Rumor: Resident Evil 4 Classic Edition for PS3 and Xbox 360?

Sketchy details emerged early last week about the possibility of yet another version of Resident Evil 4 being readied for the marketplace.

Following the success of the game on the GameCube, PlayStation 2, PC and Wii, if the source was to be believed then there is yet another iteration in the works for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, called ‘Resident Evil 4: Classic Edition’. But is this truth or nothing more than an elaborate April Fools’ joke?

According to Web site ‘The Horror is Alive’, this is definitely the truth and nothing but the truth, with Capcom eager to squeeze even more sales out of the highly rated entry into the popular Resident Evil franchise. But rather than merely porting any of the previous editions, it seems Capcom will be pouring even more than before into this next generation update. The original entry on the website states:

“I was sent this goody by a friend who works at Capcom’s San Fransisco building. He spied an artist working on what appeared to be boxart for an upcoming port of Resident Evil 4 for the XBOX 360 and PS3 entitled “Resident Evil 4 Classic Edition”. Details are sketchy, but from what my contact could gather, the game will feature Hunk more than before. When pressed further, they said Hunk would be getting his own story-campaign, similar to Ada’s Separate Ways scenario in the PS2/PC/Wii versions. I’m attempting to get direct captures of the boxart, and not a quick cellphone grab but this will have to do for now. We’ll have more to report on this in the coming days!”

The picture of the PlayStation 3 box art can be seen in this article and more at the source. It seems that, if true, we will be hearing more details about the game in the very near future as the planned release is indeed 2008, most likely to bring some of the Resident Evil fanbase over to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in preparation for the release of Resident Evil 5 in 2009.

However, when asked “Are there any plans for the future to port RE4 on Xbox360 and PS3? Maybe with graphic restyling (720p) and new features…” over on Capcom’s Official Website, the response was thus:

That is what Resident Evil 5 is for. No plans for RE4 on 360 or PS3 at this time.

- Christian Svensson, Capcom Entertainment Inc. - Vice-President of Strategic Planning & Business Development.

The Horror is Alive, though, insists that something is indeed in the works, and has now provided the following two video clips of the supposed game in action. Check them out below:

WORLD OF WARCRAFT COMING TO CONSOLES

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. announces its long-awaited return to console gaming with World of Warcraft: The Molten Core™, a spinoff of the 40-person raid dungeon from its award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), World of Warcraft®. World of Warcraft: The Molten Core will allow players to experience the excitement of the hit raid dungeon in a completely new format, with new challenges and new rewards.

"Blizzard got its start in console gaming, and we've always been excited about returning to this arena," stated Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "Additionally, we've wanted to reintroduce the 40-player raid dungeon experience for some time. With World of Warcraft: The Molten Core, we're able to do both."

World of Warcraft: The Molten Core will include single-player and multiplayer versions, fully loaded with nine different shapes (and possibly colors) representing the current World of Warcraft character classes. A future expansion will introduce a tenth shape, representing the death knight hero class. Blizzard also plans to include a full-featured voice-chat system, as well as a fully customizable user interface that allows players to personalize their joystick button with several different functions. A free attunement cartridge rounds out the offering, providing instant access to the complete World of Warcraft: The Molten Core entertainment experience.

Blizzard's World of Warcraft: The Molten Core Collector's Edition, also announced today, will include tinted cellophane TV overlays, further increasing the array of colors available to players. Additional Collector's Edition features, as well as details on the upcoming World of Warcraft: The Molten Core beta test, will be revealed closer to release. World of Warcraft: The Molten Core will initially be available for the Atari 2600 platform, with plans for additional console systems to be announced in the near future.

Feature: PS3 vs Xbox 360: The release calendar showdown

Microsoft won 2007, but Sony may win the war with a bigger lineup of must-buy games. Read on for the full release calendar showdown!

While the Nintendo Wii is off and running in a different direction (quite successfully), the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are left in a shootout for honor... and exclusive games. A few months ago, we began to notice a shift in the tides after Microsoft unloaded a volley of its biggest exclusive games: games like Halo 3, Mass Effect, and BioShock.
But now it's 2008, and Sony's poised to win the year with a huge list of compelling PlayStation 3 exclusives. Curious to see how the fight will pan out, we formulated a list of exclusive titles for the PS3 and Xbox 360 coming in 2008 and 2009. With Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_3_games)pedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_360_games) and our own notes as sources, we've constructed the definitive release calendar comparison.
But first, a few ground rules. This list will not include multiplatform games, sports titles, or downloadable software; we're focused on exclusive retail games. That means Grand Theft Auto IV is not a factor on this list, so go read about it here (http://www.gamepro.com/microsoft/xbox360/games/previews/164988.shtml).

Sony Corporation has underlined its intention to further cut production costs of its goods and fulfil more orders in an attempt to offset the reductions in export profits caused by the strengthening yen.

The current economic conditions, which have seen the yen make significant gains on the dollar in the past year, could impact the company's ability to offer any further price cuts on the PlayStation 3 in the foreseeable future - a move which spurred significant sales in the final quarter of 2007.

"As to the situation of the US dollar's weakness in the medium to long term, we already have a strategy to deal with it," said Ryoji Chubachi, Sony president, according to MSN Money.

"We will lower our production costs as possible as we can and we will choose production sites to cope with the industry's weakness, and in the short term, we will try to accept more orders."

For every JPY 1 gain versus the US dollar, Sony loses around JPY 6 billion (USD 58.3 million / EUR 37.5 million). In the past year the yen has moved from an exchange rate of 111 to the US dollar, to 102.5 - representing a loss of around JPY 51 billion (USD 496 million / EUR 318 million) for Sony.

Sony: 2008 Will Be About PS3 Software, Blu-ray, Network

Sony had some problems early on with PS3, but everything seems to be falling into place these days. A comfortable price point has been located, sales have been outpacing Xbox 360 lately, Blu-ray won, and there's a plethora of exciting games both on the shelves and coming later this year. Naturally, Scott Steinberg, VP of Product Marketing at SCEA, is excited about what's been going on and what's in store for PlayStation 3 in 2008.

"The software lineup is here. I think we're at the point to say we're ecstatic about what we have in 2008. It's finally to the point where there are no standards uncertainties, so consumers now can evaluate us on the skills and attributes of our lineup, and we've got an incredibly diverse lineup," he excited told GD.BIZ (http://www.gamedaily.com/) in a recent interview.
He's equally enthused about the network.

"On the network side, we've stated that we're in a closed beta now for Home, we'll be rolling out functionality later this year, both for the Network and making Home public to others," Steinberg added.

And as for Blu-ray's victory over HD DVD, he said that "I think it's a huge win and it gives us a lot of momentum and also gives us momentum to stop talking about standards and start talking about games."

Perhaps the PS3 slogan these days should be "2008: Let's get ready to rumble!"

3D First On Blu-ray

Concerned you might not be able to experience the Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour (http://www.cinematical.com/tag/hannahmontana) properly in your home theater? Worry no more, the biggest 3D movie ever is making a HD first, when it hits Blu-ray August 19 it will include 2D and 3D (http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/3d) viewing options. If 1080p 3D video isn't enough, the live concert flick also features uncompressed 7.1 PCM audio, a tour documentary and two bonus tracks. No word if it will come with requisite glasses or anything else necessary to get that extra D With a movie that did unprecedented numbers at the box office, this is sure to be one of the year's biggest releases and with never-before-seen options, might be a good reason to share the home theater with your favorite 'tween.Πηγή (http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/04/05/hannah-montana-makes-a-3d-first-on-blu-ray/)

Metal Gear Solid 5 will not be made by Hideo Kojima

In an interview with Hideo Kojima, creator of the series, he was asked if this was the last game in the series and even if he may not be making another one himself, he said he’d produce more spin-off PSP handheld games and hinted that a Metal Gear Solid 5 sequel might be a possibility without him.

With gamers just soaking up every last detail about the upcoming game, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, another revelation was made when several retailers and collectible shops have put out 20th Anniversary Metal Gear Solid collectible figurines for sale.

The action figures pay homage to the Metal Gear Solid Series, starting with Metal Gear Solid 2. The original Metal Gear Solid figures were released years ago from McFarlane Toys and were based around the characters in Metal Gear Solid 1. The collectibles from Medicom Toy Corporation come in five flavors, MGS 2 Solid Snake, MGS 2 Raiden, MGS 3 "Naked Snake" (Big Boss), MGS 4 Octocamo masked Old Snake, and MGS 4 unmasked Old Snake. With very few variants in price, all the figurines cost roughly 18 USD from Amazon.com and make a great collector's item for any fan of the series. Check out some pictures of the detailed action figures below.

Possible Link Between Home & Store Updates

There may be a link between the two major updates for today which include HOME's "Huge" update and the Playstation Stores "Biggest" update. They MAY be updating HOME to make it more smoother for a open beta which can be launched tonight at 11pm PCT or this Thursday. Sony did say that we should expect a huge surprise with the store so this may be it! OR it could be 10 AWSOME Rockband songs like every other week! OOOO GOODIES CANT WAIT -_- but lets wait and see because we could possibly be playing HOME THIS WEEK!

PS3 Siren Game Confirmed Early (http://kotaku.com/380281/ps3-siren-game-confirmed-early)

http://kotaku.com/assets/resources/2008/04/siren_confirmed.jpg Yup, just like we and pretty much everyone else thought, that blood red countdown clock (http://jun.2chan.net/31/src/1208328223876.jpg) was counting down to a PS3 Siren game. The upcoming issue of Japanese game magazine Famitsu confirms it. Dubbed Siren New Translation, the PLAYSTATION 3 survival horror title is currently 90 percent done and apparently a reworking of the first game. It will go on sale this summer on July 24th, and a demo will be released on April 24th. There's still 45 hours left on the blood red clock. So... Not much of a countdown, huh?

Heavenly Sword 2, XMB and more rumours from the Official Magazine

By now we should know that the PlayStation Official Magazine is out, and the big news is its review for Grand Theft Auto 4 (perfect score I might add). However their rumour machine, featuring ‘Insider whispers’, also provides interesting reading: - Want more on the Playstation store? Well bite size episodic gaming will hit “before the end of the year”
- Heavenly Sword 2 will feature a male lead and will take place ten years after the original (as long as Kai is still involved and we are still able to play ‘twing-twang’).
- XMB functionality in-game – in time for summer!
- Ready at Dawn, the now expert PSP developer, is now working on a PS3 game
- I’ll just quote this one: “The bizarre Linger In Shadows, complete with flying dogs and deadly black smoke, will be a PSN download”

Xbox 360 almost burns down house

In Little Rock, Arkansas, investigators believe that a residential fire Monday afternoon was caused by an Xbox 360 console.
While no one was at the home, the house nearly burned down as flames charred the interior.
“My Xbox 360 has the rings of death, which means something gone wrong you have to send it back for repair. Generally it’s over heating inside,” gamer Carl Olson told Today’s THV (http://www.todaysthv.com/video/news/player.aspx?aid=64419&bw=).
According to investigators, the source of the fire was traced to the power cord of an Xbox 360.
“It was melted and it looked like they had it against the wall in on edge and things like that need a little space to dissipate heat,” Little Rock Fire Department Captain Jason Weaver said.
Back in 2005, Microsoft began providing replacement power cords (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox/console/powercordreplacement.htm) to Xbox 360s, citing fire concerns.
“It seems really unlikely. I’ve been gaming for years and I haven’t seen anything like that,” Olson said.
The Fire Marshal estimates more than $100,000 worth of property damage to the house.

PS3 to break-even earlier than expected? (http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=27037)

Nikkko Citigroup has upgraded its rating for Sony as it believes they will break even on the PS3 this August. Analysts had previously predicted that this would happen in November. Sony in the past have said that the PS3 will only break-even when both the Cell processor and RSX graphics chips have been reduced in size. Coincidentally, previous rumors have suggested that a Slim PS3 would be coming this Autumn.

Sony increases PS3 price by $25-30 USD in Asia

When other consoles are going down in price by as much as $100 in some regions, Sony has increased the price of the Playstation 3 in Hong Kong by over $25 USD, with absolutely no explanation. In Singapore, the price went up by $30 USD. Other Asian Playstation sites do not list their MSRPs.

There are no bundles to speak of, no new SKUs, or anything like that. Just a blatant price increase.

Ban for sharing PSN games? (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fps3-sense.nl%2Fshowthread.php%2Fban-voor-delen-psn-games-220.html%3Ft%3D220&langpair=nl%7Cen&hl=nl&ie=UTF8)

Some gamers have noticed that after the parts of the Call of Duty maps they could no longer download maps.
Sony would be the PSN IDs and scanning people at those games.
The found that people will then exchanged games no longer able to download again (compared to the usual 5 times).

To make this more than 3x does your PSN ID will be banned, so you no longer can game on the PSN or demos can download from the store.

The Witcher to Consoles, Enhanced Edition in Aug/Sept. (http://www.actiontrip.com/rei/comments_news.phtml?id=050508_4)

http://www.actiontrip.com/images/the_witcher_aug.jpg

CD Projekt told us back in April that the company will be delaying the release of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - a fine-tuned version of the game with new content, which was originally slated to arrive this month. Now, word has reached us that TW: Enhanced Edition is going to arrive either during August or in September 2008.

The developers also revealed that a console port of the game is making excellent progress, albeit they couldn't give a specific launch date for that one.

On a related note, when we talked to CD Projekt, they said that the Enhanced Edition definitely increases the game's overall replayability.

"The Enhanced Version gives much more diversity, details and immersion, so I'm sure many gamers will return to slightly different world, with a lot of new small things to discover and enjoy. On the other hand, they won't have to struggle against some inconveniences and troubles, they had in the first edition of The Witcher," said Chief Designer Michal Madej.

Valve: We're not PS3 developers, but Left 4 Dead might be on PS3 ... maybe (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/05/05/valve-were-not-ps3-developers-but-left-4-dead-might-be-on-ps3/)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.ps3fanboy.com/media/2008/05/425_left4dead_turtlerockstudios.jpg

Most Valve Software fans would know well enough that the company is primarily a developer for PC games and a bit of Xbox on the side. So, it's not too startling to hear Valve Marketing VP Doug Lombardi say something along the lines of "We're not PS3 developers" -- it's just a great headline. What is interesting, however, is the possibility of Left 4 Dead, currently set only for PC and Xbox 360 release, getting ported to the PS3.

Talking to CVG, Lombardi reconfirmed that Valve still sees Left 4 Dead for PC and 360 only; however, he did leave some glint of hope for a PS3 port in the future. When asked if EA would bring the game over much like what the company did with The Orange Box, Lombardi replied "Left 4 Dead doesn't have that guaranteed appeal yet - it's a new IP. If you mention a new Half-Life, people want to make as many versions of it as possible. If Left 4 Dead is big, then we may see a PS3 version later, or if and when we do a sequel, people may be more interested in that."

In short, it all comes down to financial risk for whoever wants to take on the challenge of porting. As far as Valve is concerned, they're not the ones who will do it; someone else will do it if they want to, that is. Hopefully, Left 4 Dead does well on the other platforms; we could always use a zombie shooter on the PS3.

Earlier today we were already informed that a console port of the game is making excellent progress, albeit they couldn't give a specific launch date for that one, also there wasn't given a specific next-gen console.
But it look's like there already is an PS3 version planned.
Cause CD Projekt, the makers of 'The Witcher' are actually searching for a PS3 programmer.

Sony trademarks Qore, an "interactive magazine" (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/05/05/sony-trademarks-qore-an-interactive-magazine/)

Whenever we hear about a new trademark being applied for, we feel we should remind everyone that it doesn't necessarily mean that whatever was trademarked will actually exist. The trademark Qore was filed by SCEA (http://www.siliconera.com/2008/05/05/qore-an-upcoming-interactive-playstation-magazine-from-sony/), whose description contains "computer services, namely, providing interactive online magazine and entertainment in the field of video games." Sounds like the PlayStation Blog wasn't enough!

This trademark has something to do with the PlayStation brand, but we aren't sure if it's going to be specifically related to the PS3. It might just be Sony getting ready to push a new online magazine that'll function similar to IGN, or it might be plotting some sort of downloadable magazine onto the PlayStation Store. The information bar that nobody uses might be connected. Then again, Qore could remain unused by Sony for years. Speculate away!Πηγή (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/05/05/sony-trademarks-qore-an-interactive-magazine/)

Fumito Ueda to speak at Nordic Game 2008
The organisers of the Nordic Game conference, being held in Malmo, Sweden from 14 - 15 May, have announced that Fumito Ueda has signed up to speak at the event.

Ueda is best known for creating PS2 titles ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. He will discuss creative innovation and new game niches at Nordic Game's disruptive design session.

Also at the session will be Keiichiro Toyama, creator of Siren and Silent Hill, Rob Kay, lead designer on Rock Band, and Tameem Antoniades, co-founder of Ninja Theory and creative director of Heavenly Sword.

MotorStorm 2: 16 tracks, Home confirmed

Nigel Kershaw, game director for MotorStorm 2, has confirmed that the new racer will have a "strong presence" on Home when the service eventually launches this year.

Breaking the silence on the lush-looking racer, Kershaw said, "Home is a really exciting area for all PlayStation 3 developers. It's going to have a huge impact on the gaming public when it comes out."

Without giving too much away, he added: "I think it's going to really start binding the PS3 online community together. I'm really looking forward to watching it progress, and MotorStorm will be a strong presence from the off."

Advertisement:

Kershaw also confirmed that the final game will have 16 tracks - twice as many as the original at launch - with far more interaction in each one.

"The environments are much more interactive in the new game. This is especially true of the new track elements - the water, vegetation, lava and so on. And again, their effects differ from one vehicle class to the next," he said.

Improved physics and a greater emphasis on course destruction can be expected, thanks to a totally new engine powering the game:

"The engine is completely new. For MotorStorm we were working on a brand new console with brand new tools and libraries. They have all now matured a bit, and of course we now have more experience and knowledge of how to get the console to work to its enormous potential," Kershaw said.

"So rather than try to improve upon the previous tech base, we built a new one using what we'd learnt during the previous game's development."

With all the excitement going on with PlayStation Day in Europe, we're going to turn your attention to another conference coming up soon. The Nordic Game 2008 conference. It's a little more technical of a conference, but it's still got some great developers giving speeches. Sony's own Fumito Ueda, creator of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus will be taking part in the "Game Creation and Technology" program. This program focuses on new game niches and continuing to innovate creatively.

Other celebrated panelists in the discussion include the creator of Silent Hill and Siren, Keiichiro Toyama, Rock Band's Roby Kay and Ninja Theory co-founder, Tameem Antoniades. We don't really expect any announcements out of these folk, but they might bring something new to the table when giving their presentation. Like whatever direction Ueda is taking with his third game. We'll keep you posted.

Pandemic conquers Middle-earth with new LOTR title

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.ps3fanboy.com/media/2008/05/425_conquest.jpg (http://pandemicstudios.com/conquest/)

Pandemic Studios is spearheading a new Middle-earth based game entitled: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest. The team behind the Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefront II titles is tasked to breathe life into the Tolkien fantasy world with this new action game. Can they do it? Josh Resnick, co-founder and general manager of Pandemic Studios thinks so: "Our experience creating massive, rich, action-packed games means that The Lord of the Rings: Conquest will give fans exactly what they want: full control of the blade, bow, and magic to fight its epic battles any way they want -- even if they choose to play from the evil side."

Interesting PR-laced point there Mr. Resnick. We're sure intrigued about the "evil side" gameplay, though; the ability to play as an Oliphaunt, the Balrog, and Sauron do sound rather wicked (in a good way). Interested in more? Then check out the game's official website (http://pandemicstudios.com/conquest/). We had a chat to Vanessa about what it's like to be the first female Editor of Official PlayStation® Magazine, what the coolest part of her job is, what her favourite games are and where she sees the future of PLAYSTATION®3.

......

15. What are the top 5 PLAYSTATION®3 games you're most excited about?

1. LittleBigPlanet
2 Motorstorm 2
3. MGS4
4. An unannounced title coming to PS3 for the first time
5. Another unannounced title coming to PS3 that'll BLOW you away

Sorry, not meaning to rub it in but OMG!

Hideo Kojima takes a complete 180 in relation to his recent comments about being unsatisfied with Metal Gear Solid 4 and has reiterated his statements in new fashion. Below is the interview quotes given by Kojima and how he truly feels about the hardware he’s been developing for.

"On the internet, there's stuff saying "Hideo Kojima" isn't satisfied with the PS3. I'd like to talk about that today. I just got back from Paris and did 15 interviews and everyone asked me about it, did I say that. The meaning of what I said has totally been changed, made totally different. Today, I'd like to talk about that. Why did it turn into that? When I'm doing an interview, I answer in Japanese, and I can't control how the writer will interpret that into English... What I say is then translated in English, and the writer then changes that into their own words and writes that. So, right there, the meaning of what I say changes a lot."

He continued on throughout the interview taking unexpected shots at the personalities of Americans in a generalized statement.

"I am Japanese, so I try to be modest. I'm especially modest person. I dont wish to brag about it to say "I am the amazing Metal Gear guy" or to say "This is the best one", just like how Americans brag stuff like this... That's why i interview in Japanese, and Mr. Sai (translator) translates my side of the inteviews very well in English. Westerners do not have a tradition of modesty. And so, the statements are translated correctly, but the original meaning is totally different. And those statements are on a totally different website and the meaning totally changes."
"Regarding my recent comment about my disappointment with MGS4, the comments derived from the article "MGS4, Inside The Biggest PS3 Game" to the post "Hideo Disappointed with MGS4 (http://kotaku.com/381412/kojima-disappointed-with-metal-gear-solid-4)." It's become totally different. This was in English, and here's where it gets strange. Japanese readers then translated that in Japanese and put it on their websites, writing things like "Oh, the PS3 is dead." Then that spread through the internet and now people are writing things like "Hideo Kojima Is Making MGS4 on the PS3." This is no good... It's funny how others think "Did Hideo really say that?" then ask me, and my answer is obviously "No" but then... I guess I am responsible for all of the articles...

Now I'm going to say what I really wanted to say, and this is what I told those 15 reporters:
Let's say this developer is making hardware, in this case a game, and that hardware is at the level of a car. And when looking at the specs, the developer claims the car is able to fly. Now there is no stopping when you say, "This is a car that can fly." When you claim that it can fly, the speculation grows from "oh so it can FLY?!!!" And the developer would set his goals higher. The specualtion is that if the car flies, then it should reach a MACH speed...but it doesnt stop there...it'd go beyond the specualtion of then "it should go into space!" with all the excitement around, and the developer would go deeply into making the car going into space... however, he'll come up to the public and say the car reaches the MACH speed, but it fails to go into the space. But he shouldn't give up, because for a car to even reach a mach speed and go into air is revolutionary. I wished to convey my thoughts like that, but I guess it didn't work very well.

Recently I've been thinking about not giving interviews. That's not my job. My job is making games... The next time I interview in America, I will just say "MGS4 is the best, the end." It's not cool for a Japanese to speak so blatantly, and I don't want to say that. But if I don't, things like this [above] can happen... If you look at MGS4, I think you'll understand... MGS4 isn't exactly my property, so I don't have a total control over it and sometimes I get confused with it. Some may be disappointed the way I say things, but I do release the game with confidence. In fact that what I have been doing, not just this PS3 game, but my previous PS2 titles. I always reached for the higher goal and I try to go for it... Things like this often happen with Japanese newspapers. Where they take only the choice quotes. They don't change what you say, but the meaning's different, and the meaning changes. I'm always careful while giving interviews. Even in my company, im learning a lot about media training, but I wanted to do more than just that and here i am with the interview, but if things like above keep happening, I won't do anymore interviews. I don't get paid for these interviews at all. [jokingly] I won't do them anymore! I've decided! I'll stop doing my podcast! Like that."

Sony confirms November for Home open beta

Ron Festejo, Home’s creative director, has confirmed that Home will enter its open beta phase in November this year.
“Home is currently in a closed beta phase,” he said, speaking at last week’s SCEE PlayStation Day in London. “We have between 8,000 and 10,000 users in this closed beta phase. Around July we’re going to be expanding on the closed beta phase and allowing more people to gradually come in, and then in November this year we’ll be going to the open beta.”
He added: “The extension to the closed beta allows us to have more conversations with our community. We’re very much in close conversations with them. A lot of the changes we’ve done have been the result of feedback. We’ve asked the community a lot of questions, they’ve given us a lot of feedback as to what they think needs improving, and we’re doing that, so it’s managing expectations.”
There’s more in this Eurogamer TV report (http://www.eurogamer.net/tv_video.php?playlist_id=8863), mainly about game-launching in Home, how to set up sessions, and so on. Take a look.Πηγή (http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/05/12/sony-confirms-november-for-home-open-beta/)

RUMOR: Uncharted Movie in the Works - No Comment from Sony

http://news.filefront.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/uncharted_screenshot.jpg

A “source” has stated that a movie adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (http://news.filefront.com/search/uncharted/) is currently being written. Being such a well received game it is not too surprising that Hollyweird might want to try and cash in on the popularity of it - but with the track record of videogame/movie tie-ins and movies based on popular video games usually being a pile of steamy horse manure - it makes me wonder how they are going to screw this one up -providing that this information is actually true and not just some silly rumor.
Supposedly though, this “well-placed source” has confirmed that the film rights to Naughty Dog’s game has been snatched up by Atlas Entertainment (Fallen, Three Kings), and when asked about the possibility of a movie starring Nathan Drake, Sony had no comment. Usually when “no comment” is given as an answer you can usually bet your auntie’s great big panties that what they really meant was “yes” but that they do not want to ruin the horrible surprise.
If this is indeed true, who do you think should play Nathan Drake? 1Up thinks it should be Hal Sparks, and if you do not agree with them then you are a monster. Well, call me a monster all you like, but I think that Josh Holloway (Sawyer) from Lost would make a great Nathan Drake. Yeah, sure he is blond, and sometimes resembles Kid Rock, but he could pull it off. He is smarmy enough, handsome enough, and could easily get away with the half-tuck any day of the week. Of course, I am sure I am in the minority on that suggestion.

Rumor: PlayStation trophies to hit in June

According to our PS3forum industry insider (http://ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=139292), Sony will be releasing Firmware 2.4 sometime in June around the launch of Metal Gear Solid 4. Also mentioned is that the new Firmware 2.4 will include some of the first PlayStation Trophies. *Note that these will be the 2D trophies found on the XMB and not the 3D trophies coming in Home later this year.

"The SDK 2.40 will be available to dev. late in June. The actual Firmware 2.40 might see the light of day a lot sooner (my personal guess would be launch aligned or slightly before MGS4 )." - PS3Forum Insider

Further into the thread, they state that the Firmware 2.4 will also include improved Audio/Video communication, however don't get your hopes up that this is for in-game XMB. As developers will receive their 2.4 debug units in June, expect that only first party Sony titles to have trophies first.Πηγή (http://www.psu.com/Rumor--PlayStation-trophies-to-hit-in-June-News--a0003642-p0.php)

Now that Metal Gear Solid 4 is in the can, what's next for Hideo Kojima? That's that rumored Snatcher remake with No More Heroes creator Suda51. Anything else? Says Kojima:

I would like to say that Zone of the Enders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zone_of_the_Enders) is quite near the priority list… [after MGS4] it might be good to change to outer space or robots or things like that for a change.

Metal Gear Solid 4 used the Playstation 3's high capabilities to its capacity

“Metal Gear Solid 4 surpasses the scale of its previous titles in all aspects, including their story, visuals, and music. Using the PlayStation 3’s high capabilities to its capacity, I believe that our developers have realized Metal Gear Solid 4 without any compromise.”

Tanaka added that the company is keen to explore the capabilities of the PS3 further, and will continue to develop more titles for the system.

“We believe that the PlayStation 3 still has some undiscovered capabilities, and there’s still many points where we can be more clever to take its full advantage,” he said. “We will continue to create more good products in the future.”

Porsche to feature in GT5? "Probably", says Yamauchi

Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi has hinted that the upcoming fifth instalment in the critically acclaimed Gran Turismo series will include cars manufactured by Porsche.

Speaking with the Official PlayStation Magazine, Yamauchi commented, “We’ll have most - no, all of the major manufacturers.”

When pushed to further clarify on the possibility of the Porsche brand appearing in Gran Turismo 5, he simply stated, “probably.”

Earlier this year, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) revealed that GT5 would not be released for another year. Its precursor, GT5: Prologue, is currently available to purchase worldwide on Blu-ray and PlayStation Network.

Two men have been arrested and found guilty for being a part of quite possibly the biggest PS3 heist in history. Partizan Zejak and Nard Paloka, two men originally from Albania (uh oh, GTA IV jokes abound ... ) were unanimously convicted for the theft of 1,440 PlayStation 3 consoles in Grange Park, Northampton, UK.

The incident occurred in May of last year at a NYK Logistics warehouse where Paloka and Zejak used to work. NYK Logistics, a contracted distributor for Sony, said that 25 pallets containing PS3 consoles went missing since then and have not been recovered. The amount of merchandise stolen totaled up to £700,000 (US $1.4 million). That's a huge pay off; way more than any GTA IV mission could ever offer. Nice try guys, but now you're paying for it.

Suikoden Coming To PSN Soon? (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/876/876356p1.html)
ESRB lists classic title in latest report.

RPG fans decrying the lack of their favorite genre might have a classic title coming soon to their PS3. In today's ESRB report of upcoming titles, Suikoden was listed for the PS3 and PSP. This means that the title should be available across the PSN, and should feature remote play capability to take the adventure on Sony's handheld. While no release date was given, the re-release of the title was rated E for Everyone.

In case you're not familiar with Suikoden, you control the son of a general destined to seek out 108 warriors to defeat a corrupt government and bring peace to the land. Not only did the game feature duels and large turn based battles, but also packed a large amount of depth into its magic and combat system. While there weren't any other classic titles announced within the report, the impending release of Suikoden could light the way for other classic PSone titles to land on the PSN.

Το Mass Effect 2 στο Playstation 3; (http://www.gamelife.gr/cPages/news/2126/%D4%EF-Mass-Effect-2-%F3%F4%EF-Playstation-3;.htm)

http://www.gamelife.gr/admin/news/images_large/masseffect.jpg

PSN Cards Must Hit Soon

Reader Josh was doing a spot of shopping in his local Meijer the other day and came across a couple of price stickers - for the long-awaited PlayStation Network (http://kotaku.com/tag/playstation-network/) pre-paid card - sitting in the aisle of the gaming section. No cards, just the stickers. The one pictured is for a $20 card, while Josh says there was also a sticker up for a $50 card as well. Sony are still quiet on a precise release date for these, but with this information heading out to retailers they hopefully won't be too far away.

PS3 was on "life support," says Stringer

Posted on May 29th, 2008 at 05:56 EDT
Sony Corporation Chairman Howard Stringer has conceded that the PlayStation 3 was on “life support” as a result of the machine’s shaky start, with high development costs proving nearly "catastrophic” for the Japanese electronics giant.

Speaking during The Wall Street Journal's D: All Things Digital Conference yesterday, Stringer noted that things have started to pick up for the company with prices coming down and software turning over profit for the platform holder.

He observed that upcoming titles would use the "full capacity" of the PS3, assuring they would look "spectacular."

Stringer also remarked that a direct reference to "Betamax 2” would have been engraved on his tombstone, had the company lost the high definition format war against Toshiba’s HD-DVD disc.

However, he denied that Sony ultimately won the battle as a result of paying movie studios the most money, adding, "We were not in the check-writing competition.”

In-Game XMB is coming! (http://www.gaming-age.com/news/2008/5/29-48)

We've finally received word that the long awaited, and much rumored, PlayStation 3 Firmware Update 2.40 is indeed the real deal and is said to be coming relatively soon. Many of the most requested features, such as a universal friends list and in-game messaging will be included, in addition to a few rather nice surprises (*cough*soundtracks*cough*). We definitely can't divulge all of the details, but trust us, it's coming. We aren't yet 100% sure of the actual release date, but all signs point to sometime in June. We're guesing that Sony will probably detail 2.40 in the coming weeks.

Exclusive: Info On The New Sony PS3 Controller (http://playstationlifestyle.net/2008/05/31/exclusive-info-on-the-new-sony-ps3-controller/)

http://sev1512.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/ps3mote.jpg?w=130&h=300

It has been brought to my attention that PlayStation Underground held a secret focus group earlier this year. A small group of PS3 owners were sent to a facility in ****** ****, California to test a new PlayStation product in development.
Once inside the testing facility, these PS3 owners were shown a mini-tripod that stood about 12 inches high. and what looked like 4 black PS3 “wiimotes”. Well they were essentially “wiimotes” for the PS3, but didn’t need a “nunchuck” attachment. I will refer to them as “PS3motes” for now on.
You can have up to 4 of these “PS3motes” connected at one time. A demonstrator at this focus group was there showing off the “PS3motes” capabilities, along with some mini-games to play. The mini games ranged from tennis, to fencing, to a “really really cool” paintball game. The demonstrator even used the “PS3mote” to play “Quake” on his laptop.
The “PS3mote” is said to be incredibly responsive and accurate. When the demonstrator crouched while playing the paintball game, the character on screen did as well.MORE:http://playstationlifestyle.net/2008/05/31/exclusive-info-on-the-new-sony-ps3-controller/

In-game XMB coming June 10?

Posted on June 1st, 2008 at 00:31 EDT
Earlier this month we reported (http://www.psu.com/%5BUPDATED%5D-PlayStation-trophies-to-hit-in-June--a0003642-p0.php) that trophies would be coming to the PlayStation 3 in the next system update, firmware 2.4. Recently other news outlets have been reporting similar tips, stating that not only will trophies be available, but full in-game XMB and use of custom in-game soundtracks.

According to Gaming-Age.com (http://www.gaming-age.com/news/2008/5/29-48), PS3 users can expect such features as universal friends lists and in-game messaging. Also it's been confirmed that Sony already has a title with trophy support on the way. Sony's Official PlayStation website (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/PixelJunk_Eden) for upcoming Pixeljunk title, PixelJunk™ Eden, has been listed to support the new trophy system.

http://www.psu.com/media/pause.jpg

"The SDK 2.40 will be available to dev. late in June. The actual Firmware 2.40 might see the light of day a lot sooner (my personal guess would be launch aligned or slightly before MGS4 )." - stated PSU’s forum insider.

Also with the addition of improved Audio/Video communication, it's safe to say Sony is finally providing it's users with a better online community, nearing the quality of Microsoft's Xbox Live.

Stay tuned to PSU.com for more information.

UPDATE:

Videogaming247 (http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/05/30/ps3-firmware-240-in-game-xmb-user-music-and-trophies-will-not-work-with-all-ps3-titles/)has obtained some new tidbits of information regarding the above story.

-Sony is currently shifting through the PlayStation 3's library of games in order to see if the XMB is fully compatible or not. It is expected the new menu system, in-game messaging etc will function in all games, though the current black menu screen will likely be retained for the majority of titles.

-User music is only included in new development tools, which have only just been distributed to coders. Therefore, existing games won't utilize the feature unless they are patched to do so.

-The same applies to the new trophy system; developers have only just obtained the tools necessary to input the feature into their software, so it'll be a while until they show up in games.

-Some elements of the XMB won't be usable in-game until after the next firmware update, such as the photo viewer.

UPDATE #2:

According to PlayStationLifestyle.net, (http://playstationlifestyle.net/2008/05/31/240-and-when-to-expect-it/) Sony plans to release firmware 2.4 on June 10, two days prior to the release of Metal Gear Solid 4. This would make sense as we have already stated that the firmware update was planned to arrive around the same time as the launch of MGS4.

Square-Enix Composer: No Musical Limitations On PS3 (http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/3174.html)

No matter how big games get, it always seems as if music isn't given its just due. Gameplay is always the most important aspect of any game (this is an interactive hobby, after all), but the media and gamers often place graphics over sound, and both serve to add atmosphere and ambiance to any title. Well, thanks to a recent interview with Square-Enix's Yoko Shimomura, we find that the PlayStation 3 may offer more than just unbelievable graphics; its sound capabilities are impressive as well.

Music4Games conducted the interview with Shimomura, who was the track composer for Kingdom Hearts and is also working on music for Final Fantasy XIII. She says composing on Sony's next-gen console is actually "much less limiting" than it has been in the past, which is good news for PS3 owners.

"With the PlayStation 2, sound production was mainly based on the internal sound chip, not streaming, so it was a constant battle with memory and limitations," she said. "With the PlayStation 3, I'm expecting to have it sound the way I please, without limitations."

At another point, Shimomura also added that "the sound quality of current generation game hardware is pretty advanced, so it's ideal if we can utilize streaming." We've already had some excellent examples of music so far in this generation, and we expect a lot more to come. Konami's Metal Gear Solid series is always known for excellent music - and MGS4 will deliver again, we're sure - but there's one other legendary franchise that has provided us with some of the best scores in history: Final Fantasy. Will it be any surprise to anyone when FFXIII sports some of the highest quality compositions available? Nope.

Sony introducing monthly 'Qore' episodes to PSN on June 5 (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/sony-introducing-monthly-qore-episodes-to-psn-on-june-5/)

1 Comment (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/sony-introducing-monthly-qore-episodes-to-psn-on-june-5/#comments) by Ludwig Kietzmann (http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/ludwig-kietzmann/) Jun 3rd 2008 6:20AM
Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3 (http://ps3.joystiq.com/)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/qore-announcement.jpg

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced an exclusive development agreement with Future US, Inc., publisher of PlayStation: The Official Magazine, to introduce Qore, "a highly interactive, monthly original program that covers the world inside PlayStation," to the PlayStation 3 on June 5. The "interactive online magazine" term that was first trademarked by Sony (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/sony-trademarks-interactive-magazine-qore/) a few weeks ago seems to be a fitting description of the program slash show, which will provide subscribers with a monthly dose of "exclusive multimedia news, developer interviews, in-depth game previews and behind-the-scene looks at the hottest PLAYSTATION games," as well as special game demos, betas, add-ons and other interactive tidbits.

Now, you'll have noted the word, "subscribers," in the previous paragraph. The first episode of Qore will be available on the PlayStation Store for the "introductory price" of $2.99, with annual subscriptions (providing 13 episodes) costing $24.99. For a limited time, annual subscribers will also receive a free copy of David Jaffe's Calling All Cars.

Sony labels Qore as "truly interactive," stating that members will be able to access and view the content as they wish, with multiple windows, picture-in-picture and other features altering the presentation. Oh, and it's hosted by our favorite high school detective and vampire slayer, Veronica Belmont (http://www.veronicabelmont.com/). See for yourself in a preview video over at the PlayStation Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/06/03/introducing-qore-taking-you-behind-the-curtain-with-playstation/).

The first episode of Qore will feature "exclusive and never-before released content" on several upcoming PS3 games, including SOCOM:US. Navy SEALs Confrontation, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Secret Agent Clank, Soul Calibur 4 and Afro Samurai. It will also include a SOCOM: Confrontation theme, art galleries and an invitation to the shooter's upcoming beta.

PS2 backwards compatibility for the 40GB PS3 in October? (http://playstation.ingame.de/content.php?c=79310&s=429)

We have hot pieces of news for you! In a discussion between us and Sony an import merchant from the USA, which import to Germany, we experienced that the 40GB is to become downward compatible variant of the PS3 in October to PS2 plays. The whole is to go via firmware an update of.

Thus our contact man added joking that he had get rid now immediately all 60GB of models, which he has still on supply, since they would suffer a noticeable depreciation after publication of the firmware. This sounds quite plausible, since many seize to around some more expensive 60GB model only due to the downward compatibility, which with same functionality of the 40GB of model then would become void.

On the question, how this will look from technical side, us it was insured that this was to take place “to 100% by means of software emulation”. According to the dealer is planned the firmware for October, to one hundred per cent it cannot assure this however.

We can likewise no warranty for the correctness of this message give to want to drive the fact out however that Sony announced recently, also PS2 of plays over the PSN make this step nevertheless very probably.

We hold you with new information up to date.

Sony stops work on Eight Days and The Getaway (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/sony-cancels-eight-days-and-the-getaway)

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that it has cancelled production on two PlayStation 3 titles that were in development at the Sony London Studio - Eight Days and The Getaway.

A statement from the Corporation read as follows: "It has been agreed that production of both Eight Days and The Getaway will cease immediately due to the redistribution of resources and budget.

"This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resource should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion.

Sony says it will now start running ads in PlayStation 3 games. Sony has reached an agreement with marketing firm IGA Worldwide (http://www.igaworldwide.com/) to provide dynamic in-game ads for the PlayStation 3. Shortly after the announcement, IGA Worldwide announced a deal making IGA Worldwide the exclusive ad provider for PS3 games developed and published by industry giant EA. Games most likely to be effected by this deal are EA Sports games as well as racing games like Need for Speed and Burnout. The move by Sony is most likely to counteract Microsoft’s buy out of advertising firm Massive (http://www.massiveincorporated.com/) and then creating a similar exclusive deal providing advertising for Xbox 360 games. In-game advertising is a growing trend, with dynamic ads the new money maker for game publishers. Dynamic ads are places in the game that do not have a designated ad on the game disc, but can be provided with an ad such as an upcoming movie release or other time sensitive ads. This results in much more revenue for game makers, since companies need to keep paying for the advertisements like TV commercials rather than a one-shot ad that will always be on the game disc. Sony seems to be hitting the console advertising market pretty hard recently, with the release today of the first episode of Qore. Sony seems to be trying to squeeze every penny it can out of the PS3.

Gran Turismo vs. Forza Motorsport : Ultimate Comparison

For people unaware about these racing series, you should know they are probably the best racing simulations in account for realism. Gran Turismo is the PlayStation exclusive series and Forza Motorsport is the Xbox loyalist. They are not NFS-ish titles giving a laid-back and blissful driving. Gran Turismo is a completely settled franchise now whereas Forza Motorsport is a brand new series having only two titles till date.

Metal Gear Solid to be released on PSN

Along with further rumours that they are also planning to launch a software update with MGS4 to include cross media bar integration and those infamous trophies, it seems this is another rumoured aspect of the MGS saga.

PS3 exclusives sell 45% better than multiplatform releases (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/06/12/ps3-exclusives-sell-45-better-than-multiplatform-releases/)

PS3 fanboys don't like to share, it seems. According to EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich, PS3 owners prefer exclusives on their systems. In fact, a title that is exclusive to PS3 will sell 45% better on the system than a multiplatform title. Exclusives on both the Wii and Xbox 360, according to the analyst, only have a "small increase" over multiplatform titles.

Sony Designs New PS3 Controller

Sony has designed a new PS3 controller that is designed to break.
The new controller, which is supposed to be the answer to the Wii, is designed to 'break apart' into two individual units that have remote-like motion-sensing functionality.
Working units have apparently been delivered to development partners but no one has mentioned when it will be in shops, and Sony is staying quiet.
This means that man plus dog in the blog sphere has been speculating on what it will look like. Kotaku said that the controller will have a small device that attaches in the body which can be worn.
The big idea is that you can stick them on the hands to move a character's hands in-game or four on the hands and feet.
However there seems to be a bit of a dispute going on in the blog sphere over whether or not the controller can merge into a single controller.
So far the PS3's Sixaxis controller is the only thing that has motion-sensing functionality and it is only a shadow of what Nintendo's Wii Remote and nunchuck controller can manage.

Question: Just how long will a free PSN last?

A gaming site known as Slicegaming has raised the all-interesting question of just how long will the PS3's online service (PSN) remain free for? The network is closing on its two year birthday and Sony hasn't been making rapid advances on its features for PSN, recent interviews have indicated Sony is planning to roll out some big features, but all of which are believed to likely result in the service no longer being free for the end user as they require continuous investment in support. Therefore, the question looms... just how long will PSN be free for as it tries to get closer to XBL?

But PSN is closing in on its two year birthday and as of late has been making rapid advances to the previously feature-less service. Rumours have been swirling for months that an in-game messaging system would be implemented some time this summer along with a custom soundtrack feature, similar to that of Xbox Live. Also, the virtual network HOME appears to have a firm release date in the fall, and it looks as if PSN will soon be getting its own version of Video Marketplace. Here’s what Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s President David Reeves had to say when asked about a video on demand service:

"I can’t give you a time but it is not in the distant future, it will be within this calendar year."

Clearly Sony is trying to catch up as quickly as they can and if all this can get done by the end of the year, we may have a new online leader. Here is the full article by IGN UK.

The thing is all these features will cost big money. And Sony can’t keep PSN a decent service if they continue to keep it free, out of the goodness of their hearts.http://www.slicegaming.com/article-55-How-long-will-a-free-PSN-last.html

Next year will be the "year of differentiation", claims Yoshida (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/06/17/next-year-will-be-the-year-of-differentiation-claims-yoshida/)

As the new head of Sony Worldwide Studios, he's got a lot of responsibility under his belt, but also a lot of knowledge (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/development-will-favour-ps3-in-2009-says-yoshida). He admits the first year of the PS3 was riddled with growing pains because developers built their games on the 360's architecture. This was the developers error, since releasing the game on the PS3 involved more effort than thought to take advantage of the multi-core processor -- leading to delays or sub-par ports.

This was also Sony's fault, he says, but now that good tools exist to assist developers and many have gotten their hands into the PS3, the trend may change soon. "Moving forward I'm totally confident that developers will start to use more from the PlayStation 3 platform. This year is the year of parity, next year is the year of differentiation in favour of the PS3 platform," he said. With the clear difference in power between PS3-based games like Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4, we hope more devs take his advice and start their projects on the PS3 in the coming years. It will prove easier in the long run, since moving PS3 titles to the 360 is supposed to be much simpler.

10 upcoming PS3 games that’ll turn you on (http://www.gameplayer.com.au/gp_documents/080617-Top-10-PS3.aspx?catid=Features&Page=4)

Little Big Planet
Sackboy, Sackgirl. Superstar DJ’s…here we GO!
Join the corduroy revolution in Little Big Planet, a fantastic four player cooperative platformer that has you controlling a personalized Sackboy or Sackgirl as you jump, move, and grab objects. The levels all have high manipulability and you can spend time individually, collaboratively, and/or competitively rearranging the place into whatever you want. Once you’ve managed to create your very own Thunderdome level (two sacks enter – one sack leaves) you can share it with other like minded people via PSN. Mark our words well, this will be sack-tastic.

Killzone 2
Gonna take you riiiding to the… killing zone
Enter the designated zone where the elite meet to get killed - for a second time. Hopes for this game have been sky high since that very controversial ‘actual gameplay’ trailer was shown off at E3 in 2005. Little is known about the game at this stage but Guerilla Games has stated that they want to create an immersive and cinematic gameplay experience that is grounded in reality with what they call "Hollywood Realism". The game will also feature a bold new first person cover system named "lean and peak" which lets you take cover behind an object, and then pop out to efficiently blast your Nazi — I mean… ‘Helghan’ tormentors.

Resistance 2
It’s pointless to resist, pathetic human
What’s better than one campaign mode? Two, according to Insomniac, because Resistance 2’s single player campaign will follow the story of Nathan Hale, plus there’s a separate co-operative campaign for you that has a storyline running parallel to Hale's campaign. The co-operative play will support up to 8 players online (or two players via split screen) with classes including a medic class, a heavy weapons class, and a special ops class. The online adversarial multiplayer aspect of the game will support a ludicrous 60 players online, too. Early communiqués indicate that the Chimera will be invading the US this time around – Uncle Sam ain’t gonna stand for that crap, surely.

Resident Evil 5
Welcome to deepest darkest Africa
There’s a scarcely known mathematical equation that we’d like to bring to your collective attention: Fast zombies > slow zombies. Not convinced? Wait until you see Resident Evil 5 prove the theorem for us, with freaky homicidal maniacs that make the infected folk from ‘28 Days Later’ look like girly girl scouts. The gameplay closely resembles the much celebrated ‘over the shoulder’ camera style of the last game, but apparently the game's environment will also play a much more significant role. Cop some prolonged exposure to heat and you’ll soon begin to see mirages and hallucinations - and something tells us these freaky visions won’t be happy little elves in gum drop houses running down lollipop lane. Though, that would be just as disturbing.

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Beware your crusty demon within
Your Nana’s arthritis has been playing up for a reason — there’s a storm a-comin’… a ‘Motor’ storm. Moving away from decidedly boring desert environments, Motorstorm 2 will occur in a lush tropical environment complete with thick mud, tangled undergrowth, swift flowing rivers, choking volcanic clouds and searing lava pools. There are other promises on the table too, like Monster trucks, better car and environment destruction, and — our personal favourite — four player split screen antics, which is a feature that more next-gen games need to include. We simply can’t wait to go mud plugging with this one (what? it’s a legitimate vehicle type).

Pure
It’s Pure, unadulterated fun.
Vying for your hard-earned, dirt-racing dollar is Pure, the forthcoming title from Black Rock Studio (formerly Climax Racing, the developers of the Moto GP and ATV Offroad Fury franchises). The game is best described as ATV’s meet SSX and, like it’s closest competitors, is all about drop dead gorgeous adrenalin based races where you accumulate boost to take advantage of a myriad of sneaky track shortcuts. Tricking is the order of the day here, and the only thing more impressive than nailing a 30 ft heel clicker is, well, getting nailed when attempting a 30 ft heel clicker. Keep and eye out for this bad boy.

PixelJunk Monsters Encore
The tower of power continues…
Sure, this isn’t a big budget extravaganza – but we don’t care. PixelJunk Monsters is the best/ most addictive thing since sliced heroin bread. For the uninitiated, gameplay involves stopping waves of enemies by placing defensive towers around your castle. Towers have distinct attributes, such as rapid fire, short distance, air defense, slowing abilities, etc. The only downside with the game is this: we need more of it, now. Sony has answered our prayers thankfully and the Encore expansion pack is on the way. It will include an additional 15 levels, including levels inspired by Pac-Man and Space Invaders. Also, the ice tower is now available without gems and the Tesla tower has been reduced in price. Awesome. Zappy.

Guitar Hero World Tour
Nobody rocks like… Springfield!
Red Octane is set to throw a meaty punch in the battle for the best music game with the fourth iteration of the popular Guitar Hero series. Taking some cues from its upstart rival Rockband, GHWT will also offer the full band peripheral setup with two guitars, microphone, and a three pad drum set that also has a kick and a cymbal. If that isn’t rocking enough, Activision has also announced plans to include a Music Studio mode that will let you forge your own rock and then swap it online with your mates. Early reports state that the drum peripheral won’t be as annoyingly loud as Rockband’s. That’s great news — but, will we be able to play some cowbell? Everything needs more cowbell.

Rock Band
Access to awesome… denied?
Speaking of awesome music games on the horizon; there’s Rock Band. However, for those of you about to rock, we awkwardly half salute you and hope that you’ve packed a lunch – because this patently amazing game has still yet to have a firm Australian release date. For those of you who have yet to import and experience it, Rock Band is a cooperative multiplayer powerhouse that supports a microphone, lead guitar, bass guitar, and a four pad drum set. The game has been out in the states since Christmas and has recently been released in the UK to critical acclaim. EA Australia, if you’re listening, we NEED this game, where’s the love?

Shiki-Tei
Two green thumbs up
Aside from building houses, starting fights at the pub, and opening a non twist-top beer with your eye socket – the next manliest activity in the world is gardening. Sony has realized this too and they’re tapping into your dormant Don Burke gene with their forthcoming downloadable gardening title Shiki-Tei. Are we making this game up, just to mess with you? Nope, it exists. You get a garden, you grow crap in said garden, and animals visit (and presumably defecate in) your garden. Sounds different, but we’re cautiously optimistic about the relaxation potential of this one. We also hope there is a ‘Greek backyard option’ – sweet, sweet concrete lions.

EA breaks silence on Godfather sequel

Posted on June 18th, 2008 at 04:38 EDT
Electronic Arts’ John Riccitiello has revealed the first tidbits of info regarding its forthcoming sequel to the 2006 movie tie-in, The Godfather.

Speaking at the William Blair & Company's investor meeting yesterday, Riccitiello confirmed that the title is currently in development at EA’s Redwood Shores studio, which is also in the process of working on the Survival Horror title, Dead Space.

Riccitiello commented: “It's a game that I think we'll be talking a lot about this fall," adding, “You can play this game both at the street level, much like a GTA-style game, but you can also play it top-down, almost like you're in an RTS, controlling the strategy of the boroughs so you can see what's going on..."

He also named The Godfather II’s executive producer as Hunter Smith, who previously worked on a number of James Bond titles with the publisher.

A sequel to the original game has always been on the cards, however, with EA commenting in 2006 of its intention "to make two or three" titles based on the popular movie franchise.

President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) David Reeves has said that the company expects the PlayStation 3 to eventually surpass lifetime sales of its predecessor, the PlayStation 2.
While the console may have gotten off to bumpy start, Reeves was keen to observe the current state in which the next-generation machine’s install base, commenting, "The PS3 install base is growing faster that the PS2's was at this point in its lifecycle."

"The next five years are going to be turbulent. But I think it is going to be the most exciting period that we have ever seen in the past ten years of video games," said Reeves.

Although Nintendo’s Wii is currently outselling the PS3, Reeves remained optimistic, adding, "We welcome all competition. Whatever happens, we are all going to do well. We should celebrate the growth of the industry.”

Next Metal Gear game to be a prequel?

Posted on June 20th, 2008 at 21:44

It looks like everyone's favorite linearly-confused tactical espionage franchise may get yet another out of date outing in the form of Metal Gear Solid 5. With Kojima supposedly finished working on Metal Gear Solid and MGS4 touted as Snake's "final mission," many assumed that the Metal Gear series would gracefully come to a close. Not so, a member of Kojima Productions hints.

Speaking with 1UP (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168338), assistant producer of MGS4 Ryan Payton purported that "there are some misunderstandings that this is the final Metal Gear game."

"But it's really the final chapter of the Solid Snake story," Payton continued. "That's all."

"I'm happy we could wrap up Snake's story in MGS4,because it gets to the point where if we continue on with Metal Gear Solid 5 with more Solid Snake adventures, we'll get to the point where the game has absolutely no basis in reality," he extrapolated. "I do like the idea that this character has had four or five big missions and then that's when it ended, rather than have 20 missions where there's no chance in hell a secret agent could ever survive. He's had four or five really big missions, and that seems a little more realistic to me."

So, could we see another Metal Gear Solid without Snake? Or even a Metal Gear game lacking "Solid" within the title? I personally like the sound of Metal Gear Liquid. For more on the next Metal Gear, stay tuned to PSU. Also, be on the lookout for our upcoming Metal Gear Online review soon.

Reeves: Disc-based delivery system will fall

Posted on June 22nd, 2008 at 13:42 EDT

We've heard rumblings within the industry regarding the future format of video games, but Sony has generally stayed true to the sentiment that Blu-ray is the (foreseeable) future -- until now. SCEE president David Reeves spoke up at a developer conference in London and asserted that the future lies in the PlayStation Network.

"The key to the future is the PlayStation Network. Games put straight onto PSN are the big opportunity," Reeves commented. "We do believe that the disc-based delivery system will fall as the power of the network base rises. At the same time, the overall industry growth will continue to go upwards as we push out into emerging markets. What we don’t see is an overall decline in the market. This is a golden era of video games."

While we tend to agree, it's not a matter of 'if' as much as 'when.' Blu-ray won't be disappearing during this generation, and it'll probably make a return (albeit a majorly enhanced one) for the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation Network has been a surprising success to say the least though, with over 40% of PS3 users downloading games directly to their hard drives, bypassing brick and mortal outlets. What do you think? When will we drop physical formats? Leave your comments below.

Silvia implies Firmware 2.4 is close

Posted on June 22nd, 2008 at 18:36 EDT
It's starting to feel like the calm before that perfect storm as PlayStation owners wait anxiously for that inevitable announcement of the Firmware 2.4 release date. For the past several months we've read the cries for in-game XMB and trophy support and so the wait is almost over.

In a recent comment made by a Sony representative, Noel Silvia has pretty much implied that Firmware 2.4 is a little bit closer than just around the corner.

"Eric’s working hard to get everything set for the launch of Firmware 2.40, including a video walkthrough.
I can’t comment on when (as I don’t know the exactly date!), but I’m just as excited as all of you for it.
Trophy Support + In-Game Messaging FTW!"

Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations, is the one he is referring to as he is synonymous with Firmware updates and presenting walkthrough videos featuring Grace Chen. This begs the question, exactly how close are we to the release date?

PSN Cards FINALLY Hitting Stores (http://kotaku.com/5018684/psn-cards-finally-hitting-stores)

http://kotaku.com/assets/images/kotaku/2008/06/psncard1.jpgNo announcement accompanying this, so I guess Sony are looking at soft-launching the things, but reader Terry sent us these pics of some PlayStation Network (http://kotaku.com/tag/playstation-network/) pre-paid cards available right now at his local Meijer store. Both $20 and $50 denominations are available, and Terry lets us know that (like the card says), unlike those for the 360 and Wii, the PSN cards (http://kotaku.com/tag/PSN-Cards/) are only activated once they've been run through the register. Sony online boss says PS3 is "perfect" for MMOs

Posted on June 23rd, 2008 at 06:56 EDT
President of Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) John Smedley has said that the PlayStation 3 represents the “perfect platform” for the development of Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs)

When asked on what he thought his company bought to Sony’s PlayStation division, Smedley told MCV (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/30940/PS3-is-perfect-platform-for-MMOs):

“Probably the biggest thing we can bring to the table is just the experience of having operated an online gaming service for many years. We’re happy to roll up our sleeves and offer assistance anywhere we are needed.”

“We love making online games and we think PS3 is the perfect platform for doing that,” added Smedley.

Smedley previously described MMO titles as a major selling point for Sony’s latest home console, also commenting on his belief that the genre is beginning to make the transition into mainstream gaming.

Seriously, we have no idea. This image just landed into our tips box with a short message stating that it is a leaked image of 2.40's trophy support. Whether that's true or not is up for discussion. The tipster calls himself "The Patriots," so there's a chance that this is just the beginning of a new S3 Project which will end with us being transformed into some kind of sneaky government super soldiers. Rumor: PSN trophy screenshot

Posted on June 24th, 2008 at 00:06 EDT
It seems as though last weeks announcement of the soon to be released firmware version 2.40 has sent the internet ablaze with speculation as to when it would be going live. From a recent posting on the PlayStation Blog, Eric Lempel revealed that the new firmware would provide in-game access to the PS3's "Xross Media Bar," PSN Trophies, and some new features that have yet to be announced.

Many have wondered what format these PSN Trophies would be presented in and it seems that the internet has found a way to leak out a screenshot of a PSN trophy card. Coming from an insider tip from a contributor known as "The Patriots" over at PS3Fanboy, this person revealed the first indications of what PS3 owners could possibly expect upon release of Firmware version 2.40.

The screenshot shows the user's avatar in the upper left hand corner of the Trophy Card with a breakdown of the user's trophy collection. The collection is broken down into four categories: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze, however details are a bit hazy on what merits each. The Trophy Card also seems to have 3 pages (the two pages featured below are unofficially labeled "gamercard" and "compare"), which appear to be able to be cycled through with the L1 and R1 buttons, but again, no formal indications are given to their specific functionality.

http://www.psu.com/media/articles/trophy1.jpg

The picture below shows that your Trophy Card will feature a trophy total and a "level." Another Sony insider, "Gassy Snake," explains that each trophy type will be worth a different number of points. He divulged that there is a certain number of each type of trophy available for a given game. In order to progress through levels, he claims you will need to gain a certain number of trophy points and as you increase in trophy levels, this number will increase as well thus increasing the level of difficulty to reach the status of elite (or possibly Platinum).

http://www.psu.com/media/articles/trophy2.jpg

"Gassy Snake" also reveals that the In-Game XMB will allow gamers to perform tasks such as background music playing, messaging and bluetooth headset pairing. Gassy claims that whenever a feature is not supported by the in-game version of the XMB, the PS3's interface will prompt you to exit out of the current game in order to access such feature(s). The In-Game XMB will be available to PS3 users by tapping the PlayStation button once on their controllers (holding the button down will bring up the menu PS3 owners have been used to pre-2.40)

As it stands, this is only a rumor, but could the potential PSN Maintenance scheduled for tommorrow be an indication that firmware version 2.40 is around the corner? Sony's Noel Silvia has already indicated that Firmware version 2.40 is in its final stages before release, leaving most PS3 owners anxiously waiting for the moment this new firmware goes live. Check back with PSU to get the latest updates on the 2.40 "madness."

EA's and DICE's whistles are well and truly wet, right? No. No, no, not even close. Speaking at GDC paris yesterday, DICE's Ben Cousens has said that the company are working on a further three Battlefield titles. One is a "core game" for consoles. One is a secret. The other is a collaboration with Korean company Neowiz, targeted at the region's online market. That's, you know. Five Battlefield games in development. Never let it be said EA don't know how to make the most of a franchise.

Square Enix to release PS1 classics, begins with Xenogears (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/06/25/square-enix-to-release-ps1-classics-begins-with-xenogears/)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.ps3fanboy.com/media/2008/06/xenogears_box_art_001.jpg

According to a NeoGAF (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=318089) posting, this month's Dengeki PlayStation reveals the very first PS1 games Square Enix will revive on the Japanese PSN. The titles will be available for 600 yen each, and will begin releasing in Japan today. There are twelve titles planned, starting with Xenogears. However, there are a number of other titles to be released today, such as Einhander, Astronoka, Rakugaki Showtime, Raystorm and Fighters Impact. While none of these titles feature the words "Final" or "Fantasy" in them, many are considered classics of the PS1 era. Titles like Xenogears can be pretty rare, so these re-releases are of great convenience to those that missed them at first. At only 600 yen each, this is an incredible bargain, especially when one considers the ability to play these downloadables on both the PS3 and on the go with the PSP.

Unfortunately, SCEA and Square Enix USA haven't announced any similar plans to release English language versions of these classics. We hope that they follow suit soon.

Exclusive: Firmware 2.4's XMB features revealed

Wednesday 25-Jun-2008 12:00 PM View, send, receive messages, manage downloads and play music in-game. It's all here...

CVG has managed to get its grubby hands on the final list of features for the hotly anticipated Firmware 2.4 update, which was yesterday rumoured (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=191533) to be due early next week. But that's not the case we've been told...

Speaking under strict conditions of anonymity, a source has told CVG that Firmware 2.4 is expected to launch in around three weeks' time. A quick look at the diary reveals that E3 is just under three weeks away. It doesn't take a genius to see that Sony's pre-E3 conference would be the perfect time to launch the Sony XMB assault.

Announcing something and making it available at the same time is the way forward, as Microsoft proved by revealing Doom isn't just coming to Xbox Live Arcade, it's on Xbox Live Arcade a few E3s ago. Apple is known for this approach too.

We've also scooped the following list of XMB features that you'll be able to access in-game. Here goes:

Friend category
View, send, receive messages
Manage downloads
Set the vibration feature of the controller
Sign in to PlayStation Network
Register friends
Manage Bluetooth devices
Terminate the game
Music category
Use the system BGM
Work the system BGM operation panel
Settings category
Assign controllers
View profiles
Game category
Set audio devices
Use the voice changer

As previously reported the update will also allow you to play back your own tunes in-game from the XMB Music column. It's unclear whether this feature will be compatible with all games or just new titles created with more recent development tools.
The system BGM will offer functions such as Play, Stop, Previous track, Next track, Change repeat mode, Change shuffle mode, Change volume (five levels). When you stop the playback of your tunes, playback of the game music will then begin.
Sony has yet to confirm or deny any of this and won't comment on rumour and speculation. If you ask us though, this is bang on the money. Not long to wait and see...http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=191641

Free Middleware to Cut PS3 Load Times Offered to Developers (http://scrawlfx.com/2008/06/free-middleware-to-cut-ps3-load-times-offered-to-developers)

CRI Middleware Co. has announced today that their middleware "File Majik Pro for PlayStation 3" will be offered to PLAYSTATION 3 develoopers for free starting June 2008 and lasting until March 2010.
What File Majik Pro does is utilizes CRI Middleware's own data compression and expansion algorithms, and optimizes the file arrangement of the game data to cut down the load time for games to less than half of it's original load time.
The simple formula is Load Time = Read Time + Seek Time. This middlware cuts down the Read Time by the compressed data and the ability to unzippigng them along side with the read time simultaneously; by re-arranging the data on disk in the order which they are needed will cut down the Seek Time. Developers will also be able to fit even more on the Blu-Ray due to the data compression.
It cuts down the PLAYSTATION 3's average 22 second load time to 9 seconds by reading 200MB off the Blu-Ray.

What we know: Last year, Sony officially said (http://kotaku.com/gaming/breaking/god-of-war-ii-director-leaving-scea-gow-iii-mentioned-%5Bupdate%5D-319725.php) God of War III (http://kotaku.com/tag/god-of-war-iii/) was for the PS3. Back in February of this year, a Sony teaser ad (http://kotaku.com/362534/sony-says-god-of-war-coming-soon-to-playstation-3) said God of War III was "coming soon." A job announcement (http://kotaku.com/385486/god-of-war-iii-to-feature-online-play) popped up in April was seeking an online game programmer for the team that created God of War and God of War II. According to a post on game site Eurogamer, Sony will be announcing God of War III for the PS3 at E3. This s unconfirmed, but makes sense! Surely, Sony will want a big AAA exclusive to face off with Gears of War 2 this holiday season. But just because something makes sense doesn't mean it's true.

Assassin's Creed (http://kotaku.com/tag/assassin.s-creed/) had a lot of hype. Assassin's Creed 2 (http://kotaku.com/tag/assassin.s-creed-2/) will have more. Just listen to Ubisoft US boss Laurent Detoc go on about the inevitable sequel:

We just did Assassin's and are sitting on top of the world, but we have to come back to reality very quickly because you're only as good as your last product... Don't drink the Kool-Aid too much; we're going have to defend our position... When we bring it [Assassin's Creed] back, there will be more anticipation for it.
Not only hype, but also look forward to Ubisoft explain how the game play is no longer repetitive and dull. We eagerly anticipate that.

First Shots Of PS3 Video Download Service, Due In "Summer 2008" (http://kotaku.com/5019807/first-shots-of-ps3-video-download-service-due-in-summer-2008)

http://kotaku.com/assets/images/kotaku/2008/06/psvideo.jpgSony held a little mid-term corporate strategy meeting today in Japan. On the menu? All kinds of Sony stuff, but of particular interest to us, all kinds of PlayStation-related stuff. First up? These shots of the PS3's upcoming video download service, which formed part of a presentation by Kaz Hirai. As you can see, it's largely identical to the current PlayStation Store (http://kotaku.com/tag/playstation-store/) interface, though it's nice seeing the whole thing move out of the "will be here sometime (http://kotaku.com/gaming/notag/ps3-movie-tv-download-service-coming-but-not-anytime-soon-299791.php)" stage and into what's surely the "will be here soon" stage. But how soon?
http://kotaku.com/assets/images/kotaku/2008/06/vidservice.jpgPart of Sony boss Howard Stringer's presentation touches on the company's "video service rollout strategy", whereby they're looking at getting video download services running on not just the PS3, but the PSP, laptops, phones and beyond. That presentation has, as you can see, the PS3 and PSP tentatively scheduled to see the service in "Summer 2008". Expect more info at E3.

• Accelerating cost down efforts
» Chip shrink
» Reducing the number of components
• Strengthening the management
» Organizational Review
» Further reductions in SGA [Eds Note: Sales, General and Administration]
• Introducing more new and exciting titles
Sounds like there will be some belt-tightening over at Sony Computer Entertainment. Hit the jump for the rest of the plan:

• Enriching non-game content and services
• Enhancing PlayStation Network
• Expanding the market by further increasing the hardware installed base
Achieve Profitability in FY08

Sony Details New Video System

June 26, 2008 - Sony held a group business briefing in Tokyo today to share its plans for 2008 to 2010. Taking up a good chunk of that time was Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai, who introduced new non-game initiatives for the PlayStation brand.

The company's long awaited video on demand service will target PlayStation 3 and PSP, adding movies and television programs to the PlayStation Network on top of the current game content. Videos will be sold through a video store on the network and will be viewable both in download and streaming form.

America will get the first shot at the video service this summer. The program will then continue on to Japan and Europe.

While further details will be announced at E3 next month, sample images of the video store shown at the press conference resembled the current PlayStation Store, right down to windowed video previews of content. The sample store image had buttons allowing the user to toggle between video store and game store, suggesting that PS3 users will have to access just one main shop interface to get all their downloadable content.

Categories of video content in the sample images included "New Arrivals," "Movies," "Television," "Anime," "HD Only," "Rentals," "Purchase", and "Top Downloads." The sample images also listed pricing for a couple of titles: a Ghost Rider rental in HD at $5.99 and a Ghost Rider purchase copy in SD at $12.99. These prices are presumably unofficial.

PlayStation products are just the start for Sony's video plans. By 2010, Sony plans on expanding the download service to televisions, PCs, and mobile sets.

In addition to the new video service, Sony also unveiled a brand new initiative: Life with PlayStation. This new program will offer real time news updates and weather to PlayStation 3 users via an interactive globe interface. The globe interface displays recreations of the weather and shows headlines as you move to different locals. The headlines can be clicked on to open up more details in a browser window. Users can play music off their PS3 in the background as they use this service.

Future plans for the Life with PlayStation service could go beyond just the globe. Hirai mentioned the possibility of introducing a timeline interface for letting PS3 owners sort and view their photographs chronologically.

Sony also addressed the PlayStation Portable's multimedia functionality today. Sony will be expanding the portable's network functionality, and will at long last offer direct connection to the PlayStation Store some time this fiscal year.

PS3 Graphics Chip Goes 65nm this Fall (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=11116&Itemid=2)

Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai has confirmed that PS3 Cell processors manufactured since last holiday use the more efficient 65nm technology, while smaller RSX chips are due in the fall.

Hirai said during a Thursday PlayStation business briefing that Sony has been cutting PS3 manufacturing costs by reducing the number of components and decreasing the size of chips.

"The Cell and RSX used in PS3s at launch were manufactured using a 90nm process technology. And now all PS3 Cells have shifted to 65nm process technology since last holiday season," he said.

The smaller chip technology runs more efficiently and costs less to produce.

While the improved Cell is in circulation, the RSX graphics chip, created in tandem with Nvidia, still uses 90nm technology.

But a more efficient RSX will be in PS3s shortly, Hirai says. "As for RSX, 65nm process technology has begun this year already, and will be ready for installment in autumn."

Hirai: "True generation" quality only available on PS3

Posted on June 27th, 2008 at 05:32 EDT
Sony Computer Entertainment President Kazuo Hirai has stated that the PlayStation 3 is the only system capable of delivering a “true generation” quality gaming experience.

Speaking during the company’s Business Review in Tokyo yesterday, Hirai commented, “As PlayStation 3 approaches the second anniversary of its release, the release of PS3 software titles with the true generation quality only available on PS3 is accelerating.”

Hirai attributed the machine’s difficult start to the fact Sony originally marketed the console as a multimedia device, noting that things have picked up since it repositioned the PS3 as a videogames console.

"However, by refocusing the positioning of PS3 first and foremost as a gaming platform, we were able to bring an attractive title lineup and achieve a sufficient number of PS3 sales as expected in the fiscal year 2007 holiday season," he added.

No plans for PS2 downloadable games on PS3, says Sony

Posted on July 1st, 2008 at 04:20 EDT

Sony has denied reports claiming that the platform holder will be introducing downloadable PlayStation 2 games via the PlayStation Network at the E3 Media and Business Summit later this month.

The company was responding to a screenshot (http://www.gamepro.com/sony/ps3/games/news/images/196124-1-1.jpg) posted by an anonymous user on website N4G, which appeared to show the presence of PS2 games available for purchase on the PlayStation Store.

According to the post, the image was received directly from a source at Sony Europe, with further details scheduled to appear E3 in mid-July.

However, speaking to GamePro (http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=196124), Sony’s Patrick Seybold commented, "I'm not sure where the image came from,” adding, "At this point, we haven't made any announcements, and there are no plans for PS2 downloadable titles on PS3."

HEARTLESS thieves have stolen the only enjoyment disabled teenager Zak Touilii has in his life - his PlayStation.

Born with the life-threatening illness duchenne muscular dystrophy, Zak, 14, has been confined to a wheelchair most of his life. His only enjoyment has been playing videogames with his mates, until thieves broke into his Wollongong home last week.

"Why did they have to do that?" he told The Daily Telegraph yesterday.

The new PlayStation 3 and games were given to him by the Make a Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to terminally ill children.

Yesterday, the foundation condemned the actions of the thieves, who also took jewellery and appliances.

Zak's mother Joanne Smith said she had never seen her son so devastated.

"He came flying out the front door and was just hysterical saying, 'Mum, they took my PlayStation'," she said.

"I wish those rotten bastards could have seen my son's face."

Zak's condition is an aggressive form of muscular dystrophy characterised by rapid degeneration of the muscles, eventually leading to paralysis and death.

Όχι.

Νέο firmware update για το PS3

Despite the fact the last few Sony F1 games were fairly forgettable, some people are worried now that Codemasters hold the Formula 1 (http://kotaku.com/tag/formula-1/) license. Worried they'll make a forgettable game. Worried that, being Codemasters - the team behind Grid and Dirt - their F1 game will be some kind of arcade racer. Well it won't! Responding to such fears on the official boards, the official response from Codies is:

GRID and DiRT are aimed at an arcade audience and they do that very well. F1 has different requirements and will get a completely different treatment from our in-house team, including full on sim options, physics, rules and regs etc. We will also have arcade requirements catered for as well. How this will be split we do not know yet, but split it will be.
No word on whether they'll also include team spying (http://jalopnik.com/cars/racing-news/mclaren-to-fia-our-bad-334016.php) and nazi sex dungeons (http://jalopnik.com/373884/f1-boss-max-mosley-caught-with-five-hookers-in-nazi-orgy-video-scandal), but we can only hope.

Rumor: PS3 to get In-Game Video Chat

50 (http://www.n4g.com/ps3/NewsCom-167960.aspx?CT=1#Comments)
http://m2.n4g.com/8/News/167000/167960_2_hs.png One of the requested features to come with In-Game XMB has been Voice Chat. However when 2.40 arrived, many people were disappointed to hear that it wont be featured with the update. Sony will deliver this addition sometime this year, however they also hope to go one step better: In-Game Video Chat. And we're not just talking about video chatting while you have the game paused.

According to an inside source, In-Game Video Chat will enable you to video chat with a friend while actually playing your game. It will work like BD-Live where there will be a PiP window in the top right corner of the screen so you can see your friends while you play. Its unclear when exactly this will arrive but it should come via a firmware update by the end of this year.an einai alithia den leo tipota alo peri live kai paparies(pu idi to psn einai pio kalo kai ameso)

The 360's all but assured (http://kotaku.com/5022926/gamestops-leaked-xbox-360-price-drop-info) of being a cheaper console come Monday. And when Monday comes - with the Pro model tipped to drop to $299 - it'll be a full $100 cheaper than the PS3. So, will Sony get with the program, and cut their prices too? Nope! Sony's Chief Financial Officer Nobuyuki Oneda (pictured, glimpsing the future) has said that "Our strategy is not to sell more quantity for PS3 but to concentrate on profitability...Our plan is not to reduce the price". Note he's not saying they don't want to sell more PS3s; he's just saying they're happy with the rate they're already selling at, and are more concerned with making the PS3 cheaper to manufacture. Just so, you know. You know.
