the construction of outer heaven.

No more info was revealed but i am sure we'll hear more at E3

Firmware 4.00 brings Google to the XMB (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/06/16/firmware-4-00-brings-google-to-the-xmb/)

Another PSP firmware update looks set to go live "soon" and, as usual, Eric Lempel has posted the details on the PlayStation.Blog. Firmware version 4.00 adds Google functionality to the XMB, meaning you don't have to deal with the web browser if you're interested in doing a bit of spontaneous web-searching. The Google function will retain a history of your last 20 searches.

4.00 also adds the ability to change the speed of video playback on your PSP, essentially adding a fast-forward function. You can also slow down your videos to watch them in slow motion, if you're that way inclined. Despite this being a X.00 update, there is no megaton announcement here. No kitten spawners or in-game ExEmBees to be found. Still, Google's pretty cool, right?

Sony backing PSP for ten years

Posted on June 25th, 2008 at 04:55 EDT
Sony has revealed its intention to revitalize the development community for its PlayStation Portable console, with plans to back the handheld gaming system for the next ten years.

Speaking with Pocket Gamer, Sony Europe’s Vice President of Publisher and Developer Relations, Zeno Colaco, commented: “We definitely have the ambition for it to feature very strongly in the future, both on its own and also complimentary to PlayStation Network environment and the PS3.”

“But we'll have to wait a while before we can fully reveal the direction we're going in. Ten years is certainly the long-term plan though.”

“We need to revitalise the developer community to get behind PSP,” said Colaco.

“For example, it's easy to make a DS-type game for a PSP game in terms of cost and speed of development and we will be looking to do encourage that as we continue to develop the PSP. I'm not just talking about the hardware but the services and the business models and the support, too.”

“Our sales for PSP is over 37 million units, which is huge, particularly when you take into account the level of third-party sales there are for PSP compared to DS.”

“So from my perspective, what's important is we continue to tell publishers and developers that there's an opportunity to make money on PSP, which is something that will become apparent over the next two years as the network services are developed.”

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 announced (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/07/02/tales-of-the-world-radiant-mythology-2-announced/)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.pspfanboy.com/media/2008/07/tales_of_yuri_0001.jpg

Surprise, surprise -- a Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 has been announced in Japan. We were pleasantly surprised to see in this week's issue of Shonen Jump details on another Radiant Mythology game. Details are scarce at this point, but like the previous Tales of the World games, it is a crossover title with characters from different Tales games. The character count is reportedly over 50, more than double the less than 20 characters of the first game. Even the formerly exclusive Xbox 360 character Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia is in it. Take a look at the other characters in the scan over at PSPHyper. The first Radiant Mythology title was released in the US, so we are hoping this sequel does the same. Stay tuned for more info!

JAPAN: PSP hits 2m this year

FAMITSU: Console overtakes Wii and DS Lite in February – and stays top ever since; Sony system top-seller again in June

PSP has comfortably become the best-selling console in Japan for the first half of the year – shifting just shy of two million units in the region.

According to data from MCV's exclusive media partner Famistu/Enterbrain, Sony's handheld was lagging behind DS Lite and Wii in January, but overtook both consoles in February – and has outsold them ever since.

Matching its performance in April and May, PSP again outsold all of its competition in June, shifting 274,131 compared to nearest rival Wii's 235,990.

According to Famitsu data, the total sales for the first half of the year – from December 31st, 2007 to June 29th, 2008 – read:

PSP: 1,964,461 units
Wii: 1,720,263
DS Lite: 1,593, 844
PS3: 548,273
PS2: 257,701
Xbox 360: 80,290

And the total sales for the month of June were:

PSP: 274,131 units
Wii: 235,990
DS Lite: 195, 714
PS3: 139, 494
PS2: 34,537
Xbox 360: 10,964

It's time for another edition of "They Did What?" Okay, so it's the first and only edition (so far), but this is pretty darn cool. We're talking about nullDC PSP, the first Sega Dreamcast emulator for PSP. It's the creation of nullDC (a Dreamcast emulator for PC) author "drkIIRaziel" and has just recently gotten to the point where it loads and runs Shenmue (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shenmue) ... at, oh, one frame per second. (With games taking 20-30 minutes to load.)

Still, the prospect of walking around with a "DC Pocket" is definitely appealing. Let's hope for the sake of those who'd use it to play games they legally own that Sony's rumored new PSP-3000 (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/rumor-psp-3000-adds-built-in-mic-ps-button/) doesn't make a mess of the hombrew scene with potential new anti-piracy measures (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/sony-psp-software-sales-hurt-by-quality-piracy/).

Sony Japan has announced a few significant new PlayStation Portable networking features, as reported by IGN.

Top of the list is direct PSP access to the PlayStation Store via the handheld's web browser. At long, long last, you'll be able to download demos, full games and other media without having to plug your PSP into a PC or PS3. To celebrate this much-demanded feature, Sony will make Mainichi Issyo Portable freely available on the Store at launch (you'll have to pay for additional modes and items, mind).

Even more impressively, Sony Japan plans to let PSP owners play Ad Hoc multiplayer online via a PSP-to-PS3 connection. The manufacturer has confirmed that the hugely popular Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G will be among the first games to support this new service. During online Ad Hoc play, you'll also be able to use your PSP for text and chat messaging.

The updates are scheduled for release this fall in Japan, and will be compatible with all existing PSP models. North American and European dates are hopefully to follow.

PSP-3000 More Expensive in Europe (http://www.pspworld.com/sony-psp/accessories/psp3000-to-be-more-expensive-than-previous-models-in-europe-009222.php)

PSP World Writes:

"Sony has revealed pricing for the PSP-3000 model in European and Japanese territories. But in a move that has us scratching our heads here at PSP World, Sony will be pricing the newer model slightly higher than the existing hardware that it is intended to replace. In Japan, the PSP-3000 will launch on October 16 for the price of 19,800 yen ($180 USD). In Britain, the new model will cost £149 ($263 USD), which is about 15$ higher than the slim and lite version."

Το PSP θα συνδέεται απευθείας στο PSN (http://www.gameover.gr/news/%CE%A4%CE%BF-PSP-%CE%B8%CE%B1-%CF%83%CF%85%CE%BD%CE%B4%CE%AD%CE%B5%CF%84%CE%B1%C E%B9-%CE%B1%CF%80%CE%B5%CF%85%CE%B8%CE%B5%CE%AF%CE%B1%C F%82-%CF%83%CF%84%CE%BF-PSN.5793.html)

Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida has criticised third-party publishers for failing to devote output to the PlayStation Portable.

"It's really, really disappointing and it's a lost opportunity for the third parties," he told IGN (http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/909/909647p2.html). "They should look at what the PSP can do for their titles and the potential for the business that their IP has."

Yoshida cited Monster Hunter as evidence of that potential. "What's happening in Japan is interesting," he said. "Because of the massive success of Monster Hunter, Japanese publishers realise, 'here's a resource'. Lots of people are playing PSP in groups of fours and when you go to Japan it's hard to find a train or a bar where you don't see some people playing a PSP. So other publishers in Japan are seeing these consumers, and thinking, 'Wow, we can make games for those consumers'."

"And this is a usage that really sits well with the PSP," Yoshida continued. "The most recent example is the Phantasy Star game from SEGA, and it's really catching on. Some of these will come over to US and Europe, and hopefully other third parties will start thinking about the PSP in the same way."

Sony will be setting an example itself, of course, with many upcoming projects still under wraps. "This year the big title was God of War, there's Buzz and next Spring we'll be releasing Resistance. We've been consistently leveraging our existing franchises but creating unique content for the PSP, customising how the game works in terms of interface. That's been working for us very well. We have many more games that we haven't announced for next year."

All future Japanese PSP games will be downloadable

Posted on October 9th, 2008 at 15:40 EDT

According to Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=256230), Sony Computer Entertainment will publish all future PlayStation Portable games as downloads at the same time as the retail release. Pricing details for downloadable titles have yet to be announced, but should hopefully be on par with the UMD versions.

You can expect the first of these titles on October 15, along with direct PSP access to the PlayStation Store. Providing you live in Japan, that is. As to when -- or indeed if -- gamers from other nations will get their turn, the jury is still out.

The twofold on/offline publishing strategy seems to be in vogue at Sony Towers at present, with the likes of Siren: Blood Curse appearing in both Blu-ray and downloadable form. Sony also plans to make a bevy of its online games available as PlayStation Network Collection bundles for PSP.

Source (http://www.psu.com/All-future-Japanese-PSP-games-will-be-downloadable--a0005036-p0.php)

http://psp.gameover.gr/uploads/Image/diafora/psp%20d-thumb.jpg (http://psp.gameover.gr/uploads/Image/diafora/psp%20d.jpg)

Released in Japan on October 16th, the new PSP-3000 has reached a sales figure of 141,270 units in its first four days. Impressive! Also impressive, the combined sales figures of the PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 for the October 13th-October 19th period tallied 155,720 units. (Compare that to the 19873 PSPs sold the previous week and the 24131 sold the week before that.) To date, 10,357,481 PSPs have been sold in Japan.

Sony Japan has responded to criticisms about visible scanlines (http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/10/20/users-report-screen-issues-with-psp-brite-sony-investigating/) on the new PSP-3000 systems. While Sony America is looking into the situation, Japan's statement doesn't bode too well. It seems that the scanline problem is a feature of the new LCD screens. SCEI says that the "PSP-3000 has a new LCD device with vastly improved picture quality, achieving a more natural and vivid picture than older models. By improving LCD response time to reduce ghosting, the horizontal-line phenomenon becomes more visible."

The worst news is that there's no fix. "Since this is caused by hardware characteristics, there is no plan to fix it with system software update." Looks like it's here to stay. We're still waiting on a statement from SCEA but, from the looks of it, they won't have much new to add.

Forget for a moment that we called (http://kotaku.com/gaming/feature/feature-the-year-of-the-psp-250775.php) 2007 "The Year of the PSP." Somebody, somewhere *must* have called 2008 "The Year of the PSP" as well. Sony is now claiming that next year, 2009, will be "The Year of the PSP." The new PSP-3000 has been released, and the company is bullish on upcoming titles. Says PlayStation Canada mouthpiece Matt Levitan, "I also think 2009 is going to be the year of the PSP. We have Resistance: Retribution coming in February but I've seen a lot of the stuff in development and it is not a mistake by any means to a buy a PSP now." That's right, if you missed picking up a PSP during its last "Year Of The PSP," make sure you get one during the next "Year of the PSP" or maybe even in "The Year of the PSP" after that.

PSP2 Games Already In Development, PSP-4000 Due In 2009 (http://kotaku.com/5111110/psp2-games-already-in-development-psp+4000-due-in-2009)

According to "publisher sources", Eurogamer are reporting that games for a true successor to the PlayStation Portable - a PSP2, if you will - are already in development. If correct, this means Sony's second handheld console is, what...a year away? Two at the most? Sounds about right, when you consider the original PSP launched in 2004. Five-to-six years is a healthy lifespan for a handheld.
Still, that's all pie-in-the-sky stuff at the moment. It's for the distant future. Closer to the present is news that, in the meantime, Sony plans another iteration of the current PSP, the PSP-4000. Due for release in late 2009, no other details were mentioned, though with a new PSP on the horizon any changes would surely be minor ones.

New Dissidia Final Fantasy coming News

Square Enix has announced plans to release a new PSP game titled Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy.

According to Shonen Jump magazine (as read by Andriasang (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/09/08/dissidia_ff_sequel/)), it's due out next year.
Lightning from FFXIII and Kain from FFIV will be playable characters.
Apart from that, nothing is known about the game. Seems likely more will be revealed at next week's Tokyo Game Show, though.

http://www.enternity.gr/Article/%CE%9C%CE%B5%CE%AF%CF%89%CF%83%CE%B7-%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BC%CE%AE%CF%82-%CE%BA%CE%B1%CE%B9-%CE%B3%CE%B9%CE%B1-%CF%84%CE%BF-PSPgo/819.html

"We have nothing to say at this time regarding the price of PSP within the SCEE region. PSP has been performing particularly well in Europe so far this year and we look forward to sharing some exciting plans that we have for PSP throughout the year."

Στην Ιαπωνία, υπάλληλος ενός Sony Shop μαρτύησε σε blog ότι η Sony έχει σταματήσει την κυκλοφορία του PSP Go και ότι τα καταστήματα απλά θα λάβουν στις προσεχείς εβδομάδες μόνο το ήδη υπάρχον απόθεμα. Πέραν αυτού, η συσκευή δεν μπορεί να αγοραστεί απ' το Ιαπωνικό online κατάστημα Sony Style (http://www1.jp.sonystyle.com/Qnavi/Product/PSP-N1000/), με την αιτιολογία ότι το stock έχει τελειώσει και δεν υπάρχει μελλοντική ημερομηνία παράδοσης. Άραγε θα σταματήσει όντως η παραγωγή του;

To PSP Go κυκλοφορεί εδώ και ενάμιση χρόνο στα καταστήματα.

Who says the PSP is dead? Oh, everyone? Including Sony? Right, right, because the PSP is dead and has been for like five years now. BUT HEY, that won't stop the folks at publisher XSEED Games from releasing a new PSP game next week anyway.
Above: the trailer for Brandish: The Dark Revenant, an action-RPG that will be out Tuesday as a $20 digital release for PSP. Why release a PSP game in 2015, you might ask? Well, for one, it's compatible with the more modern Vita and PlayStation TV systems, which is likely where most people will play it. Also, apparently it's pretty good.
