"Ubisoft Montreal, developers of the forthcoming sequel Far Cry 2, has admitted that the company previously held concerns over the reputed complexity’s involved in working with Sony’s PS3 (http://www.psu.com/Far-Cry-2-dev-impressed-with-PS3s-+quot;raw+quot;-power-News--a0002699-p0.php#) , but stated it is highly impressed by the system's "raw" processing (http://www.psu.com/Far-Cry-2-dev-impressed-with-PS3s-+quot;raw+quot;-power-News--a0002699-p0.php#) power.

Speaking to PSM3 Magazine, Tech Director Dominic Guay commented, "We were somewhat worried by some of the reported high complexity of developing for the PS3 (http://www.psu.com/Far-Cry-2-dev-impressed-with-PS3s-+quot;raw+quot;-power-News--a0002699-p0.php#),” adding, "but the raw processing power is impressive".

Guay revealed how the team, over time, has become more acquainted in developing for the PS3, as he recalls, "We made sure we had a group of programmers that were not scared by complexity and had a large console programming experience to work on the initial PS3 R&D of Dunia (Far Cry 2's graphics engine). At that point, we didn't know what to expect."

“One thing that we realized pretty quickly as we started R&D on PS3 was that the hardware architecture had a very nice fit with some of our technical design decisions.”

“We were positively surprised by how efficient the SPUs (the Cell [processing units) were to do such things as run our vegetation simulation, our animations or our physics systems. So while it did require quite a bit of R&D to understand how to use the system correctly, once we started having results we saw that it was a very capable console and that FC2 could run on it."

Elsewhere, Guay also touched on how the PS3’s Blu-ray and hard drive aspect have facilitated the company’s efforts in terms of its ability to stream games in real-time, adding, “The hard drive and Blu-ray are making our life easy considering FC2 is an open world continuously streamed around the player.”

“That streaming bandwidth and disk space is very appreciated. So, in terms of AI, game structure, physics, dynamic time of day, open world gameplay, dynamic weather (http://www.psu.com/Far-Cry-2-dev-impressed-with-PS3s-+quot;raw+quot;-power-News--a0002699-p0.php#) system, destructible vegetation, all of those things where we had really pushed the envelope technically, they run well on PS3."

Ναι μια χαρά το λέει ο άνθρωπος.

Ο καημένος θα είχε ακούσει τα τέρατα πιο πριν. Γι' αυτό, αγαπητοί developers, μην ακούτε τους προγραμματιστές της EA. Δοκιμάστε πρώτα μόνοι σας.

αυτο ελειπε, να χαλαγε τους devs ο cell! ταυτοχρονα πολλοι υπολογισμοι για physics....

Φαντασου για να τρεχει ανετα και χωρις πολυ optimization το Far cry 2 που φερνει στα ορια του συγχρονα PC ποσο δυνατος ειναι ο Cell και το PS3 γενικοτερα

το εχω ξαναπει καπου αλλου, μολις οι προγραμματιστες εξοικειωθουν με το PS3 θα δουμε πραγματα και θαματα

και τοτε θα φανει και η διαφορα με το XBOX που πολυ απλα δεν θα μπορει να ανταποκριθει

υπομονη

αν και ακομα και τωρα δεν νομιζω οτι το PS3 υστερει ποια τοσο πολυ σε γραφικα

Το άρθρο έχει και συνέχεια που δεν φαίνεται στο link που έχει παραθέσει ο Valkyre αλλά φαίνεται αν πατήσεις κάτω κάτω στο άρθρο το link source...

The PS3 version, unsurprisingly, won't match top spec PCs. "However, the notable area where we had to make some tradeoffs is in some assets resolution which had to be brought down from the higher end PC configurations due to memory size difference. However, the good new is that since PS3 players are not outputting over the top resolutions like high end PC users, this is not a big deal. It's somewhat proportional to our video resolution output."

Ειναι αληθεια οτι τα 256mb+256mb μνημης του PS3 ειναι λιγα με συνεπεια να δουλευει συνεχεια το Bluray drive

οποτε εχουμε καθυστερησεις στο φορτωμα διαδοχικων πιστων στα games και γρηγορη φθορα του Bluray drive

ειναι λιγο, αλλα ειναι παρα πολυ γρηγορη, οποτε αν την χρησιμοποιεις καλα δεν χρειαζεται..
υπαρχει και ο σκληρος... σιγουρα τα games "προτιμουν" τη μνημη, μετα το σκληρο και τελευταιο το br..
