Former Microsoft creative director Adam Orth revealed the first footage of his upcoming space survival sim Adrift at tonight's The Game Awards.

Adr1ft won't feature any combat, but rather goes the Gravity route and focuses on repairing your damaged vessel in the harsh vacuum of outer space.

Adr1ft is coming summer 2015 to PS4, Xbox One and Steam where it will feature Oculus Rift support.

IGN: This is a first person experience game, we saw it unveiled at The Game Awards back in December; give me the quick elevator pitch.
Adam Orth: Adr1ft is the story of an astronaut who wakes up floating in space among the wreckage of a destroyed space-station, with no idea how she got there, no idea what happened, and a really badly damaged EVA suit that’s slowly leaking oxygen. You basically have to survive and get home.
IGN: There is no combat in this game.
Adam Orth: There is no combat in Adr1ft. There is not a single weapon, there’s not a single bullet – there’s not even another single living person. The enemy in Adr1ft is the environment.
IGN: When the game comes out this summer, how do you want people to remember Adr1ft?
Adam Orth: Hopefully in a couple ways. I want people to remember Adr1ft in the fact that they had a great mechanical experience. Maybe Adr1ft is not really “fun” for people – it’s very stressful. Tense, stress, frightening, claustrophobic sometimes. I want people to feel like they had a good game mechanic experience, which I think we have. Using oxygen as a shared health and propulsion resource makes every movement count. There’s these little micro-decisions that are hopefully meaningful to people. I would hope people key into that. It seems like people playing the game now really like that. I want people to remember that it was beautiful to look at. It’s got a great engine [Unreal Engine 4] that’s exceeding our expectations for the way the game looks. From the narrative, I want people to feel like, hey, this is not a normal video game story, and is maybe unique in that way. I want people to maybe think about, after they follow the journey of this story, that maybe they have a quiet moment or two of reflection upon, “how would I do that?” or “maybe I can take something away here.” It’s not a teaching thing, it’s not about learning. Hopefully you took something away from it where you pause for a minute and go “that was different and cool, and I want to maybe try that again.” I want to actually take this opportunity to really hammer home, because a lot of people don’t understand that we’re making a traditional game. They think, “oh, it’s not only VR?” I don’t really know how that happened [laughter]. I kind of know how it happened, but it’s a strange thing. It’s actually a traditional game first, but even better with VR. Don’t forget that.

Στα ίχνη του gravity θα έλεγα, με την διαφορά ότι εδώ δεν θα ξέρουμε και το γιατί και πως βρεθήκαμε στην κατάσταση αυτή.

Η ημερομηνια κυκλοφοριας του Adr1ft ηταν γι αυτον τον μηνα, αλλα τελικα θα παει και αυτο για το 2016 με το λανσαρισμα του Oculus Rift.

Λογική κίνηση. Πρέπει το VR να έχει μπόλικους τίτλους με το Launch του ώστε να ψηθεί ο κόσμος να το αγοράσει.

Αν και η διάρκεια του παιχνιδιού είναι μικρή, θα ήθελα να το δοκιμάσω σαν video game adaptation του Gravity, το οποίο μου άρεσε.
Φαίνεται να είναι must have εμπειρία σε VR αλλά δεν ξέρω αν αξίζει χωρίς αυτό.

ADR1FT is a non-violent, narrative-driven FPX (first-person experience) where the focus is exploration, environment, narrative and light game mechanics. What kind of game is ADR1FT?

ADR1FT is hard to categorize, because it has a little bit of a lot of things. There’s action, simulation, exploration, mechanics, objectives, puzzles and storytelling. Mostly, we like to think of ADR1FT as an experience and a meditation revolving around the fantasy of an astronaut in peril.

Many people use the film Gravity as a comparison, but ADR1FT is actually closer to the films 2001: A Space Odyssey and Moon in terms of experience, tone and theme.

What other games is ADR1FT similar to?

If you enjoy games like: Firewatch, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Gone Home, Dear Esther and Proteus, we think you will appreciate and love ADR1FT.

How much does ADR1FT cost?

ADR1FT will sell for $19.99.

Will there be a physical/retail version of ADR1FT?

ADR1FT is digital PSN only. Currently, there are no plans for physical or retail.

What is ADR1FT about?

ADR1FT is the story of Commander Alex Oshima who wakes up floating amongst the debris of the destroyed Northstar IV space station with no memory of who she is, no memory of the catastrophic event that took the lives of her crew and a badly damaged EVA suit slowly leaking oxygen.

What do you do in ADR1FT?

As the only survivor, your goals in ADR1FT are simply to stay alive and get home safely.

You accomplish this by exploring the wreckage of the Northstar IV in zero gravity, searching for oxygen resources, repairing your damaged EVA suit and re-activating the station’s 4 core system mainframes in order to be able to operate and launch the station’s EEV escape craft.

How is the story delivered in ADR1FT?

The narrative in ADR1FT is delivered in 6 unique ways:

Mission Control communications

How is the story told in ADR1FT?

Just like the Northstar IV station, your EVA suit and Alex Oshima herself, the story/narrative in ADR1FT is broken. It’s meant to be discovered randomly as seeds that give you brief glimpses into the lives of Alex and the crew members who did not survive. These seeds allow you grow and create your own version of the story over the universe fiction so that each player has their own unique version of ADR1FT. There is no real, traditional game story structure. It’s messy, incomplete and up to you hunt down as much or as little as you like while exploring the wreckage.

How was ADR1FT created?

ADR1FT was created using Unreal Engine 4.

Are there multiple endings in ADR1FT?

Yes.

Do your actions in-game affect the outcome of ADR1FT?

Absolutely.

What are the gameplay mechanics in ADR1FT?

ADR1FT revolves around the player’s EVA suit and has four main gameplay mechanic/systems:

EVA Propulsion: ADR1FT takes full advantage of zero gravity, physics and the weightlessness of space. Your EVA suit is operated via intuitive controls mapped to the DualShock 4 that allows players to manipulate and move through the environment in 360°.

EVA Oxygen: Your EVA Propulsion system is damaged and uses oxygen as an emergency propulsion resource. Players must carefully monitor and manage their EVA oxygen level via HUD meter in order to utilize life support and propulsion. Many moment-to-moment decisions have to be weighed carefully as using your shared resource affects everything you do.

EVA Repair: As each core mainframe system is brought back online, you are able to repair 4 areas of your EVA suit: Oxygen (overall suit capacity), Propulsion (extra speed boost), Mobility (overall movement speed) and Integrity (oxygen leak repair).

EVA Scan: Allows player to scan the environment for oxygen, objectives, interaction items, narrative elements, repair stations, collectibles and secrets.

Are there multiple gameplay modes in ADR1FT?

Yes. In addition to the single player experience, ADR1FT also features:

EVA Training: An unlimited training environment where players can master the use of their undamaged EVA suit.

EVA FREE: Completing each of the 4 game environments unlocks an unlimited oxygen version of each environment where players can explore stress-free, take and share screenshots and stream their gameplay sessions (please note: PS4 Trophies can’t be earned in EVA FREE).

Are there trophies in ADR1FT?

Yes.

Who created the music for ADR1FT?

ADR1FT utilizes several well-known classical piano pieces that were performed by Brian Bell of Weezer.

ADR1FT also has several original music pieces composed and performed by Adam Orth.

What can I expect from ADR1FT?

Our goal for ADR1FT is to give you the ultimate astronaut-in-peril fantasy. We want to blow you away with stunning visuals, challenge you with zero-g movement and physics, scare you with the danger of space and most importantly: tell you an emotional story about normal, human characters within a rich, deep universe and fiction.

Το παιχνίδι μου άρεσε πάρα πολύ.
Είναι ο ορισμός του "όταν μεγαλώσω θέλω να γίνω αστροναύτης".

Σου μεταδίδει εξαιρετικά την αίσθηση αιώρησης στο διάστημα. Έχει φοβερά γραφικά και δημιουργεί τέτοιες εικόνες που σε βυθίζουν στην ατμόσφαιρα (ή μάλλον έξω από αυτή :p ).
Το gameplay περιορίζεται στην μετακίνηση ανάμεσα στα διαλυμένα κομμάτια του διαστημικού σταθμού, στην διαχείριση του οξυγόνου που χρειάζεται ο χαρακτήρας μας και στην ενεργοποίηση διακοπτών ώστε να λειτουργήσουν διάφορα συστήματα. Επίσης υπάρχουν κάποια collectibles να πάρουμε και logs μέσω των οποίων αποκαλύπτεται το τι έγινε.

Στα αρνητικά, μερικές φορές είναι δύσκολο να καταλάβεις που ακριβώς πρέπει να πας μέσω του HUD, καθώς επίσης εντόπισα και κάποια θεματάκια με το texture streaming *Unreal 4 είναι αυτή*. Ο ήχος είναι αρκετά καλός με εξαίρεση ένα συγκεκριμένο κομμάτι "μουσικής" κοντά στο τέλος.

Συνολικά είναι μια ιδιαίτερη εμπειρία που απευθύνεται σε λάτρεις του διαστήματος και ταινιών όπως το Apollo 13 και Gravity. Μπορεί να μην περιέχει δραματικά cutscenes και cinematic set pieces αλλά σε βάζει στη στολή του αστροναύτη και στη μοναξιά του διαστήματος με μόνα σημεία αναφοράς την γη και τα συντρίμια του διαστημικού σταθμού, με απόλυτη επιτυχία. Είναι επίσης πολύ χαλαρωτικό.

Bonus tip: Κλείστε τη μουσική του παιχνιδιού (σε επόμενο playthrough) και βάλτε να παίζει στο background το soundtrack του Gravity. Αξίζει :D

Mε χάλασε που δεν θα υποστηρίζει VR,
είναι τέτοιο το concept που θα έλεγα ότι παίζεται σχεδόν αποκλειστικά σε VR.



P:S: Νομίζω ότι το thread πρέπει να μεταφερθεί στα PSN Games.

Παίζεται μια χαρά χωρίς VR!
Μάλιστα o Orth είχε πει ότι το παιχνίδι δεν σχεδιάστηκε από την αρχή για το VR. Η υποστήριξη PCVR ήρθε μετά τη συμφωνία για μερική αποκλειστικότητα με το Rift.

Πάντως σε καποιο άλλο tweet για το PSVR είπε "ποτέ μη λες ποτέ"!
Αλλά είναι θέμα της 505 Games που το εκδίδει.

δεν πρόκειται να δούμε VR υποστήριξη ούτε στο Assetto Corsa.

Οπλιστείτε με υπομονή γιατί εγώ δεν την πάλεψα με τα checkpoint....κρίμα για την σχεδίαση του παιχνιδιού. Ήθελα πολύ να το συνεχίσω αλλά όταν χάνω κ με αναγκάζει να κάνω πάλι μεγάλες σχετικά αποστάσεις και με την ψυχή στο στόμα κάθε φορά απλά δεν.... επίσης νομίζω το παράκαναν με το θέμα οξυγόνου δεν προλαβαίνεις ούτε να θαυμάσεις/χαζέψεις το τοπίο γύρω σου. Χωρίς αναισθητικό που έλεγε και ο Τραγκας :p.... κρίμα γιατί το παιχνίδι είναι πανέμορφο....ειδικά όταν βολτάρεις στο διάστημα.
