Live Blog από το IGN
3:27 a.m. -- "There's a talk show now but no tables," Anoop says. "I'll stop blogging now."

What's this mean for our Metal Gear coverage? Not much. Anoop's going to get to work on some in-depth impressions of what he saw, I'm going to crank out some news stories and edit this blog, we'll have new pictures as the night wears on, and there will be 15 minutes of awesomeness this morning.

3:03 a.m. -- They're going to go on to part 2 of the event shortly -- a talk show with Kojima.

3:02 a.m. -- Kojima shows a special Metal Gear Solid-themed cell phone.

3:01 a.m. -- He announces Metal Gear Solid Mobile for cell phones. It's a game set in Metal Gear Solid 3 world. The game is in full 3D. It will be through EZweb and be included on a particular Sony Ericson model as default.

3:00 a.m. -- "Kojima gets a commuque on his cell phone!" -- Anoop

2:59 a.m. -- Closed beta will run 8/20 to 9/3. They will accept applications from 7/24 to 8/6. It's closed beta, limited to 3000 people. Check the Kojima Productions website for more info. The live demo is finished.

2:57 a.m. -- Kojima climbs up a ladder (GREG: In the game, people!), kills someone and then jump back down. He also stresses that you can just throw a grenade up there if you want. If you kill an enemy, you can tap into their information system. You're then able to see the enemies -- if you're the blue team, the enemies show up as red.

2:55 a.m. -- When you die, you can select your weapon and get thrown back onto the battlefield.

2:54 a.m. -- "I can't stress enough how cool this new gameplay system looks," Anoop writes. "You can see your allies totallly far away, even through many walls."

2:53 a.m. -- The effect of the characters being blue looks really cool -- they flash blue and black, like they're made of a bunch of blue boxes.

2:51 a.m. -- They're set to begin the demo. They have a new system, called -- I think -- the SOKKU system. It allows you to more clearly get information about your ally characters. This system allows you to see the posiiton of your allies, even through walls. They show up as blue figures. You can even see them when they're in the cardboard box.

2:50 a.m. -- The basic concept of MGO is hide and seek -- make sure you don't get seen.

2:49 a..m. -- MGO will be playable by up to 16 people. Today, they're going to show 6 x 6 -- a total of 12 people.

2:48 a.m. --The producer of MGO, Mr. Matsuha, is taking the stage.

2:47 a.m. -- Now, they're going to introduce Metal Gear Online.

2:46:30 a.m. -- The demo is done.

2:46 a.m. --Snake is actually working with some characters now, presumably the side Kojima decided to support for the demo.

2:45 a.m. -- Now he's showing Snake throwing grenades at enemy forces. And now using a machine gun.

2:43 a.m. --Now Snake can use the Mark II whenever he wants. Snake goes back outside, and there seems to be a war starting. Lots of gunfire between the PMC and the other forces. Kojima makes snake hide behind a car, then call out the Mark II. Snake holds a Sixaxis as you control the Mark II in first person. He leads Mark II to an enemy, then electrocutes him. Kojima then expalins that you can make Snake support either the PFC forces or the other forces if you like. It's up to you.

2:30 a.m. -- He shows snake take out a couple of enemies while hiding in a garbage bin. Then, he leads Snake out of the garbage bin. A demo takes over and shows a scene from the original demo with Otacon and the mark ii appearing.

2:39 a.m. -- But Kojima makes him feel better by viewing gravure book.

2:38 a.m. -- After showing a knife fight, he shows snake in a drum can.Snake switches to a drum can, then rolls on the ground to bowl out a couple of enemies. Snake emerges from the drum can dizzy, then throws up.

2:37 a.m. -- Now Kojima is showing some combat. Gunplay seems to be handled by Snake appearing on either the left or right side of the screen -- you can switch between the two perspectives.

2:34 a.m. -- The PMCs come in, look around, then pass him by. He switches to his regular octo-cam. Kojima shows how it helps him blend into walls and into the floor. He's laying on the floor, camoulauged, and a PMC passes right by him. Snake gets up and surprises the guy, then takes his weapon.

2:31 a.m. -- Psst. It's Greg. Our first batch of images from the event are ready.

2:30 a.m. -- The real-time demo has started from behind Snake's back. It switches to solid eye, then zooms in on troops in the distance -- pmc troops. Now, he's putting on statue-cam camouflague to look like a statue. Everyone laughs.

2:27 a.m. -- Now Kojima is going to announce another voice star whom he thinks everyone will recognize ... Mari Natsuki! She's delivering a video message. She will play the role of Eva, a girl who fought snake in MGS3.

2:23 a.m. -- Kojima is taking the stage. He's announcing that Vamp, the guyw ho fights Raiden at the end, has a special voice. It's some guy who's last name is Tsukamoto. "Some Japanese star -- I think he's very famous," Anoop says.

2:18 a.m. -- They're showing the MGS4 trailer we've seen before.

2:17 a.m. --It's Bande Dessinee, but set in the world of Metal Gear Solid 2. Full voice, and a more advanced digital comic than we've seen before.

2:15 a.m. -- NEW GAME! Metal Gear Solid 2 Bande Dessinee! PSP! Trailer is being shown! Full voice in the game!

2:12 a.m. -- Now, it's time to talk Portable Ops +. Trailer begins -- new stages, new soldiers, new modes.

2:11 a.m. --He's introducing products from the 20th anniversary. Metal Gear Solid Collection! Metal Gear music collection!

2:10 a.m. --Imaizumi Kenichiro is taking the stage -- Kojima production contents producer.

2:08 a.m. -- He's just giving a basic introduction and welcoming everyone to the event.

2:06 a.m. -- Kojima is taking the stage.

2:05 a.m. -- They talked about MGS3, the footage ended, and I'm uploading a ton of Anoop photos.

2 a.m. -- Now, they're talking about Metal Gear Solid 2. Showing scenes from the TGS and E3 unveilings of the infamous trailers.

1:59 a.m. -- Now, they're showing scenes from the game's release in Japan ... then scenes from throughout the world. For all the launches. Now, they're listing all the MGS games that were released. Exciting!

1:58 a.m. -- Still on the original MGS.

1:56 a.m. -- Anoop says, "Right now, the video they're showing is going from one game to the other, starting with the original Metal Gear and going through all the sequels. They're on the Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation. Talking about how they had to deal with the switch to 3D."

1:55 a.m. -- Mr. Tanaka Fumiaki of Konami is giving a speech now and showing a video summarizing the Metal Gear franchise.

1:44 a.m. -- Anoop lives and is uploading images from the event. Booyah!

1:39 a.m. -- Anoop must be in Metal Gear heaven (Outer Heaven?). He's communicating via a PDA, and he's gone into blackout mode. I assume the presentation is so awesome his head caved in. What do we know? We'll be getting 15 minutes of gameplay footage from the powers that be.

The bad news? It's embargoed until 8 a.m. Pacific time. D'oh. Looks like I won't be coming in to work tomorrow.

1:25 a.m. -- Don't worry, I hate waiting as much as you do.

1:11 a.m. -- I alternate between loving and hating pressure. I just got all the front page spotlights and the links on the boards up. When I was done, I checked out the boards to see what the kids were saying.

Here's one of them ...
"I'm in London. Found out about the event in this thread at about 11.30pm GMT last night. Went to bed round 1am and woke up at 8am to try and catch the event. I remember when ign had the exclusive Too Human footage on ign weekly. It was supposed to arrive at about 2am GMT so I stayed up, but it got delayed and I ended up waiting until 11am the next morning before it finally arrived! The worst thing was I spent all night (and most of the morning) awake to see it and it ended up being a huge let down. Luckily I'm pretty sure MGS4 footage won't disappoint."

Man, it's going to suck for him if this whole thing turns into Anoop texting me short blurbs.

12:46 a.m. --"We're going in now, so I'll get back to you in a bit," Anoop says. Exciting!

12:45 a.m. -- Preach on Anoop: "The event takes place in the Grand Ballroom of the Ritz Carlton in Tokyo Midtown, a new entertainment/business facility in Roppongi. Konami is located in the same building. There are a bunch of journalists waiting outside now. They will start letting us in soon. Outside, in typical Japanese fashion, a bunch of important people have sent flowers in commemoration of the event. Tetsuya Nomura, Game Republic's Okamoto, Sony's Kaz Hirai."

12:40 a.m. -- Anoop's on the scene. The internet lives!

12:23 a.m. -- I haven't heard from Anoop. Looks like he might be filing news stories via text messages. I wish I was kidding.

11:52 p.m. -- Anoop is abandoning his wifi hotspot (see: Starbucks) and heading to the hotel. He fears that the internet there might not be so hot. Updates to follow.

11:40 p.m. -- Metal Gear is my franchise.

Years ago, a friend and I stumbled into a Blockbuster and rented Metal Gear Solid with little thought. I had heard that the game was alright. I was willing to give it a chance.

It would go on to become my favorite videogame of all time.

Hey, everybody. It's Greg from the IGN PlayStation Team, and I'll be your home base coordinator for tonight's Metal Gear details. Just what is Konami going to announce in Japan tonight? Eh, your guess is as good as mine, but I'm betting it'll be cool.

Of course, my hopes might be so high because I love Snake and company so much. To date, Metal Gear Solid is the only game I have sworn never to trade in; Metal Gear Solid 2 remains one of a handful of games that I've played the wheels off -- dog tags, secrets, etc. -- you name it, and I've done it; and for my money, Portable Ops is the best thing on the PSP.

The conference is supposed to begin around 1:30 a.m. Pacific time. Stick with IGN tonight to see my thoughts on what's happening and -- most importantly -- the actual news from our chief Japan correspondent Anoop.

Metal Gear Online Announced (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/807/807560p1.html)
It's official -- soon you'll be able to pretend to be Snake with a bunch of other Metal Gear nerds pretending to be Snake.

Early this morning at Konami's celebration of Metal Gear's 20th anniversary, the company rolled out the first details and footage of Metal Gear Online -- a hide and seek game for up to 16 players.

We'll have in-depth impressions in a little bit, but Konami's website is already showing nine images from the game and offering the following synopsis.

"At last, Metal Gear Online is headed to PS3! Featuring characters, stages, and the same control scheme as found in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4, this reloaded MGO experience packs in additional environments, game modes, and team-based multiplayer mayhem to make this the ultimate online companion to MGS4!"

Today's Konami presentation did talk a bit about a new team system in MGO called SOKKU, which allows you quickly and easily access info on your allies. You'll even be able to see them through walls.

If you're salivating for Metal Gear Online, don't forget that there is a beta (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/807/807558p1.html) coming up -- although it's limited to just 3,000 people.

Metal Gear Online Closed Beta Announced (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3161467)

We weren't allowed to film the official unveiling of Metal Gear Online for PlayStation 3 during the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary party happening right this very instant in Japan, but we can bring word that Konami and Kojima Productions will be orchestrating a closed beta to choose 3,000 individuals who will help them test and tweak the online multiplayer game.

So far, the closed beta appears to be for Japanese gamers only, but as this party was completely Japan-centric, no announcements about any potential US plans is hardly surprising. If anything's planned, expect to hear about it in the coming weeks.

For Japan, here's the deal. Registration has already opened on the Kojima Productions website, with the closed beta beginning August 20th and ending September 3rd - not exactly a lot of time, especially when we have no idea when MGO is actually being released.

First screenshots from Metal Gear Online
The first screenshots from the recently revealed Metal Gear Online for PS3 have been released, and are viewable on the official website for Kojima Productions (http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/event2007/index-en.html).

Unfortunately, the screens are teeny-tiny so you may need to bring a magnifying glass along with you.

Kojima Productions calls Metal Gear Online "the ultimate online companion to MGS 4", suggesting it'll release alongside the game that Hideo Kojima has said will draw Solid Snake's current adventures to a close.

Metal Gear Online's just been shown over in Japan at a Metal Gear event, where, reports IGN, it was revealed it'll support up to 16 players and that the core premise of the game is hide and seek - although there'll be plenty of action.
