The Playstation Video store is up. (http://store.playstation.com/)

Downloading will be not permitted outside the Authorized Term. In addition, once the Video Content has been downloaded from PSN, you will not be able to download it again for any reason without purchase of another copy.

On the rental side, you have 14 days to view the purchase and 24 hours to watch it after its first viewing.

================================================== =====================

The Playstation Video Store: available tonight in the US/Fall 08 for Euro/Japan!

What is the PS Video Store?
Available on the PS3, it allows you to choose over a variety of TV Shows and Movies to rent in either SD or High Definition. You can also purchase SD content to keep forever. Rentals last 14 days with a grace period of 24 hours once the content has started playing.

What systems can use it?
Available on the PS3, and also available to transfer directly to the PSP. You can also browse the store via PC for use on your PSP. Remote Play viewing is not available for downloaded content via Store purchases or rentals; the videos themselves simply don't appear when using Remote Play.

How much content is there?
As of July 15th, there is a bit less than 300 movies and over 1,200 pieces of TV show content. There is also exclusive content available from partners such as SCEI and SCEJ.

How much will it cost?
Prices will likely vary, but there seems to be some pricing guidelines in place.

Rentals are $2.99-3.99 in SD and can be upscaled using the latest 2.41 firmware. HD rentals are $5.99. SD copies can be purchased for $9.99 to $14.99.

How long are the rentals?
Rentals last 14 days with a grace period of 24 hours once the content has started playing.

Can I copy the movies to other systems aside from the PSP?
No. The videos downloaded are encrypted differently and show a title icon instead of the icons made by the user. Users cannot use custom icons on the videos.

Can I share videos like Game Sharing?
Unknown at this point.

Can videos on the PS3 be remotely viewed via PSP?
No, Remote Play does not show any videos purchased/rented via PS Video Store.

Where are all the preview options for movies?
They will be integrated with the store later this week, just like the launch of the game PS Store (even the movie Dewey Cox does not have the preview function shown at the E3 Sony conference).

Will videos be in my download history?
Videos seem to have their own separate download history icon. Rentals can only be downloaded once; after that you must repurchase to download again, unless the download was interrupted. Purchased content seems to be OK to download multiple times on the same system.

Will there be a PC store for the PSP?
Yes (thanks Wollan).

Will I be able to transfer things on and off the PS3 Store and the PC Store?
It doesn't look like it. All content bought on the PC Store seems to only be activated for use on the PSP. If you buy it on the PS3, you can watch it on the PS3 and transfer it from the PS3 to the PSP. You cannot view your download history on your PC and download a PS3 purchase to your PSP. Wow, that wasn't confusing at all! :p

Can I download to an external HDD?
No, it must be on the HDD itself.

When will the store be updated?
"Weekly" according to Sony, likely on the Thursday/Friday of the regular store update.

Sony isn’t sitting by to let Microsoft take credit for making Xbox 360 the entertainment center of your living-room’s universe. No sooner did Sony announce its new PlayStation Video Store at E3 this week that it was alive and operable on your PS3. All you need is an Internet connection and the latest firmware version 2.41 to access the Video Store.
Netflix on Xbox LIVE (http://www.gizmorepublic.com/gaming/playstation3-hard-drive-upgrades-made-easy-1740) will have to wait for this fall’s update to the Xbox 360 Dashboard. LIVE subscribers will get access to complete Netflix’s library of streaming movies. The library is massive but consists of generally older films. The best thing about the Netflix deal is that if you’re already a LIVE subscriber the service costs nothing extra. The biggest disadvantage to Netflix is no HD and sub-DVD quality video.
PlayStation Video Store (http://www.gamertell.com/gaming/comment/playstation-video-store-goes-live/) is a download service much like the one Microsoft already has in place. You can rent from a selection of about 300 movies and 1,200 TV show episodes. Sony promises its library will grow in coming months but for now selection is limited. Like Xbox LIVE, many movies and TV shows are available in HD. One key advantage to PlayStation’s system is that many titles are available to buy rather than just rent.
If you’ve bought into the PlayStation family you may even own a PSP to go with your PS3. Sony has maintained interoperability between the devices by making the movies uploadable to your PSP so you can watch on the road. If you’re buying movies through your PS3 don’t worry about your hardware 60GB limitation. You can easily upgrade the PlayStation 3 hard drive so archiving is made easy. (See: PlayStation3 Hard Drive Upgrades Made Easy (http://www.gizmorepublic.com/gaming/playstation3-hard-drive-upgrades-made-easy-1740))
Both are worthy and unique movie delivery systems for a game consoles. But as a user of both consoles and a home theater enthusiast who values quality over quantity, ease of use or scalability, I would personally not use either system… ever.
Despite PlayStation Video Store’s better quality HD video exact resolution is ambiguous. You won’t know if you’re getting 720P, 1080P or some mash-up of pixels your display is forced to scale. And forget lossless audio, downloads are highly compressed. As for Netflix…I’d rather trim my toenails with a Bowie knife than sit through a Netflix streamed movie over my Xbox 360.
Fortunately for console gamers the best option for high-def movies with high-res audio is still PlayStation 3. Sony is after all the winner of the HD format war and the PS3 is still arguably the best and most affordable Blu-ray player on the market

Άρα.... για rental καλό είναι. Από το να τρέχεις στο video-club :p

Some sad news for those folks who want to access the recently opened PSN Video Store from outside the US. Joystiq reports that Sony (http://ps3.qj.net/tags/sony/880)'s PSN Video Store is IP-locked to the United States.

What does this mean, exactly? Well, if you have a US account, but don't live in the US (let's say Europe), you still won't be able to access the video store. In any event, this means that folks outside the US will have to wait for their respective areas to open up shop. Let's hope it happens soon.

European manages to access the USA Video Store (http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=29720)

After watching E3 live via a friends stream I heard about the New Video Store for PS3 Owners. It sounded amazing and I planned to purchase content. However the days past and the news comes that its not available to us EU based PS3 owners!

Anyway cutting to the chase, it pissed me off and most of the people I know. Others and I tried the simple basic network concept of Proxy but as you should know it was a FAIL.

So yeah, 3 days of hacking at kernels and other wonderful protocols in the stack I managed to get my PS3 to connect to the USA Video store and browse movies. I am almost certain that with the right details for the credit card, the purchase would be successful and I could watch the said content. Ive yet to use the paypal one use credit card yet… I understand that works for buying content from other countries stores on the PSN)

I have to now retrace the 3 days worth of positive progress and write it up for those who are interested in doing it….. but no matter how conveluted it is I am just showing that it is possible and you dont have to wait untill 2009 to access any sort of video store on the PSN.

I would also guess this would work for an XBOX 360 owner with regional content issues.

Follow the sites RSS or just come back when you hear about it in your various methods……… itll be here in full very soon.

Here is a video of “going thru the motions” on the USA store from the UK. Nothing to exciting for now….proof of concept ya know.YouTube - UK PS3 accessing USA PSN Video Store

PS3 video store not coming to PAL regions in 2008

PS3-owning movie buffs across the globe were exuberant upon the unveiling of the PlayStation Network's video delivery service, and the announcement that it would be made available, well, now. Unless, of course, you live in Europe, Australia, or one of the many other PAL regions of the world -- according to Sony Europe exec David Reeves, Sony won't be getting their Blockbuster on in PAL territories in 2008.

Reeves promised that "dates and content for the video download service will be announced later this year," somewhat ensuring a lengthy delay. However, he did mention the launch of Go!View, the recently released European television and movie download service for the PSP, as something of a consolation. We would have preferred a promise to exclude any films written and directed by the Wayans brothers from the service's PAL incarnation.

:frog:)
