As one enters the Las Vegas Convention Center South Hall, you are greeted by the sights and sounds of various vendors pushing, what they claim, to be the next big hit. One booth, however, stood out from the rest. It could have been the huge 103" LCD displaying various clips from Blu-ray films, or possibly the large replica of the Black Pearl from the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' films, but the booth was absolutely swarmed with people looking for the latest information about the successor to DVD.

The Blu-ray Disc Association, which was designed by Disney, was a very elaborate display involving themes
from popular Blu-ray films. As you can see from last photo, during the show it was packed.

BD Magic Goes Live (http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=816)
ArcSoft, Inc. and Related Content Database Inc. (RCDB) have come together to create ArcSoft TotalMedia Extreme with BD Magic,an optional Blu-ray player feature that adds both a network content delivery channel and an on-screen personal media library. BD Magic featured players can receive updated Blu-ray trailers, Blu-ray sample scenes, and exclusive high-definition content direct to their Blu-ray player.


Live from Sony Pictures Conference
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=825)Sony Pictures today showcased upcoming Blu-ray interactive features for their titles. One feature will allow viewers to send a ring tone to their phone from the movie. Additionally, PSP owners will be happy to hear that a portable copy will be available on the disc encoded specifically for the PSP. Also shown was a Men In Black network trivia game.


Live with Lionsgate Blu-ray
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=827)Lionsgate announced today their new MOLOG, or, Movie Blog BD Live feature.
This interactive feature allows a viewer to participate in online discussions regarding Lionsgate titles. This online discussion community will be accessable from a BD Live player and blogging can be done while the film is being viewed. Viewers can also access MOLOG from any web browser. Lionsgate's BD release of Saw 4 will debut this feature next month.


Live with 20th Century Fox
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=826)Fox is currently announcing their 2008 plans for BD. In addition to growing their catalog of BD titles, Fox plans on aggressively jumping into the market with advanved BD Live functionality featuring networked gaming and social networking. Fox is demonstrating a working Alien Vs. Predator networked game that allows players compete for the highest kill numbers. More to come..


Panasonic Keynote - Wireless BD
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=821)Panasonic today announced during their CES keynote, a new wireless HD video system called Home Base that completely eliminates cables from a HD setup. The system was demonstrated using a DMP-BD30 playing BD content without any loss in quality. Panasonic plans to release this product early next year.


Funai
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=823)Funai has just confirmed the release of their profile 1.1 BD player for the second quarter of 2008. The player will be released under the Sylvania brand name and by "several other OEM partners," according to Funai spokesperson Kanako Inouchi. Pricing will be under $300.


Sony Showcases 2 BD-Live Players
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=813)At the Sony booth, they are showcasing two new prototype BD-Live players. The Sapphire 3 and 4 will both be Profile 2.0. Sony also has indicated that the PS3 will get a BD-Live upgrade sometime in the future.


Philips BDP7200 Blu-ray Player
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=824) At the BDA Booth today, Philips is showing off their upcoming Bonus View player, the BDP7200. Retailing for $349, the player will pass Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA. The player is a proprietary Philips design, unlike their first Blu-ray player.

Sharp Introduces BD-HP50 (http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=838)
Sharp Electronics is showing off their new BD-HP50 Bonus View Blu-ray Player.
Available in May for $699, the player will decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. The player will also support Aquos link to control your Sharp TV with the same remote and Quick Start for fast loading movies.


Daewoo / Daytek Blu-ray Player (http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=841)
Their BD Live Blu-ray player is still in the prototype stage and the company is in planning and research mode for an eventual Canadian release under the Daytek brand name.


Panasonic SC-BT1000
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=822)Panasonic has revealed that their new SC-BT1000 Home Theater in a Box system will feature not only profile 1.1 support, but also full PCM, TrueHD and DTS HD MA support as well. The system will be made available in 5.1 and 7.1 configurations and will feature wireless rear channel speakers.


Panasonic Press Conference - DMP-BD50
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=810)This just in from CES: Panasonic has just unveiled the new DMP-BD50 Blu-ray player with full BD Live (profile 2.0) implementation. The player will internally decode Dolby TrueHD as well as DTS HD Master Audio and will have the same SD card functionality as the current DMP-BD30.


Panasonic Press Conference - SC-BT1000
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=809)At their massive press conference today at CES, Panasonic announced the new SC-BT1000 home theater in a box with a built in Bonus View (profile 1.1) Blu-ray player.


Samsung Unveils BD-UP5500
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=811)Samsung today announced the upcoming dual format BD-UP5500. No specifications were given other than 1080p with 24fps playback, other information reveals it will be BD profile 1.1 compliant.


Pioneer
(http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=829)Pioneer is currently showing a new BD model that has no model number, release date or price point. The player is Bonus View (profile 1.1) compatible and internally decodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. Pioneer has promised more information at their product show in May.


Hitach (http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=832)
BDA member Hitachi had their Blu-ray Disc camcorders, the DZ-BD70A ($1299 MSRP) and the DZ-BD7HA ($1499 MSRP) on display here at CES. Although these models have been out a few months, unfortunately Hitachi did not have any new models or BD players to show.
