Record-breaking 165,000 PS3s sold at UK launch
New format becomes fastest-selling home console ever over its debut weekend.
ChartTrack has confirmed that 165,000 PS3 units were sold during the console's launch weekend.
The figure is three quarters of the total 220,000 UK launch stock for day one, and makes PS3 second only to PSP in the overall launch weekend sales stakes. The Sony handheld shifted 185,000 in its opening weekend back in September 2005.
PS3s record-breaking debut for a home console comfortably beats the previous top seller Nintendo Wii, which sold 105,000 after its frantic launch weekend in December last year. Fellow format rival Xbox 360 racked up an estimated 70,000 at launch in December 2005.
The figure also means that Sony has not sold all of its opening weekend stock, something the platform holder claims is part of its overall strategy at retail
PlayStation breaks sales records
The PlayStation 3 console has broken UK sales records with more than 165,000 machines sold in the first two days of release, say analysts Chart Track.
More than a million consoles were shipped across Europe on launch day last week with 600,000 sold.
Sony is hoping to retake its title as the console market leader, as Microsoft and Nintendo head the next-gen race.
Meanwhile, games firm Namco Bandai has said it is to use the PS3's Cell chip in arcade machines.
Microsoft sold 71,000 Xbox 360 consoles during its UK launch weekend, while Nintendo sold 105,000 Wii machines.
But both companies offered limited stock to retailers, which led to shortages.
Ray Maguire, managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment UK said the figures were a vote of confidence in the machine.
"Having broken the record for launch sales, we are now replenishing retail stock across the country," he said,
The first arcade title to use the PS3 microprocessor will be fighting game Tekken 6, Namco said.
While PlayStation technology has been used in arcade machines in the past it is believed to be the first time that the Cell will be used for games not running on Sony's console.
Namco Bandai has sold its PlayStation 2 arcade technology to other firms, but it is still undecided about whether to sell its PS3 Cell-based technology, a spokeswoman for the firm said.

Sony said on Wednesday that it aims to ship 11m PlayStation 3s worldwide this year, ramping up competition against its rivals after missing its recent targets.
Sony shipped 5.5m PS3 consoles in the year to March, below its target for 6m due to production problems with its high-definition DVD player that gave rivals Nintendo and Microsoft an early lead in the console war.
Sony said it expects losses in its game division to narrow this year after swallowing the huge start-up costs of the console

June 8, 2007 - Enterbrain (publisher of Famitsu) released its monthly sales data for May 2007 today, and the Nintendo fever that has struck Japan shows no signs of abating any time soon. Famitsu reported that the overall gaming market continued its forward momentum for the month, increasing more than 10% over the same period last year.
Hardware-wise the big winner was unsurprisingly the DS Lite, which topped 600,000 units sold for the month. These sales accounted for almost 56% of hardware sales for the month. This puts the life-to-date sales for the handheld at 17,152,000 units (this number includes the DS Phat). Meanwhile, Sony's PSP had a strong month as well, topping 120,000 units sold in May.

On the console side of things, the top seller was the Wii, which sold through more than 250,000 units. The Wii was followed by the PS2 at just over 53,000 and the PS3 with around 45,000 units. Rounding out the sales data was the Xbox 360 at 11,000 units and the GBA SP at a little over 2,000 units. According to this data, Nintendo platforms accounted for more than 78 percent of the total hardware sales for the month of May.
In software news, the newly released PS1 remake, Final Fantasy Tactics: Shishi Senso for the PSP, topped sales charts for May. Following shortly behind was another handheld Square Enix tactical RPG, Final Fantasy XII: Revanant Wings for the DS. After these two handheld games was Super Paper Mario for the Wii. Rounding out the rest of the top five were Wii Sports and Momotarou Dentetsu DS: Tokyo & Japan.

Sony on European Progress: 1 million sold in 9 & half weeks
David Reeves, President and CEO, SCEE reports:
"I’m happy to say that early last week we broke through the one million sell-through mark on PS3. That was sell-through across all PAL territories – and we achieved that in nine and a half weeks. That’s faster than both PS2 and PSone."
"And I think the anlysts out there will realise it’s faster than our brothers and sisters in the competitive world as well.
In terms of breakdown by Euro territories, the UK did very well. They are probably up to 25 per cent of business, so have made a great star. And we’re particularly pleased with Iberia and France. They are neck and neck.
Also this time we launched into our distributor territories, such as the Middle East and Eastern Europe. And that’s give us quite a boost. Russia too. And we’ve found it’s given us quite a boost in those markets, not only on hardware but software as well. The Middle East and Russia are quite a lucrative markets, with a lot of wealthy people there.
We’ve launched into about 100 territories. If include places like San Marino and the Vatican, we’ve got about 107 territories on board in total – that means we’re about 95 per cent of the way there. And we’ve done that in ten weeks.
In terms of software, we’ve sold in about two million pieces of first party software. And the big ones are Resistance: Fall of Man at about 600,000 units and Motorstorm at just over the 500,000 mark. We’re obviously very happy that thse two new IPs have done so well.
I can confirm that it’s highly unlikely that the 20Gb version will be launch in PAL territories. The majority of retailers are happy that we launched with just the one unit. It has made things simple for them.
As for the 80Gb console, there are markets like Korea where there’s very high broadband penetration and the people there are used to downloading content, so they require a certain size hard drive. But at the moment we don’t see a requirement for launching this version in Europe. Certainly not in the foreseeable future.
In terms of registered PlayStation Network users, we’re at around the 460,000 mark, which we’re very happy about. We have about about 100 pieces of content online in PAL territores. And we’ve achieved that in 10 weeks.
I don’t feel competing with Xbox Live; we feel we’re in a different stadium. And with the introduction of Home at Christmas, we’re going in a completely different direction with something very entertaining.
We don’t have our eyes on the competition in any way."

Sales for Nintendo Co.'s Wii and Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 decreased, while movement for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 increased in the latest sales data from Ebay.
In the latest sales data at the auction website, Wii held a sharp 16 percent decrease in sales, down from zero percent increase the week prior. While sales fell, the console remained the No. 1 Most Popular home console status on Ebay. It carries an average sale price of $418.22.
The Xbox 360 experienced a two percent decrease in sales, down from a 20 percent increase one week ago. The console is the No. 2 Most Popular video game hardware on Ebay and carries an average sale price of $346.84.
The PS3 experienced the largest sales gain in the period at 13 percent, up from an increase of four percent one week prior. The hardware ranks as the third most popular console and held an average sale price of $587.07.
Wii is the No. 1-selling home console in the U.S., moving 338,000 units in the month of May.
The Xbox 360 moved 155,000 units, followed by the PS3 at 82,000 units in the same period.

The Aussies (my wife excluded, but she hates all of the consoles) apparently love the Playstation 3. GameSpot Australia reports that according to Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (the other SCEA), the PS3 (http://kotaku.com/gaming/ps3/) is the number one console in the country, outselling both the Xbox 360 (http://kotaku.com/gaming/xbox-360/) and Wii (http://kotaku.com/gaming/wii/) nearly every week since its launch. SCEAus's managing director Michael Ephraim told GS that the Playstation 3 has sold more than 50,000 units since its launch in the end of March, while the Wii has sold 100,000 units since its launch in early December and according to data trackers GfK, the PS3 has been the number one selling next-gen console everyone week since it's lauch... with the exception of last week.
"Since March 23, PS3 has been the number one-selling next-gen console in Australia, and this is GfK figures. We've now sold 50,000--and we're very excited about the fact that it's being sold in retailers that are gaming retailers as a gaming device and other things, but as you'll notice it's now being sold in Harvey Norman consumer electronic stores as a Blu-ray player."

Είδηση που σίγουρα δείχνει ότι όσοι βιάζονται να βγάλουν συμπεράσματα για το PS3 από τους λίγους μήνες της κυκλοφορίας του μάλλον καλά θα κάνουν να αφήσουν τις προβλέψεις και να ασχοληθούν με κάτι πιο σίγουρο μιας και το Playstation είναι εδώ και μπορεί και θα φέρει τα πάνω κάτω στο χώρο για ακόμη μια φορά παρά το αρνητικό κλίμα που θέλουν να προβάλλουν τα media.

To έδειξε με τα fw updates και το δείχνει και με την μείωση της τιμής σήμερα.
Ειλικρινά δεν με νοιάζει καθόλου αν αγόρασα το PS3 ακριβότερα 100$ ή 100 ευρώ γιατί το πήρα την μέρα που κυκλοφόρησε στην Ευρώπη και πιστεύω ακόμη και τώρα και θα συνεχίσω να το πιστεύω ότι το value/price ακόμα και στα 600 ευρώ είναι πολύ υψηλό. Μπορεί να είναι 600 ευρώ (και για πολλούς στην Ελλάδα αυτός είναι ένας ολόκληρος μισθός) αλλά παίρνεις ένα μηχάνημα που θα σε βγάλει από πολλά επιπλέον έξοδα στο άμεσο μέλλον.

Along with the Playstation 3 jumping 2,700% in sales on Amazon.com, the fragFX controller for the system has amazingly jumped 30,053% to the number 1 spot - does this fact have any correlation to the PS3 system sales increase, or actually pinpoint that the jump in PS3 hardware sales is not so impressive after all?
Other PS3 items have jumped also, including MLB The Show, SIXAXIS controller, Fight Night Round 3 and Resistance: Fall of Man. Also on the increase is an intercooler for the Xbox360, coming in at number 10.

Είναι ενδιαφέρον άλλα όχι τρομερά αξιόπιστο για να βγάλουμε ένα γενικό συμπέρασμα! Μαζί με όλα αυτά που πήραμε τις τελευταίες 2 μέρες από το amazon ίσως να έχει την αξία του. Όλα αυτά θα τα δούμε σίγουρα σε επίσημα νούμερα στις πωλήσεις του PS3 λίγο αργότερα... Προς το παρόν ρίξτε μια ματιά στο thread να πάρετε μια γεύση από το τι λένε τα παιδιά εκεί...

Καλα κανει το παιδι, ειμαι μαζι σου. Ετσι να χεις ενα ps3 στο σαλονι, ενα στην τουαλετα και αργοτερα ενα στην κουζινα κλπ. Οπως ειπε και ο Harrison στην Ε3 07. Να ειναι ελαχιστες οι στιγμες μακρια απο το playstation 3!!

Price drop produces 135% jump in sales
Sure, it's only been a couple weeks, but according to SCEA the PlayStation 3 has already benefited greatly from the new $499 price. The company said that sales jumped 135% at the top five retailers. And even before the price cut, PS3 sales were up 21 percent in June.
"Preliminary internal data" from Sony shows that PS3 sales have increased by more than 135% at the company's top five retailers since the $100 price cut was announced two weeks ago. $100 is a significant savings -- but we wonder how many of these purchasers rushed to pick up a 60GB system because they're no longer in production. During the same time period, software sales increased 15% and peripherals by 60%.
Recently released NPD figures show that PS3 was gaining momentum even before E3's price drop. In June, sales of the console increased 21% over May's figures, with 98,469 units sold at retail. (However, that still doesn't compete with the massive sales of the hugely successful PS2, with 270,763 consoles sold for the month.)
In a press release, Jack Tretton, president and CEO of SCEA commented: "The new price on the 60 GB PS3, coupled with our very strong software showing from E3, is certainly paying dividends in terms of impressive sales across the board at retail."

On the heels of a strong showing at E3, today Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced retail growth for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) in July. Based on preliminary internal data, PS3 sales have increased by more than 135% at the company's top five retailers since the new $499 price was announced two weeks ago on July 9th. During this same two-week period, total PlayStation hardware sales have increased by 161%, software by 15% and peripherals by 60%.
Also, according to NPD sales data released today for the month of June, PlayStation sales increased prior to E3, as well. Overall, the PlayStation brand continued to exhibit solid growth evidenced by a 21% increase in total retail dollars generated year-over-year in North America with total sales of $393 million. PS3 sales were up 21% over May's figures, with 98,469 units sold at retail. Furthermore, PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) witnessed an impressive increase, up 31% year-over-year, selling 290,108 units at retail, while PlayStation® 2 (PS2) once again remained one of the best-selling consoles on the market, with unit sales of 270,763 for the month.
"The new price on the 60 GB PS3, coupled with our very strong software showing from E3, is certainly paying dividends in terms of impressive sales across the board at retail," said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. "This jump in sales bodes very well for us heading into the fall as we launch an impressive arsenal of hardware and software, leading off with the new 80 GB PS3 in August along with the unveiling of highly anticipated games such as Lair and Warhawk. Oι πωλήσεις του Ιουνίου αν δεν κάνω λάθος είχαν αύξηση 21% πριν από την ανακοίνωση της SCEA για μείωση της τιμής. Ακόμα δεν φαίνεται τίποτα στις πωλήσεις από την μείωση και το PS3 είναι πίσω και από το 360 και το Wii. Είμαι περίεργος να δω τα νούμερα του Ιουλίου.

During Sony's recent financial statement (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/07/26/ps3-hardware-only-factor-holding-sony-profits-back/), they announced that they've sold almost 4.5 million (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/26-07-2007-6094.html) PlayStation 3s worldwide. Something to note is that they've changed their policy of stating how many systems shipped and are now actually abiding by the industry standard of saying how many systems have actually sold. This helps provide a clearer view of the PS3's success and is a much appreciated change from their past financial statements.
Onto the numbers themselves, the 4.5 million sell-through is nothing to be scoffed at and shows that they are keeping pace with the overall number of 360s sold during the same post-launch time frame. Unfortunately, the numbers aren't great -- especially when you consider that only 700,000 PS3s sold during the entire first quarter of the year, a huge decrease from the initial sell-rate. Of course, the decrease in sales makes sense considering there were almost NO GAMES RELEASED during that time frame. Funny how people don't buy consoles when there is nothing worth playing on it.
Regardless, Sony feels that the one-two punch of the PS3 price-cut combined with a plethora of high-profile titles coming out in the coming months will help propel sales (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/07/23/price-drop-produces-135-jump-in-sales/) of the system. Their goal is to have another 10 million PS3s sold by March 08, which would put it about 50% above where the 360 was at the same time (~15 million units sold vs ~10 million). While this is an optimistic goal, we can't help but feel some of their excitement. Games like Heavenly Sword (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/07/26/american-psn-store-updates-for-july-26th/), Lair and MGS 4 (just to name a few) have been making gamers salivate like Pavlov's puppies and the sales spike post-price cut shows that people really want a PS3, they just don't want to sell a kidney to get one.

PS3 Sales Double in Japan
While the DS Lite continues to be the top selling platform, holding steady around the 150,000 units sold mark for a second consecutive week, the PlayStation 3 is the big winner in the latest hardware charts. Sales of Sony's next generation console reached almost 30,000 units, leaving its predecessor in the shade.
Having exceeded the 100,000 units sold mark two weeks ago, Wii sales continue to fall, while sales of Sony's PSP and Microsoft's Xbox 360 are up marginally.

Αδικα ελπιζεις. Η Ιαπωνια ανηκει στην Ninty.
Δεν εχουμε ουτε ενα χρονο συμπληρωμενο απο την κυκλοφορια των 2 κονσολων(Ps3-Wii) στην Ιαπωνια,οποτε δεν μπορουμε να ξερουμε ακομα αν η αγορα αυτη ανηκει στην Nintendo.Εκτος αν βαζουμε και το ds μεσα.
Σαφως και εχει το προβαδισμα και οι προβλεψεις λογικο να ειναι υπερ της αλλα ως εκει.

PS3 11k behind Xbox 360 in US Sales Charts from VGchartz
The week ending August 11, 2007 saw two significant events in the Americas. Starting August 8, the Xbox 360 price (http://www.n4g.com/industrynews/News-59347.aspx#) drop went into effect for all three Xbox360 (http://www.n4g.com/industrynews/News-59347.aspx#) SKUs. Additionally, Sony’s new $600 PS3 – with extra storage and Motorstorm – began to become widely available at retail. That said - Xbox 360 sales were above PS3 sales this week since the 60 gig PS3 dropped to $500. Wii, DS, PSP, and PS2 continue selling well this week too – largely in their usual ranges.
-Although Boogie bombed, it was enough to push EA past Activision this week. Both trailed Nintendo though in weekly software sales.
-Software notes: Guitar Hero II has returned to being the top selling Xbox 360 title. Wii Play has overtaken Twilight Princess as Wii’s best selling title in the Americas.
-Motorstorm games sold with the new SKU are included in the software total. That means the new SKU sold fewer than 10,000 units this week. It is not likely to be widely available until next week.
-Pokemon Diamond/Pearl will hit 3.5 million units in the Americas next week.

August U.S. sales data in - Wii Kicks a**, Xbox 360 outsells PS3 by over 2:1!

The NPD group has released the sales data for the month of August in the U.S. Leading the way is the Nintendo Wii having sold 403.6k units, closely followed by the DS with 383.k units. Then the Xbox 360 entered things with 276.k units sold, the Playstation 2 with 202k units sold, the PSP with 151.2k and the Playstation 3 came last with 130.6k units sold. The recent price cut of the Xbox 360 and the release of Bioshock greatly helped the system to such sales, while the PS3 sales figures are slightly disappointing following suggestions that their price cuts were helping it gain on the 360. However, all is not lost for Sony, the PS2 and PS3 combined sold over 330k which is certainly good news for them. All in all, everyone did pretty well especially considering this is usually a 'slow' time for the industry.

Wii hardware sales hit an all time low in Japan, outsells PS3 by just 2:1

Media Create has unleashed the latest weekly hardware sales figures for Japan and they show that sales of the Wii hit an all time low of 29,088 weekly units, however there was an overall slump in the market. The DS sold the most units with 77,488 units, while the PSP sold sold 16,564, the PS2 13,360, the PS3 moved 13,248 units, the 360 1,286 units and the Game boy micro just 428 units.

oχι απο insider στο GAF λεει οτι η αποφαση δεν εχει καμια σχεση με καμια εταιρια, ειναι καθαρα αποφαση της NPD και μονο αυτης.
Το κακο ειναι οτι πλεον μαλλον θα καταφευγουμε στο οχι και τοσο αξιοπιστο VGchartz αλλα τι να κανουμε απο το ολοτελα....

Σκέψου ότι όλα στη λίστα εκτός από το πρώτο (και δύσκολο μετά το PSP να το πάρω) τα έχω. Δεν είναι δύσκολο. Οι αδερφές μου έχουν Wii και η μία έχει και PS2. Και βλεφαριάζουν και το PS3 αμφότερες.
H αντιδρασεις στην τελευταια αποφαση της NPD ηταν πολυ μεγαλες και ετσι υπαναχωρησε...

Price cut boosted PlayStation 3 sales to 100,000 unit last weeks

Παιδιά, μπορούμε να μάθουμε πουθενά και τα υπόλοιπα NPD νούμερα για άλλα παιχνίδια; Πήγα στο site της εταιρείας, αλλά δεν είδα πουθενά να έχει όλη τη λίστα.
Συγκεκριμένα για το Heavenly Sword θέλω να δω πώς πήγε και αν συνεχίζει να πουλάει ακόμα.

Η ΕΠΙΣΗΜΗ ημερομηνία κυκλοφορίας ήταν 19 Νοέμβρη και το report μιλάει για μέχρι τις 17 Νοέμβρη. Αλλά κάποια μαγαζιά το έβγαλαν πιο νωρίς.
Αν αναλογιστούμε ότι για τις λίγες αυτές ημέρες που βγήκε (και μάλιστα από λίγα μαγαζιά) κατάφερε και ξεπέρασε παιχνίδια που πουλιούνται κανονικά, τότε το παιχνίδι είναι γερός άσσος!
(Κρίμα για το Ratchet. Όταν βλέπεις από πάνω μούφες σαν το WWE και δεν ξέρω εγώ τι σε πιάνει μια κατάθλιψη!)

Το uncharted έχει κυκλοφορήσει στην Αμερική από τις 17! Λογικά γι αυτό υπάρχει εκεί και πιστεύω ότι θα πάει για μεγάλες πωλήσεις το παιχνίδι είναι κορυφή!
Επίσης για δεύτερη βδομάδα το ps3 ξεπερνάει σε πωλήσεις το Wii στην Ιαπωνία... Good sign! ;)

Η πηγή είναι το VGChartz το οποίο προβάλει τα νούμερα απ' όπου προκύψουν. Είτε από sold είτε από shipped, είτε από νούμερα NPD. Δεν είναι απολύτως αξιόπιστο, αλλά πάντοτε αποτελεί καλό δείχτη της γενικής "κίνησης" στην αγορά.
NonBorn, το παιχνίδι μπορεί να πουλιόταν από τις 17, αλλά η κανονική του και επίσημη ημερομηνία ήταν στις 19.

Και είναι σημαντικό αυτό γιατί βλέπεις τι μεγάλη πρόοδο έκανε το PS3 τη 2η χρόνια όταν μέσα σε αυτή κατάφερε να κάνει τις 971,402 από τις 1,428,960 πωλήσεις του.

PS3 sales increase 285% in the States
PlayStation 3 sales increased 285% in the States from October to November according to NPD Group sales data, which is the largest sales increase of any hardware platform.
Sony sold 466,000 PS3 consoles, 496,000 PS2 consoles, and 567,000 PSP handhelds in the US in November.
This follows Sony's price cut for the PS3 by $100 to $499 in October and the introduced of a $399 model last month which mirrored similar moves in the UK.
And, according to Sony, there are now more than 1.8 million registered PlayStation Network users in North America. These users have downloaded more than 34.5 million pieces of content.
US Sony chairman Sir Howard Stringer is bullish about the recent PS3 success:
"I'm glad that the last few weeks have generated excitement about PlayStation 3. Everyone's stopped talking about it the way they were six months ago", he told The Guardian.
"I'm happy the Wii seems to be running a bit short of hardware, the PlayStation 3 will come into its own because its [high-end games] are infinitely more fun, demanding and exciting. The question people quite rightly asked was if the PS3 was going to get through this early cycle. I feel much more confident about that now."

It’s alive, after a long wait and some patience Sony was no doubt relieved to learn that for the first time the PS3 has managed to outsell the Wii, in Japan.
Sir Howard Stringer is moving his company into a recovery stage and that may have been the first step. Plans are in the works for the Playstation network which will have content for the PS3 itself and other Sony devices. He admitted to a degree that Sony is following in Apple’s footsteps.
Last month Sony sold 183,217 PS3 units while Nintendo sold “only” 159,193 Wiis.
Sony is also elated to learn that Nintendo is still having troubles meeting demands which is all the better for the PS3, perhaps some looking at a Wii will make the jump to the PS3.
He pretty much ended with saying that PS3 games are more fun, no doubt there as you can actually make out the environment you are in and what your objective/target is.
But, inexperienced gamers gravitate towards the Wii. Hiroshi Kamide of KBC Securities told The Guardian, “If you are the kind of person who plays once in a while, the bells and whistles that come with a PS3 don’t mean much. It is a more powerful version of its predecessor, but in terms of games there’s nothing really new.”
Obviously there is some catching up to do but maybe the shortage of Wiis combined with parents needing and/or wanting to put gifts under the tree may help Sony. If I were a teenager, I’d rather have a PS3 now than wait for a Wii, of course, I’d rather have the PS3 anyway but it should be clear what I was trying to say.

Sony says global sales of PS3 to top 11 million

TOKYO (AFP) — Worldwide sales of Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3 are expected to reach 11 million by the end of this fiscal year, a senior executive said in an interview published Saturday.
Sony Computer Entertainment's chief executive Kazuo Hirai told the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper he was confident of fulfilling that goal despite stiff competition from Nintendo's Wii and Microsoft's XBoX 360.
The PlayStation3 "is starting afresh as a console to play games with. Although pricing strategy is important, now we would like to put our strength in the number of software games," he said.
Sony cut the price of the PS3 by 10 percent in Japan to 39,980 yen (356 dollars) and launched a new slimmed-down version, ratcheting up the competition with its rivals ahead of the crucial year-end sales period.
A recent report said the PS3 video games console had outsold Nintendo's Wii in Japan in November.
The company has also announced that PS3 sales in North America more than tripled in the crucial Thanksgiving holiday week after a 100-dollar price cut.
Hirai told the Yomiuri he would like to see Sony's game division "escape as soon as possible from the red and return to the black in fiscal year 2008."

Simple 2000: The Japanese Hardware Chart
Given that this week's software sales charts from Media Create show Nintendo DS and Wii games outperforming everything that isn't Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, one might assume that Nintendo hardware would see the biggest boost in sales. Oh, sure, selling over 222,000 Nintendo DS Lites is no small feat. It's damn impressive. However, the week to week doubling of PSP sales, pushing over 180,000 of the things without a major software release is, well, its kind of hard to sort out. But more power to 'em, I say.

Εγώ δεν διαφωνώ. Αλλά δεν σημαίνει ότι επειδή πουλάει είναι και καλό.
Εγώ προσωπικά δεν θέλω χιλιές δυο πλαστικούρες μες στα πόδια μου για να παίξω ένα παιχνίδι και αν θέλει η Nintendo να κάνει πιο ζωντανή την εμπειρία με περιφερειακά για κάθε παιχνίδι (κι όχι ας πούμε με καλύτερα production values), ευχαριστώ αλλά δεν θα πάρω.

December was the last we heard of the lifetime sales of the next generation of consoles in France. We were given the figures 270,000 for the Playstation 3 and 500,000 for the Xbox 360. According to the French newspaper Les Echoes, the Playstation 3’s lifetime sales have since doubled.
Microsoft announced (http://kotaku.com/gaming/france/french-lifetime-hardware-sales-sacr-bleu-etc-331558.php) in December that they had sold 500,000 Xbox 360s in France since the console was released, and Jeux France (http://www.jeux-france.com/news23083_500000-xbox-360-vendues-en-france.html) filled in the gaps for the PS3 and Wii, placing them at 270,000 and 1,100,000 units sold respectively.
It is now been divulged that Jeux France’s estimate for PS3 sales were either inaccurate, or that the PS3 has sold more than the same amount in the holiday period.
According to Les Echoes, who reported Microsoft’s sales announcement, the PS3 has sold 563,000 units, compared to the Xbox 360’s 589,000 as of this month. Although the Xbox 360 leads in these numbers, Microsoft’s console was released over a year before Sony’s offering. These numbers are supposedly from the Gfk Institute, suggesting that Sony’s price drop considerably narrowed the gap during the holiday season.
It’s surprising that this could happen so soon, but with a statement from SCEE’s vice president George Fornay, this jump in sales is explained:
By selling, on average, three times more PS3 than Xbox 360 a week, it took precedence over MicrosoftAlways defiant, Microsoft responds with the fact that the Xbox 360 still leads in lifetime sales:
Sony is in catch-up mode, but we are still the market leader, according to our data, even in France.After the price drop, Europe has really taken to the Playstation 3, barring the UK, and with sales like they are in France, Les Echoes claims that the PS3 will double the Xbox 360’s sales in the coming weeks. I’m not so sure about that.
