GGL to Power Online Tournaments on PS3!

PlayStation 3 competitions now officially powered by GGL.

One common complaint about the PlayStation 3 remains its lack of online gaming prowess. Whereas Xbox 360 offers many head-to-head gaming experiences over a broadband connection, the PlayStation 3 competition essentially has none. Help appeared today as Sony Computer Entertainment America announced a new agreement where the GGL will produce several live online PS3 gaming tournaments.

"We are excited to create tournaments for the PS3 community and provide players with the opportunity to showcase their talent online in a live, competitive environment," said Jeff Reese, director of software marketing, SCEA. "Teaming with GGL further validates our commitment in building outstanding experiences and providing gamers with the best possible gaming online."

Resistance: Fall of Man, the first game to work with the tournament, offered open registration on June 18 and received over 6,000 registrants in the first 10 days. The tournament itself began on July 7 and offers both one-on-one and three-on-three team competition.

"We want to encourage and enable further enjoyment of these outstanding game titles' competitive features and give these PS3 players an incredible online experience in a forum that stimulates interest, involvement and enthusiasm," said Ted Owen, GGL's founder.

As part of the agreement, GamePlay HD, part of the VOOM HD Networks, will fly tournament finalists to the GamePlay HD Studios in New York City to compete. The footage will appear in a new high definition TV series that focuses on video game tournaments.
